What did you eat today?
Oatmeal (it's still only 12:30 pm)
What's your favorite dish?

If you had to subsist on one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I get to die really soon, right?
Do you drink wine with dinner?
When I can, I'm a poor college student whose parents raised her unable to drink crap wine. So usually only when I'm at their house or out to eat with them. I prefer red (vegetarian, so I don't have to worry about chicken and fish and whatnot).
Do you have set times of day that you HAVE to eat all your meals?
Absolutely not. Sometimes I fall into one specific lunch time because of class schedules, and on weekdays at school in the states i tend to eat dinner at 6 because that's when it's served.
Have you ever gotten so busy that you've completely forgotten to eat?
It one point last year I started writing meals into my planner.
What's one dish you can cook really well?
I cook lots of things really well. But I'll say I make kick-ass vegetarian tamales.
What's your favorite dessert?
I like "screw the unobtainable image the media pushes on me, it's dessert for dinner night" dessert. You make a pan of brownies, sit down with three roommates/friends, and divide the brownies into fourths. Everyone gets a fourth. Top with big scoops of Ben and Jerry's ice cream. Eat with whatever alcohol is available (strawberry daquiri's make it that much more ridiculous) while watching movies.
Have you ever tried ice/dessert wine?
No
I know you're sensing the wine theme here outside of the food thing, crafty girl that I am; Do I need a glass of wine to get me through this night at work?
Eh, you deserve a whole damn bottle. Don't drink it too fast.
What food won't you eat?
By my current track record (most recent experience: duck stomach) it appears there's nothing. Actually, I won't eat lard.
What's your favorite vegetable?
I've always really liked most vegetables. I don't have a favorite.
Most detested vegetable?
Canned corn. (yeah, I know it only sort of counts because i like fresh corn, and corn's not even a vegetable, but if you have those objections, you need a hobby.)
What's your favorite fruit?
I agree with cosmo. Mango. If they're good and fresh they have an incredible taste. There is no neat way to eat one. The juice runs down your chin and all over your hands. The sexiest of the produce.
Most detested fruit?
blueberries. ick.

Sprouted wheat bagel w/cream cheese & coffee; sandwich of turkey, raclette & bacon on kalamata bread & a caesar salad; Naked Juice Green Machine; a chai latte; leftover Cornish game hen and rice cooked in white wine & portabello mushroom sauce, and a small piece of peach pie. Yeah - I pigged out.
What's your favorite dish?
I have to pick *one*? Ohhhh... I guess right now it's orrechiete with chunks of Heirloom tomatoes, white wine, fresh basil and butter.

pie (http://www.weebl.jolt.co.uk/index.htm)

It appears so.

What's your favorite fruit?
Papaya. mmmmmm... wish I had some right now....
Most detested fruit?
ummmmmm.....anything underripe, overripe or mushy. Otherwise, love it all.

I know you're sensing the wine theme here outside of the food thing, crafty girl that I am; Do I need a glass of wine to get me through this night at work?
Oh, I don't know- I had wine recently during one of my dinner breaks, taught some of my more fun classes afterwards....
What food won't you eat?
Actual options I've passed on in the past year: chicken feet, dog meat, cats' stomach, ducks' head, sheeps' head, live mice, and rat on a stick. Accidently took a bite of a pigeon's head (in Hong Kong). Once I realized what it was, it was properly flinged across the restaurant.
What's your favorite vegetable?
Edamame- the little bean that could. A close second- the olive.
(Bob and Larry should get an honorable mention, tho.)
Most detested vegetable?
Well, DeNiro didn't do a very good job in "Awakenings", but I wouldn't go as far as to say I detested him... no vegetable has ever done me wrong.
What's your favorite fruit?
Mangos. So sliippery and messy, you have to eat them naked.
Most detested fruit?
Not a big fan of raw apples, which is unfortunate, as one of my student's mothers gave me two of the largest ones I have ever seen yesterday- they're the size of softballs. I'll make some appley-sauce outta 'em.

lapietra, I also meant to say "Pie had to have been the most enjoyable waste of download time I've experienced in quite some time." but I was itching to get on that salmon fettacine (which was delicious).
red: to answer your question, no. Never saw a stray cat there. A few stray dogs, but never the same ones twice. I learned to hate China in that regard, and to steel myself to the awful peddling of kittens and puppies on the street as though they were fluffy fashion accessories.
Also- I learned from direct experience, don't eat at any of the restaurants near the hospital. (Which was tough, as our school was behind the hospital.)

If you've seen a hospital in China, you wouldn't ask.
I stayed in one for a week (don't ask- severe illness, almost didn't come out on the other side). Hospitals aren't very sanitary. (For example, bathrooms were a ditch with running water. Hunch down with 10 other sick women.). Also, you have to be completely self-relient- there are drugs there and people who know how to dispense the drugs, but that's about it. Everything else is done on your own or by family. (I even learned how to do my own IVs).
Of course, I had no family around, but I did have some of the best women in my school to look after me. Routinely, they would come and bring me food from one of the restaurants nearby (no food is served). I would smile, thank them profusely but claim I was too sleepy to eat. After they leave, I'd dump the soup (chinese soup tastes akin to oily dishwater), go with the bowl and pawn some hot water from the nurses station, go back to my room and wash myself as best as I could.
Then, one of my foriegn mates would show up with a strawberry milkshake from Mickey d's and jiao-zha (chinese dumplings).
Could never really wash the bowls after using them, which I figured was the case for most people (It seemed a fairly common practice, using soup bowls as wash basins- also for extra bedpans).
Well, you asked....

Hahaahahhaaa!! You poor thing!! That's an old trick. That and "Oh you are the honored guest at this table- You simply must eat the duck head...it's the most treasured part!" (snicker!)
Personally, I think Monty Python got the idea for the malovent Turkish translator making up dirty Turkish phrases for "Where's the bathroom?" in a Turkish/English phrase book from China. Sneaky buggers.
Actually, I was just thinking for hot pots- cat's stomach is considered a delicacy for that particular meal. Everything else is great, but go for the "non-cat section" if you don't want to partake.

My damn roommate did it to me again!
"Let's go out for dim sum."
<We sit down at the table and a cart comes by. Chinese I don't understand is spoken.>
"Try this."
"What is it?"
"Meat. It's good" (It looks like little strips of meat...I should know better)
I take a bite:
"Ahhh. It's skin! What's this hard thing [spit it out]? Oh my god, it looks like a finger bone. Who's finger am I eating?"
"Duck feet!"
I'm never eating with her again.
