heeeEEEEEYYYYYyyyyy! now here's a coincidence. there's a flower growing down in the nearby wetland that looks just like this one! except it's a really vibrant blue/violet. i took a picture with my camera phone the first day i found it, but the shot came out blurry. then it thunderstormed like crazy and the blossoms ended up battered and bruised and i could never get a good shot after that. i've been trying to figure out how to identify it without being able to show a photo.
AND HERE IT IS!

She's called a Devil's Trumpet, which is a misuse of apostrophe, because she, in fact is a devil strumpet and will make you look under her double skirt, ruffled on purpose.

Orchids
They lean over the path,
Adder-mouthed,
Swaying close to the face,
Coming out, soft and deceptive,
Limp and damp, delicate as a young bird's tongue;
Their fluttery fledgling lips
Move slowly,
Drawing in the warm air.
And at night,
The faint moon falling through whitewashed glass,
The heat going down
So their musky smell comes even stronger,
Drifting down from their mossy cradles:
So many devouring infants!
Soft luminescent fingers,
Lips neither dead nor alive,
Loose ghostly mouths
Breathing.

Hunting them, a man must sweat, bear
the whine of a mosquito in his ear,
grow thirsty, tired, despair perhaps
of ever finding them, walk a long way.
He must give himself over to chance,
for they live beyond prediction.
He must give himself over to patience,
for they live beyond will. He must be led
along the hill as by a prayer.
If he finds them anywhere, he will find
a few, paired on their stalks,
at ease in the air as souls in bliss.
I found them here at first without hunting,
by grace, as all beauties are first found.
I have hunted and not found them here.
Found, unfound, they breathe their light
into the mind, year after year.
