It causes a lot of extra traffic to a person's web site. Most people pay for a certain amount of traffic a month and it can cause problems.
Maybe someone else can give you a better explanation.

Ideally you should copy the image to your desktop and then upload it to your own server space and then link it from there.

Imagine if this site were Ze's house with a bunch of power outlets that we're all plugging into.

Some of the outlets connect to the main feed for Ze's house. Other outlets are at the end of extension cords to other houses.
