To be honest, I'm shocked. But to tell you the truth, there's a part of me that prefers she'd never been found. Her story went global in under a week and for months it was all the media would talk about. Speculating what had happened to her. If she had been kidnapped, who kidnapped her, if she ran away, why did she run away, etc. etc. etc.

Right at this very second, as I'm sitting in my cubicle typing this, my co-workers are walking around, asking eachother if they'd heard the news, a million and one "I told you so" remarks have been made in the past 20 minutes, and everyone is calling their relatives who live on the other side of the country to tell them the news.

For ****'s sake, you'd think they found the holy grail. Ever since the Elizabeth Smart story broke, I've had a weird spider-sense about the whole situation which to this day remains to be going crazy. The media frenzy that will soon ensue regarding her being found will be insane. But at least maybe now, they'll all shut up about the Columbia shuttle explosion.

Am I bitter? I guess you could say that. I'm actually just dreading the amount of broadcast time this is going to be wasting. Thousands of kids go missing every day in the United States. On average, two-hundred of those kids are from Utah. Why the Smart story deserves as much attention as it has received, I'll never know. Even now, as a cubicle buddy of mine listens to his radio, I've noticed that the journalist has been repeating the same sentence over and over again since her discovery. No doubt someone in the Smart family will someday write a book about the ordeal. Elizabeth will appear on every talk show that television has to offer. And her father will once again find some way to get his face in front of a news camera and cry.

And Richard Ricci is still dead. Shit happens I guess. The horrific amount of stress he was put under was no doubt the cause of his death. And he stuck to his guns and pleaded innocent throughout the whole investigation. But Elizabeth Smart has been found, so we can all sleep better tonight.

I am however, happy for the family. I'm glad that they don't have to go through the ordeal of being informed that their daughter's remains were found in the middle of Barstow. It's nice that this investigation can soon come to an end. After almost being declared legally dead, Elizabeth Smart can return to her family. But if I may pose another theory, maybe Elizabeth didn't want to be found. Just a thought.

I never know what's going on outside of the UK if I rely on the BBC. International? Global? Foreign affairs? What's that then?

well i read a bit more about the situation and apparently the guy (who thinks of himself as a prophet for the homeless) said that "GOD" told him to kidnap her because he needed another wife. hell I've been waiting a long time for some guy to come into my bedroom and claim me as his wife. it sounds completly normal to me.

At home my parents refuse to get any channels which aint free. At uni I have no say whatsoever as to what channels we get. We tried to get digital and they gave us a PS2 instead.

I know in the first month of living here there were at least three days where "ABDUCTION ALERT" flashed constantly on signs into salt lake on I-15.. that was a first for me. I was hoping I would be abducted -- at least I would be meeting new people. I was thinking a couple of super hotties from the U and then maybe later I could watch it on tv. yeah, good times.

Yeah, as soon as they found her, I havent been on the freeway without seeing an amber alert, what sux about them, is everyone slowes down to read them...when it isnt that hard to read them while at full speed.....I think they are a good thing though..

I think we need to find some balance here. Instead of bigger signs maybe everyone should just drive bigger cars. Four or five times bigger than they are now. Wait, bigger signs _and_ bigger cars. Or faster cars with small signs on them. Call the governer asap
