His force (USAF) and unit (332 ECES) are like your street address, "APO AE" is like the city/state and the zip is a normal zip code.

Make up a box and bring it to your favorite post office, Mail Boxes Etc, Postal Annex, or whatever. Should cost about the same as sending it anywhere else domestically.

As I head off to Baghdad for the final weeks of my stay in Iraq, I wanted to say thanks to all of you who did not believe the media. They have done a very poor job of covering everything that has happened. I am sorry that I have not been able to visit all of you
during my two week leave back home. And just so you can rest at night knowing something is happening in Iraq that is noteworthy, I thought I would pass this on to you.

This is the list of things that has happened in Iraq recently:

Over 4.5 million people have clean drinking water for the first time ever in Iraq.
Over 400,000 kids have up to date immunizations.
Over 1500 schools have been renovated and ridded of the weapons that were stored there so education can occur.
The port of Uhm Qasar was renovated so grain can be off loaded from ships faster.
School attendance is up 80% from levels before the war.
The country had it's first 2 billion barrel export of oil in August.
The country now receives 2 times the electrical power it did before the war. 100% of the hospitals are open and fully staffed compared to 35% before the war.
Elections are taking place in every major city and city councils are in place. Sewer and water lines are installed in every major city.
Over 60,000 police are patrolling the streets.
Over 100,000 Iraqi civil defense police are securing the country.
Over 80,000 Iraqi soldiers are patrolling the streets side by side with US soldiers.
Over 400,000 people have telephones for the first time ever.
Students are taught field sanitation and hand washing techniques to prevent the spread of germs.
An interim constitution has been signed.
Girls are allowed to attend school for the first time ever in Iraq.
Text books that don't mention Saddam are in the schools for the first time in 30 years.

Don't believe for one second that these people do not want us there.

I have met many, many people from Iraq that want us there and in a bad way. They say they will never see the freedoms we talk about but they hope their children will. We are doing a good job in Iraq and I challenge anyone, anywhere to dispute me on these

Just to clear my good name, I did not write her a "Dear Paige" Letter... I got the cold shoulder for three days and she kept avoiding me. So I had to send it through e-mail.

I understand that you have a busy day and a job to do. But the thing is, I am feeling like a fool. I guess I just feel like I had you pegged all wrong. You said a lot of things that I wanted to believe and maybe it is my fault… I was so happy to find this perfect woman and I wanted so badly to believe the things that you were saying that I just got carried away in the moment. I guessed you for a completely different person. The funniest part is here I am writing the exact same thing, granted better grammar and spelling, as A1C Barr. So what I am getting at is that I feel played and I don’t even know what your goal was. I find it extremely hard to believe that your feelings changed from what they were to what they are in a matter of days. That all of sudden you go from puppy love to I don’t even have time to say hi to you in the mornings. From going out of your way to bring me a cup of coffee and a smile to later that day going out of your way to avoid me. From having every ounce of energy to make time for me to being so absolutely busy that you don’t even have time for yourself. The part the gets me is that you had me so wrapped up that I just stood by and let you walk on me, even when my troops were pointing it out to me. So for the past few days when you have been saying you will make time for me when I am worthy and telling me that things aren’t going to change that much… When you said you felt uneasy around me because you didn’t know how to act or what to say or how I was going to react, it wasn’t for those reasons at all… It was because you were saying things that you thought I wanted to hear, doing to me the exact thing that you begged me not to do. Well, anyway... I think I may understand what happened with Paige,too... I have a habit of projecting but from the way her letter sounded she's commitment-shy and when things started getting a little more intimate/real-relationshippy, she freaked out, dove into her work and 'forgot' to communicate with you about what was *really* going on with her. Maybe she felt like things were developing too fast for her comfort level.

I'm really sorry it didn't work out with you two... perhaps age does have its merits. You learn it's better to acknowledge what's going on than to shut people out... tho' I still have problems with that myself...I'd be a real hypocrite if I didn't mention that.

Anyway... you might want to give it a little time, and if you still find you feel the same way, maybe you could approach her again and see if you can get her to tell you what really happened...

None of us were there when you two were together, so we're halfway in the dark. Relationships can be so damned confusing. And once things start goin' south, things get misinterpreted, people get hurt, say things they don't mean, do things to protect themselves, etc. I didn't really get from her response, though, that she felt nothing for you. On the contrary - "...know that I will still be thinking of you on a daily basis and wishing that things happened differently..." doesn't sound like she felt nothing for you. She doesn't sound like a bad gal or that she purposely lied to you, Xerocs. But maybe she just realized that at this moment in her life, she doesn't have the time or the energy to put into a relationship. It really sucks, but sometimes people just honestly change their minds. We've all done it. But it doesn't mean the feelings we felt initially were untrue. I know I've been on both ends of the situation before and it does hurt when you're on the "losing" end, there's no doubt. I may not have any of this right. But at any rate, reading your email to her confirmed what a sweet guy you are and I'm sure that some lucky chick is going to find you and when she realizes what she's found, she will NEVER let you go. Until then, you have us! So please keep your chin up and don't be too down, sweetie. :)

Recently went through my own little crisis with my boyfriend. It has all worked out, but we are not in the middle of a desert. He recently told me that he had not had closure on his last relationship! It only ended in December and they were together for 5 years. I had a similar experience a year ago, where I was dating someone for four months. He sent me an e-mail to break it off, and tell me he was getting back with his ex, and I was hurt. I had finally let my guard down, and thought it might be going somewhere, then I get an e-mail from him? So, thinking to back a year ago, when my boyfriend told me that he did not have closure, I was all freaked out. Egad, I wanted to run the other way, but something told me to talk with him about it. And, we are fine now.

Don't know if this gives you any insight, probably not. What I have learned is, that if you think the person is worth it, keep the lines of communication open. My knee jerk reaction has always been if there is conflict, or doubt, don't deal with it walk away. Now that I am older, I will try to see if there is a way. Hey I am 36 so there is not much time left...HAHAHA just kidding. You are young and you will be just fine. Just know that the monkeys are all here to talk to you.
