We've had the discussion about avatars and screen names....

Now: What does your signature (if you've got one) mean to you? Why do you want that particular saying to associate with everything you write?

Also the meaning of your custom text (the bit under your screen name), if you've acquired the way to change it.

I saw my signature on a bus. I spent an evening asking friends if they could figure out what it was supposed to me, and no one could. So I've made it my personal motto :p

As for the custom text, every time I put cheese in the hall refrigerator here, someone steals it. Pisses me off to no end.

Mine's a line from "Buckaroo Bonzai" that when I first heard it, it seemed really funny and kind of Zen (you know, "Be Here Now" kind of thing)... later I realized what it meant to me, which is that no matter where you go, who you are is always there, good or bad. No escaping it. And also, sort of comforting.
My custom line... well, I'm definitely not bland. ;) At least, I'd like to think not...

Jim Elliot is one of my heroes. He was a missionary in Ecuador in the 50s. The quote is a summary of Christianity.

Go ahead, call me a geek. I can take it.

Oh I know, Frieda- I've been bit by the Pratchett bug also.

But why that particular quote about Thaum?

well, lessee.... my sig. is a frank zappa quote, and i thought it was pretty cool. my anthro prof. quoted it one day in class talking about countries and whatnot.

the custom text is just something i say a lot. it's from some movie... i don't remember which one... but all the characters are from jersey. if you say it with a jersey accent, it sounds much better.

ok, my turn....

my custom text is just that-- all my friends' wives hate me... they collectively think i'm something of a bad influence on their husbands.... but the truth is, i have agreed to be the fall guy so they can blame anything we have done on me by saying that it was my idea... so i'm something of a martyr....

and my staring baseball---it's silly really..... i've had this baseball close to forever and it sits on my desk... the staff here at the office love to screw around with this baseball b/c they know it is one of the few things that will push a button with me-- well, they've always threatened to deface the baseball by drawing on it, running it through sewage, etc., but instead of defacing it directly, they drew eyes on a sticky note and stuck it to my baseball to give it a human quality... so now the baseball sits on my desk and stares at me.... i figure that if i leave the sticky note on my baseball, they will leave it alone, and so far, it's worked

well because itŽs the typical Terry Pratchett-way to explain what something is.. he turns it into something ridiculous.

My sig is directly from the Master Himself:

:: drum roll, please ::

Weird Al Yankovic

I've been a fan of his since "Eat It" came out in '83('84?), and I've seen him in concert 4 times (1st was in '87 when he opened up for The Monkees, and the others were when he was the headliner). I HIGHLY recommend seeing him live, 'cuz he puts on one helluva show, & is funny as hell.

;)

My custom text was because I couldn't stop playing this game (http://www.bravozulu.com/catbowl/) .
My signature is because I am an ameatur astronomer/closet astrologer and it picks me up when I'm down. It's beautiful.

My signature is from a song from a band I saw recently in concert and have been raving about a lot lately. And I just think it's a neat lyric--the song is about a guy who lost his girl and wants things to be the way they used to be when they were together and he knows they cant be and basically the lyric says the rest. I think people can identify to it--at least I know I can.

I suppose it's my turn.

My current one is a latin proverb- bascially it sums up how I deal with life. When the winds are favorable, set your sails and ride them with as little reefing as possible. But sometimes the winds aren't favorable or not even there at all- that's when it's time to do something different- break out the oars and paddle out of the doldrums.

But it's also tied to my two loves on the water, sailing and kayaking. When there is wind, I go sailing. When there isn't, it's time to pull out the kayak and go for a row. (Or go under with a swim with the fishies- scuba diving being a recently-aquired love.)

My last one is one of my favorite quotes of all time: "Learn to handle hot things. Always keep your knives sharp. And above all, have a good time." Julia Child was just giving advice on how to be a good cook, but this advice serves well for how to live a good life also. I try to live by it in the kitchen and outside of it.

My custom text: a nickname my father gave me. He's renaissance man. A friend of mine is "the man who can". And I'm renaissance girl- all of us hoping to be able to take on anything that comes our way, which is usually more than the average cookie.

actually, both my custom text and my signature are references to a conversation about calculated insanity.

a group of old friends and i decided that rather than slip slowly into senility we would rather calculate our insanity now while we could.

the deer (in my signature) are getting thumbs and, in the original conversation, will be interestingly posed with shotguns, tied to skateboards and wheeled into traffic in some hunting-heavy backwoods location.

the pants, well, that quote eludes to my plan to rule the world, but i can’t broadcast any more about that. after all, i’m not mad yet…

"All the PANTS in Oregon!"

It been progressively worse since Watterson stopped writing them. *sigh*.

Calvin- one of my cats, named after the aforementioned precocious six year old. My cat gets in nearly as much trouble for being himself as Calvin does.

Sam- my other cat, named after "Sam I Am" in Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss. (Hey, I was only six- my literary knowledge wasn't very extensive)

i really really thought about naming my striped orange tabby hobbes (honest i did), but he just didn't have the personality to be a "hobbes".... i named him 'brother' b/c 'coma' just didn't sound right.....

netflower

Same here! Though he ain't striped. I ended up naming him "Keyser" after Keyser Soze. After you see through his charming, innocuous exterior, he truly is the devil in disguise.

Okay, here's a question. With all this drama about number of posts/status/etc. that's been going on lately, I was reluctant to mention it, but the question's always been in the back of my mind.

I could change my avatar and custom text (under my screen name) almost immediately after I registered. Why?

Could it be the superior quality of my posts? (Just kidding.) Or some computerized board anomaly? Or does Ze manually do these things?

Anyone?

My signature comes from a pennant that was in my AP US History class. I would like to attend Yale Law School. I thought it was cute.
