My former sociology professor was killed in a shark attack last week. Apparently, she liked to swim with the seals. She must’ve been out swimming with the seals when a hungry shark came by…
It’s just too frickin’ weird. She was a pretty cool teacher.

I just don’t tend to think of the central coast of California as a shark-infested area. I guess people should think twice before venturing into the ocean with creatures that sharks consider snackies…
What’s a shark bed?

i hate it that you can't see the bottom of the sea when you're standing in it.. makes you wonder what's down there at your feet! brrrr!

I can't believe that you don't think that the central coast of California is not shark-infested.. Nearly all of the shark attacks in California history (http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/fish/sharks/Statistics/GAttack/mapCA.htm) has happened in area's north of the Point Conception, and most of the Great White attack localized between there and Santa Cruz. There are attacks in So. Cal - especially in SD but rarely Great Whites. I freak out every time I surf up there knowing this information. That is why I surf the crowded surf spots hoping that my chances are better if I look less appetizing than one of the other 20 to 50 people in the water.

I remember swimming around when I was about eight or so. Mind you I was small back then, and I was in really deep water. Wayyy out in the ocean. The water was really clear, and as I am playing around I look down and I see a baby shark (baby shark=about 5ft.) Ever since then, I have so so afraid of going in the water.

looking into water magnifies objects 25%. so mabe he was only 3.75 feet long.
hee hee. I don't think 5 feet would not make him a baby. I see sharks all the time. Most always the ones you see are harmless. Shovel nose ( sand) sharks, Leopard sharks, Thresher sharks, Blue sharks (really cool looking), Black tip reef sharks.
