Appearance: Around the size and shape of a barley sugar or similar lolly. Usually striped black and white but stripes may be coloured differently according to flavour.
Properties: Usually aniseed flavoured but sometimes mint, raspberry or even lavender.
Social habits: Sold in large groups in packets or bags.
Preferred prey: Small children, live and screaming.

Between trips from our old house to our new house hauling over the rest of the crap, I went to my coffeeshop and bought a bottled mexican coke. Kidless, I stood outside watching the sun set and inhaling secondhand smoke from the passel of smokers out front as a jumbo jet flew over at cruising altitude leaving four brilliant white contrails.

The mexican coke (made with sugar instead of High Fructose Corn Syrup) played over my tongue just differently enough and added a certain familiar friction to my teeth to take my psyche back to days of old before Coke Classic and Bill Cosby when my dad was still alive.

Amazing, Brynn! has he revealed how it's done?

I think the highlight of my day must've been sleeping in until one; I woke up feeling completely relaxed.

so relaxed, in fact, that I rolled out of bed and slept for another half hour on the floor...

But, what can you expect after a week of six-hour nights?

Brynn
03-13-2007, 06:52 PM
If you're like me, a steady stream of six-hour nights eventually means you'll get sick, that's what - good thing you caught up!

I don't know that Penn and Teller ever reveal their own best tricks, anyway, but that's one I hope to never figure out. There was some street stuff that David Blaine did that I used to just drop-jaw marvel at that I'm kind of sorry I know how to do now, thanks to youtube, so I mourn that loss of wonder a little bit. Some of the most wonderful tricks out there are also the simplest of all possible illusions, and I've no doubt that "Shadows" is one of those.

The highlight of my day was a fairly typical Geography lesson.
I spent the first half hour or so of the lesson handcuffed to the person next to me for no particular reason. Eventually someone comparitively observant noticed the handcuffs and told their neighbour. From there the news spread as people started shouting across the room that I had a weapon. Mild chaos ensued. The behaviour of the class reminds me strongly of a flock of sheep when they see something they have never seen before. Eventually the teacher tracked down the source of the confusion and told us to remove the handcuffs. When I asked why, she looked quite confused and said that they weren't allowed, although there is nothing against them in the school's discipline code. She was also glancing toward my suspiciously empty book, so rather than argue the point we took off the handcuffs.

This is the top class in a Government-funded highschool. I am not joking.

Anyway, these are the notes I took today. We do get our books checked every now and then.

The one pic I am mad I didn't get: some lady breastfeeding on a bench in a big crowd of people waiting for the fireworks. Seriously. We could not believe it.

I would believe you because here we do that sort of thing all the time. What I found hard to believe and wanted a picture of was a woman I saw breastfeeding in Seattle with some sort of bib thing on so no-one would accidentally be offended by her baby having a drink - or possibly have their attention yanked away from the porn on display in the newstands for a moment. Seriously, no-one here believes me when I tell them about it.

"36 states have laws with language specifically allowing women to breastfeed in any public or private location (Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Utah, Tennessee, Texas, and Vermont)."

Sure, why not? Men will start to lactate if you suck long enough.

Not sure why a woman breastfeeding in public would warrant any disbelief. Unless I am bleary-eyed for lack of sleep and just don't get your post.

FYI... those blankies to cover up the action - it's like waving a flag to say yoooooooohoooooooo here I am!!! Most women can nurse in public and never have anyone notice.

An Unboring Sunday Brunch

1. Spread a flatbread with philly cheese
2. Sprinkle ground sweet paprika over the cheese
3. Spread a few teaspoons of store-bought pesto over it
4. Add some capers in vinegar and a bit of the vinegar
5. Fold up clumsily
6. Eat as finger food, dripping vinegar and oil all over your pajamas.

but
that's just a signal to the outside world, like people say about me "dial m for murder, or just for a random punch in the face" when i put on the serious look. im reluctant to try "blue steel" but i might do that soon though. im on the edge. i might even start to wear sneakers to work again. or put makeup on.

i hate it and therefore i have to let it go. ill see how long i can go without a proper shave.

the highlight of my day? hmmm... let me think... perhaps it was the part where i went to MOTHER LOVING SPACE CAMP????

this means i've finally visited all three NASA facilities: kennedy space center at cape canaveral, johnson space center in houston, and marshall space flight center in huntsville.

stood near the base of a 1:1 scale model of the saturn V rocket. i had to piece together several shots in photoshop in order to capture the whole damn thing. it's huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge. i'd seen a saturn V laid out lengthwise along the hangar at kennedy, but seeing it upright was awe-inspiring.

http://www.gofalldown.com/cacophony/myimages/SaturnV-3b.jpg

for scale, here's a different shot (http://www.gofalldown.com/cacophony/myimages/SaturnVScale.jpg). well back from the actual site, with people in the foreground to illustrate how enormous this thing is.

rockets make my heart go pitty-pat.

Today is New Years Day and the local humane society was closed. I found a wonderfuly sweet lab/springer spaniel mix walking near a busy intersection and took him home at 3:00 this afternoon. I simply cannot keep another dog, but I took a chance this time hoping to find someone to help me out. After a lot of phone calls, at 9:00 pm I gave him to a man who runs a no kill shelter here in town. Finding a home for that dog was the highlight of my day.
