View Full Version : Where should I go next?

... and anyone says "to hell" and I'll flick you on the nose.

Job's about driving me nuts. One day back and I'm already irritated. A new record. I came into the office in a GREAT mood ... rested, happy.

Now I can't wait to get home.

So that's it. Time for me to go job hunting.

Having some leverage and flexibility ... where's my next adventure.

I'm actually considering either London or San Fran ... but I'm open to other ideas.

Where's a cool place in the world to live and work?

Find me my new adventure.

NYC,

Are you really sick of your job, or sick of where you live?

You are a very good writer, so what do you want to write about? What interests you? What kind of climate do you like?

Sorry that I am answering your questions with questions.

One more question, do you do any free lance work?

Klynne

If you like a nice climate, and affordable living, south east asia is nice. Thailand.

I'm not a writer anymore Klynne ... haven't been in years. I'm an editor. I edit and design.

I love this city, but am not happy with the job at the moment. I've been feeling like this for two years now. It's an incredibly hard office to work in, it's finally wearing me down. (I could tell stories that would probably horrify you).

I'd love to find something else here in NYC, but it's a very tight market.

So either someone gives me a good suggestion for a new place to explore, or I'll do what I've done before -- throw a dart at a map.

I'm even contemplating Oz.

I would love to live and work in london. Orange County, CA is nice and relaxing.. kinda boring though. My vote is for London.

I like coaching and mentoring .. don't get to do a lot of that anymore where I am.

I just emailed Sharon Stone's hubby. Hopefully he'll call.

I really admire you for wanting to pack up and move to another city. I would be so scared. I would love to do it though.. one day.. you never know.. hehe:)

San Francisco would be nice and relaxing... beautiful, nice weather. Calming. :) Good people. Lots of cute gay men. :D

Of course - you'd have to change your screen name to GGBWriters or SFBWriters or something like that...

I would tell you to come to Cleveland, that it is the glittering center of a cosmopolitan hotbed of writers and artists the like of which has not been seen since Dorothy Parker et al. held forth at the Algonquin Round Table, but that would just be a bunch of bullshit I made up because I would like a friend who lives near me and you'd probably figure that out pretty quickly and get mad and leave.

I thought the Algonquin was a hotel in New York City. The round table was in the center of the hotel's restaurant.

Aw Spart, that's almost tempting! :)

But here's the nature of this city and my job.

I'm watching Growing up Gotti tonight (don't ask me why, I was) ... and at the end Victoria's going on a rant about a fashion spred our paper did for fashion week with her boys in it .. and that was a spred I did/worked on! I chuckled. I did the design and editing, I didn't do the content, so I'm safe.

Um, yes, it was. I was implying that we had an identical cultural attraction right here on the banks of the brightly burning Cuyahoga.

Actually, we used to: the glittering salon of literary lights, bookies, iron workers and off-duty firemen in O'Donnell's Tap House, but it's been years since I had so many drinks I was under the host.

Indeed. Every morning I wake up and say, "Now, what the hell have they done with the Statue of Liberty? Ooops, wait a minute, there we are.....I can see the chimney stacks down at LTV Steel -- it's all coming back to me now...."

Charlotte, NC.
Job market like Atlanta without the insanity of living in Atlanta.
Close to the Great Smoky Mountains.

Have you ever been to the American West? New Mexico is so beautiful. Don't know how easy it would be to find a job there, but there are days I think I'd gladly wait tables or scrub floors for a chance to see a Taos sunset every night. If I were single I'd have gone by now.

I love Manchester. If it wasn't for the work situation, I'd have moved there. I was living in North Wales, just 14 miles from Chester before we moved to the States.

Do they still have 'exclusively gay space' down by the canal, or have they seen sense and abandoned that particular bit of nonsense...?

Oooo.. whereabouts exactly in Wales? I was only over there last weekend. Are you originally British?

Canal Street area is still the 'Gay Village' but its not exclusively gay. Its a great night out down there.

Portland is great, if you don't mind the rain. I imagine Seattle is the same as far as weather goes if you want a bigger city in the Pacific NW. But the job market in Portland is the suckiest right now.

San Francisco...Or maybe...The City of 7 Hills.

Then there is Frisco (but don't call it that, it annoys the locals) as a good possible third choice.

And lastly, although these are a bit of a stretch, and I hesitate to mention them...Oakland or Berkeley.

Note how I am offering several choices rather than just one that is near me...like some selfish monkeys :(

I lived in Flint - lovely Flint on the Marsh... I'm originally from London though - have been in the States for 3 1/2 years.

I used to go with a couple of friends of mine, but there were a couple of bars that tried to make their places 'gay exclusive' - sounds like they abandoned that idea...
