I'd like to start a message thread about phobias that many of us share but to "normal" people seem too silly to give their own name. I suggest we share these, and if people can come up with latin words for each others' that would be great! I"ll start:

I have this friend who isn't just afraid of sharks, and isn't just afraid of water...but who refuses to close her eyes all the way in the shower because she's afraid if she does a shark will attack her....in the shower. She'll let soap run in her eyes before she will risk being vulnerable to attack.

#1 - Fear of Being Attacked by a Shark in the Shower

Here's mine:
When I wash my face at night, I will only look down, and will grapple for a towel and dry off without ever looking up until I leave the bathroom. Because I've seen way too many movies where the unsuspecting person splashes their face with water and then pop up only to have impending doom standing behind them in the bathroom staring in the mirror. So....

#2 - Fear of Looking in Mirror While Washing your face in case there's a monster standing behind you.

Whenever I do my laundry, washing or drying, I have to check each at least twice, because I'm scared that one of my kitties wandered into the machine.
Is that a phobia, or a disorder?

I always fret that there is something stuck in my teeth. I always ask my friends to look and make sure I have nothing in my teeth. There should be a phobia for the fear of laughing with something stuck in your teeth.

I suppose I should post my online translator so we can all look for variations of the terms and argue out which flows of the tongue better! hehe. The link is:

i used to run down the stairs in my house (in socks even) after i flushed the toilet so no one could get me while i couldn't hear anything because of the noise. ... needless to say, i fell... lots. but, i never stopped, because i was always afraid of being attacked upstairs in the bathroom. *shrugs* it's funny now... ^_^

it didn't make any sense, but i like to attrubute all my weird problems to my dad, who would sneak up behind me any time he could and scare the begeesus out of me.

i think that's the same reason i always sleep in the far corner from the door, and facing the door. no matter where i go. ^_^

yay for complexes!!

Always sleep facing the outside of a double bed. If you face inwards to the middle, it's just then that the monsters can slooowwllly......reach ......over....... and................AAAAUUUUGGHH!!

I'm scared of spiders.

Especially in the bathroom. I guess it's because it's a small space and I'm usually naked when I'm in there. Not the conditions under which I want to meet a spider.

I see him around from time to time. He's officially an outdoor pet though.

Thank God.

That one looks kinda like a wolf spider. I was attacked by a wolf spider once, but that's another story.

Australia has some mean-ass spiders, doesn't it?
