The people in the great state of Michigan like to set off fireworks from June through October. Is it the same in your state? It really gets intense on the fourth of July, which is understandable, but sheeshhh, the rest of the summer?

it's because of the proximity to indiana. i grew up in kalamazoo and people used to cross the border just for fireworks so they could stock up. also cheaper cigarettes.

here (being atlanta) i've noticed it depends on the neighborhood. some neighborhoods are fireworks-heavy all summer. my current neighborhood doesn't seem to care much about fireworks at all.

I moved to the South Bend IN area near the Michigan state line when I was 10. Yes, they sold fireworks then and they still do. When I go home to visit, I still hear the cherry bombs and sky rockets streaming up into the night sky. The weird thing now is I live on the PA/ NJ state line (the Delaware River) and before the 4th, NJ people could go over to PA and buy fireworks but if you got caught bringing them back to NJ, they would be taken away and you'd get a fine because you could not use them in NJ legally. If you were a PA resident, you would be not be allowed to by the fireworks from the PA vendor at all. Go figure. :p

Oh, ya - my cousins would drive in from Chicago to buy ciggies and bring my dad's booze order back from Illinois. Taxes, taxes taxes. (I paid $2.68 for gas this week)

Klynne, how are YOU?!!! It's been awhile since you last posted. Still not smoking?

I'm sorry if this makes me a fireworks state-ist, but Indiana has the best fireworks. Hands down.

They do it here all summer too. Just certain neighborhoods, and certain neighbors.

we can hear the automatic weaponfire in amongst the fireworks across the street in town on the 4th, and on new years. Nobody wants to waste the ammo on other days, so they just light of firecrackers and bottlerockets. They sell it here, but its illegal to shoot them off. go figure.

^:(

Well, down here near the other border, we see no reason to stop at the end of summer. Christmas, New Year's, Fiesta, all the saint's days...the fun never stops. Even when it hasn't rained in 6 months and the merest tiny spark is likely to start a wildfire of immense proportions. :D

I love the colors. The soft booms are okay. The crackling kaboom ones genuinely scare me. At a water park nearby on the ocean, they shoot them all summer long. Environmentalists aren't too happy though, claiming lead, chromium, mercury, cadmium, strontium, copper, titanium, magnesium, aluminum, strontium, boric acid, potassium, rubidium, arsenic, tungsten, zinc chromate, radioactive barium, dioxins and more  makes it home in the bay. I'm so conflicted now :o

My cats hate them, the dogs hate them.
I'm okay with the neighbor hood stuff til they start landing on my roof. THEN, I tend to get a little pissy.

I live in the 18th quarter of Paris - the very northern tip of the city. When I moved into my apartment 5 years ago, I could heard firecrackers being set off at all hours of the night from mid-june to mid-August (the 14th of July is when we celebrate our independence day). Sometimes I think I heard gunshots too - rare for France but there were a few drug-slinging gangs in the neighborhood back then.

Every year it gets a bit calmer, and this year I only heard firecrackers on the 14th of July

I don't really get it, but I think it may be due to the drastic increase in cost of living in my neighborhood (40% in 5 years). The firecracker population gradually got pushed outside of the city limits..

I've been hearing fireworks since early June. Most of them don't bother me too much. But those bad boys that can level a shack, or blow a VW Beetle into the next block, get old after awhile.

You. Not me. My Atlanta knowledge is confined to Buckhead, Fat Matt's Rib Shack, Krispy Kreme, a couple of Brames, and the panhandlers downtown.

i've lived here for 7 years but i've never been to fat matt's rib shack or krispy kreme. i don't know what a brames is. apparently residence has done nothing for my knowledge of the area.

i'm in alpharetta, which is about 15 minutes north of buckhead.

You forgot...Peachtree

and west peachtree and peachtree industrial and peachtree way and peachtree city and peachtree corners...

I am smoking again Jack:( I am ashamed. I did really well, then fooled myself into thinking that I could have a smoke here and there, and then it became full time again.

I think I asked you in the past about gardening? I am growing vegetables like crazy. Lurves, Me.

Yea veggies!!! BOOOOO! ciggies!!! OK - I smoked on and off for some... years but (butt) have been done with the bastards for 8 years now. I don't know how people especially in NJ can afford them. Find someone with a really bad chest cold and let them cough in your face for a day. After you get really sick and can't breathe for a week, I swear you'll never want to suck in smoke again. Cold-turkey man!! Then use the $$$ you didn't spend on butts for landscaping ... or shoes or what ever makes you happy!! :)
