Cheese Buffs Steal a Ton of Choice Comte

STRASBOURG, France (Reuters) - Connoisseur thieves broke into a cheese cellar in eastern France and made off with over a ton of top-grade cheeses worth 10,000 euros (dollars), police said Wednesday.



The aficionados snubbed other, lower-quality batches maturing in the cellar and made off with 36 rounds of comte, a hard yellow cheese with a strong and slightly sweet flavor.


"They chose very particular cheeses, ones known for their taste," police chief Francis Jourdain said.


The haul of cheeses, each weighing 88 pounds, took place sometime in the past five days at Vuillafans, a historic little town in the lush eastern cheese-making region of Doubs.


France produces 46,000 tons a year of comte, similar to gruyere. A third is exported, notably to the United States and Germany.

actually, i think we're getting some great new faces.

out of the top ten, beale's been quiet for awhile, amanda went on hiatis, mon seems gone for good, and i have been slowly slipping from the top...

however Moel and Noxx have been quickly gaining posts, and Red recently joined the ranks of Top Ten.

the problem is, Ze, to get new people ON the Top Ten we have to get old people OFF the Top Ten and i don't want to see any of our top posters fade into the night...

they're already baked cookies that you pop in the microwave for 15 seconds and they taste like they're fresh bakes. Ms. Fields has some too. they're FANTASTIC!
