I teach English (yes, dickieC and dinzdale- both bastardized American and British) and French (Parisian, not Canadian).
Mainly I just try to bring their levels up to a place where we can make up superheroes- thus "instigator of superheroes" on my profile. In the meantime, we have fun laughing at each other when we say "She's brushing her face".
Oh yeah, and I use Ze's toys as a reward for getting homework done early.

Science teacher for kids out in the wild and wooly forests of Oregon.
Clerk in a gift store for a traditional Japanese garden.
Non-profit fundraiser.
Tester/fitter of outdoor equipment for REI.
Yellow-pages advertisement proofreader.
Clerk in art museum gift store.
Crew on sailboat. (spent a whole month barefoot)

And now..

It's amazing- almost all my favorite jobs correspond to me being able to walk barefoot.

I'm only 20, still in university, but here's what I've got so far:
-seller of insanely expensive swiss chocolate ($50/pound)
-summer day camp director for a homeless shelter
-more chocolate selling
-nanny to four boys concurrently with chocolate selling
-assistant in university community involvement center
-medical care coordinator for HIV positive refugees being resettled in Houston
-trainer of university alcohol servers
-prostate cancer reseacher
Currently, I'm just a student because I'm not allowed to work in this country. When I return to the States, I'll go back to prostate cancer, but this summer I hope to work in broader research identifying over- and under-expressed genes in cancer cells.

Well, I have to admit I am a lawyer - please donīt kick me out of the board though - working as legal counsel for an IT-company.
My favorite job in the past was Santa Claus in a Norwegian supermarket, the worst was cleaning the toilettes on a campground.

OMG, Wizard, I can't disapprove of your current profession because I feel so bad about your toilet cleaning experience. I think all people should be made to clean toilets after themselves. The people we pay to clean them should just be monitors who won't let you leave the bathroom until you've done it.

i do 8-5 and several other interests and jobs out of the office.
MY 8 to 5:
i sold my soul for money. i work in a flourescent-lit office doing various computery things for a soul-less bigoted and chauvanistic company that sells and installs flourescent lighting. i look into my blackened heart and wondered how i ended up here.
i am taking time between my degree and my masters to learn more about myself and my next path. i guarantee it has nothing to do with flourescent lighting.
MY 5 to 12s:
i am a professional volunteer for various orgs
i fill various political campaign positions for or against various candidates and initiatives (aka volunteer coordinating, voter canvassing, campaign manager)
i am a freelance director/designer/stage manager
i do the occasional art show and sell my shit
i do workshops on Theatre of the Oppressed

You can add one former political consultant to your list of so-called sleazy occupations represented on this board!
I did that for over 16 years until I completely burned out about 2 years ago. Now I'm simply a wage slave pretending that I know what I'm doing. I handle human resources and help coordinate the marketing efforts for a small architecture/civil engineering firm.
I hang out here on Zefrank.com because I love the creative stimulation!

I do what I do, just because I'm good at it, not because I want to.

Ah well. Thanks anyhow.
HUD does have some stuff that is not Section 8.
The federal housing programs vary from state to state, because, well, some housing programs work better than others depending on income, demand, etc. I could do some research. If you qualify generally depends on your income. I will talk to my friend (She now works for the HUD Office in Chicago, but worked in the HUD Office in NYC for a couple of years).
You could PM me, and let me know the areas that you are interested in. I could hook you up with some people to talk to as well. Oh my God, $1,500 for rent? My mortage payment is under $700, and I have a 3 bedroom house in a very nice neighborhood. But, that is the difference between living in the Midwest and the East Coast.
