it's satruday night
i'm drunk, kind of
tomorrow i go to work again. I usually i look forward to something new going on around here when I go to work on Sunday, if only a picture of a toilet or a short poem about footy.
Unfortunately lately nothing seems to be working- people have conversations and replies don't appear -it takes ages to load the page-
Is there a software upgrade, or a database cleanup that can solve this problem ?
I'm only posting this thread because I really like this place, and I'm concerned with recent developments. The technical malfunctions, and the fact that the link via the main page towards this bulletin board has not been reinstated, make me wonder how much of a future this place has.
Please correct me if I am delusional.

if this place is not working you can always go to the old " THE SHOW" forum... nevermind that one is closed to new members. Maybe the Org.--that one is by invitation only, but it is not closed yet.
At least this one is still open and allows new members. Take the bad with the good and the good with the less than horrible.

I'm feeling quite fortuitously left out here; for some reason I'm not getting those problems (touchwood!) The pages are slow to load and sometimes my browser tries to download a file rather than open the link I click on, but it only takes one or two goes to load the page and I haven't had trouble logging in. Actually I leave my account logged in, so that might not be an indicator.

i dont think earthling can help triple posting, it happens to me too during the current board trouble.
T.I.P.
10-01-2007, 05:15 AM
so i was going to try to make a list of symptoms...^ earthling's triple post is one of them
Symptoms noticed so far:
-Long load time (up to several minutes). The waiting (browser indicates "Waiting for bulletin.zefrank.com") occurs when you first log on, when you preview a post, when you post a reply.
-When you post a reply and the screen goes blank, and then you try to refresh your browser, it makes a double (eventually triple) post. My current workaround for this problem is to click on my shortcut to the main page after I post a reply.
-Threads not bumped to top by new replies.
-Name of last poster in thread not indicated in "Last Post" column
These symptoms appear and disappear randomly. I don't see any correlation with the "currently active users" or "time of day" but I have not really looked for trends yet.

What I noticed in addition to the already mentioned problems:
Problems to load the page as a whole - or threads when you were lucky to get here, occur during weekdays most often around 15-17h MET, i.e. 10-12h board time. Can be that the bumping together of European afternoon/early-feierabend net traffic and North American morning traffic adds to the problem.
Another thing I noticed: some of the pics (animated .gif files and the like mostly) Earthling - mayhap it occurred with other too? - (tried to) post(ed) did not show up but a banner saying it cannot show cos of too large bandwidth. As I understand Ze pays for bandwidth (mille, mille grazie! :)), that is only a certain amount is available, right? So can it be that there is an overflow? Could explain the (temporarily) vanished posts, in most cases they contain pictures or videos, i.e. bandwidth-intense data...
lukkucairi

the thing where it says you have to wait 30 seconds to post again. i posted, the post didn't show up, so i went back to retype and hit submit. i got the warning telling me i'd just posted and i had to wait 30 seconds.
which means somewhere in the system my post was recognized but it just disappeared into a black hole.

^ perhaps you don't have that constraint because of your administrator status.
I'm guessing the 30 second rule is there to avoid the board from being spammed to death and/or to force people to think about what they are posting, if only for a few moments, when things start getting too heated.

Quite a little bit of weird stuff going on. For one thing, I can't seem to start a thread:
Peregrine, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
I wasn't actually going to post a new thread. I was just poking around with the interface because my job is boring. And I can post replies OK, apparently, but I can't post a new thread. I'm guessing the administrators turned off the new thread ability for users under a certain post count because of all the spam in here lately, and since I mostly lurk, I'm below the cut-off too. If that's the case, I'll live with it. Otherwise, its a little weird.
someone need to back up....
also clear your cookies - reload the page
if you get the 30 seconds when posting back up or hit preview and see if your post is already there, then hit the top to get out.
There are server problems that need fixing.

Many Ze. forums are under some kind of lockdown/lockout conditions. Probably due to flaming or spaming. One would assume you could work around the one you are experiencing in here by apologizing for being off-topic and having a mentor give you your thread.

Ze's cat hates birds...that's your problem Peregrine. Perhaps if you post some piccys of dead pigeons that you stooped (dove) on at speeds exceeding 200 MPH, you might get forgiven for your screen name.
Peregrine
10-04-2007, 03:12 PM
Too bad I'm not an actual bird, and just a guy hiding behind a screen name.
On the other hand, there's usually some road-kill on the through-way on the way to work in the mornings. I'm pretty sure most of them used to be pigeons. and they were probably hit by something going at least 100kph...
Maybe some pictures of that then?
No, that's just gross.

Image, clutter and many of the ads in the subject are just plain disgusting. But most of all it's those little bots sending homing signals to all their little friends and relative that they found a great site to plant more spam families without captcha. I've noticed that they have already seeped into the other forums and spoken to one extended bot family that has double in creating user accounts. You really want to delete these guys ASAP or install captcha cause they will take over.

Stuff's not getting bumped to the top when somebody posts sometimes, and I am getting a lot of loading error messages...
So weird, same problems as earlier, but they're so random and transitory.

I think it's getting near that time again, when someone might consider putting in a call to give the server a kick in the teeth. If it's not that time yet, it's getting fairly close to it.

Hi miss grumble - i wonder if you're having the same problems I am - apparently I can only post once a day, and then the pages won't load for the rest of the day. Is this the beginning of the end?
Anyway, hi folks.

Brightpearl, one cool thing that Firefox has over IE is that when you click 'view' then 'make text bigger' it is always is successful.
