I made some wicked dinners this weekend, as Minerva (my comp) was a sick little girl and need some backing up of her files. She needed me to stay home and keep her company.

Sat: (Tried for steak- no good cuts in the store, so I went for salmon.) Seared salmon marinated in soy sauce, garlic and mirin (sake), Steamed asparagus and Ginger Eggplant in miso sauce with toasted sesame seeds.

Sun: Fetticine with a light cream sauce, mushrooms, pine nuts and fresh tomatoes on top. Red wine. Chocolate covered raisins for dessert.

mmmmm

tonight is just some yakitori and rice- no time to cook during my dinner break of teaching.

I love cooking.

man.... I *totally* forgot to eat yesterday!!!
I was out on my walk, feeling a little weak, and then it hit me - all I'd had was coffee & a few bites of rice in the a.m....
So I had a bagel & neufchatel with sliced tomatoes at about 11 pm... yum.

But! The night before, I had a great dinner - broiled fresh albacore seasoned with adobo, with Spanish rice, fresh steamed broccoli, and Carribean black beans... tasty and nutritious. :D

I have a question. If y'all were planning a seduction dinner what would be on the menu? (no roadkill please) All i can think of is chocolate covered strawberries which really do not make a whole meal. and no oysters (don't eat bait)

noxxville
02-04-2003, 04:06 PM
Minus roadkill.....i really don't think it matters too much what's on the menu as long as the presentation is done right. That's where you make your money. The right setting, the right lighting, the right arrangement of food with the proper compliments for drinks and desserts. It's all about the presentation.

yes please, what's up with the secretary?

bealeblues
02-04-2003, 04:34 PM
i'll take the queries in order:

1. avatar is another creation of queen chicken.. she is creating an appropriate holiday theme for each holiday.... one can only imagine what she'll do for easter.... (i won't even go near that)

2. my secretary will be dying a slow, painful death tomorrow. i had 2 things to be filed, via fax, with a court. only one got filed. i specifically said to file both. she shoo'ed me away, saying it would get done and said that i didn't have to hover over her b/c she would do it. well guess what. it didnt get filed. things were too nice and cozy on her desk and i saw my pleadings sitting there, no fax sheet, no confirmation sheets, no fax transmittal sheets. just sitting there. deadline was yesterday. i pulled the fax log to prove it. jojo is jumping, and he's jumping mad.

so that's the explanation of my user text and location. hope i look good in orange.....

lapietra

The wine accompanying this evening's dinner is a 2001 Merlot (rich fruit, surrounded by elegant creaminess, supple oak flavors and firm tannins :D) from Blackstone Winery in lurvely California.

The moo (a well-marbled Spencer steak) will be served with steamed asparagus tips, a puree of roasted root vegetables, and a nice arugula salad with shallots, walnuts and portabello mushrooms sauteed in olive oil, a bit of balsamic vinegar, and a soupçon of goat cheese.

I am off to earn this repast by walking briskly around the track for at least 2 miles. :D

I had one of the most amazing dinners I'm ever likely to eat last night. I was at a friend's college High Table:

Quails' eggs, cherry tomato and spinach salad with a lemongrass dressing (I think) (I couldn't eat the fish course, which was a halibut terrine)

Flowering courgette stuffed with (I think) cream cheese, garnished with morels (I had never even seen a courgette flower before)

Gressingham duck with quince and cranberries in a Scotch sauce

Banana and caramel igloo in a pistachio sauce (this was like a baked Alaska literally shaped like an igloo, with a little pointed bit of meringue poking out the top, lit up as they carried it to the table)

Wines: a white Macon-Villages (my absolute favourite white wine) and some Australian Shiraz, with some Sauternes for the dessert course. Amazing.

02-19-2003, 08:21 AM
voor 4 personen:
1/2 cc zout
peper
2 cc mosterd
1 eigeel
1 cc witte wijnazijn
2 dl olie

Doe het zout, peper, de mosterd, het eigeel en de azijn in een kom. Kloppen totdat het dik is.
Langzaam olie toevoegen daarbij continu flink blijven kloppen.

Translation:

For 4 persons:
½ cc vodka shot
pepper
2 cc monster
1 egg
1 cc white ice cream
2 dl oil

Heat the vodka shot, pepper, monster and the egg in a basket. Shake it hard. Add oil slowly and continue to shake the basket. Heat it on the stove and add water. If it too thick, add more water. Add the ice cream and taste the finished product.

Frieda
02-19-2003, 08:49 AM

looks like pork tenderloin marinated in basalmic vinegar, garlic, cayenne, paprika, and black pepper and grilled to perfection.

rosemary potatoes, cut into wedges and covered with fresh garlic, rosemary, salt and olive oil, boiled, then baked.

grilled eggplant brushed with white wine, more garlic, more basalmic vinegar, black pepper and fresh ginger.

salad with a ginger vinegrette.

i mean, hot dogs are some funky stuff, but at least we could describe what went into them:
pork, beef, snouts, marrow, perhaps some rat entrails, all stuffed into the intestinal lining of a cow (or a simulated plastic version).

mmm, makes you hungry for a frankfurter right now, doesn't it?
