They are Pomeranians.
They are about 5-7 pounds.
They have tiny little barks and are (atleast mine are) wonderful little pets you can take just about any place.
They are a trifle high maintenance as their fur needs to be brushed regularly, but they aren't big shedders if you do this.

Hard to image that somewhere back in that "thing's" genetic past are wolf ancestors.

You didn't include a "Feed It To My Cat" option...
i'd adopt five of them and just love them forever
btw i haven't voted yet

none of my cats are quite aware that my poms are dogs; they eat and sleep with both of them and will even groom them.

I'm glad I never thought of doing this years ago. A dog named "The Ugly Broad Tavern" just wouldn't have had much of a life, ya know?
i like the names "he's not here" or "come get some"

i am glad these pomeranians have provoked such important responses. there is something to be said about these creatures. something sensual.
in this profound quote, let 'her' represent the pomeranian:
the more i knew her the less predictable she seemed, the only constant was this frantic struggle to break through the barrier of her autism. and every action ended in error, guilt, repentance.
with this quote, we can finally understand the pomeranian.

Does the dog hate cats...and seek to kill them at every oportunity?
Do the cats hate dogs and seek to disfigure dog noses with wicked sharp kitty claws at every opportunity?
These things are important to know.
If the answers to the above are YES, then it won't be a relaxing living situation...but it could be interesting.
Have you "tested" the waters by introducing the dog and the cats?
NO ONE can give you accurate advice on this matter without knowing the specific pets involved and actually "testing" them together.
But MILLIONS of people own and coexist peacefully with both dogs and cats...and Millions don't.

Ack, my boyfriend has a dog (miniature pinscher) and I have a cat (felis domesticus assholious). We've done preliminary introductions. It's not gone well. I'm dreading the day when we actually co-habitate and are forced to do something official about the situation.
Short of keeping one of them sedated at all times, I have no idea what we're going to do. I've actually considered calling in to "Pet Talk" on NPR to see what they suggest.
Let me know how it goes.
What kind of dog?

How about muzzling each animal and putting each animal in his or her own body sock of sorts and let them roll around on the floor together? That way, no one gets hurt. Eventually, they will fall asleep from squirming and become one big dog-cat-sock pile and snuggle.
And they all lived happily ever after.
The End. :)

There has never been a dog-cat cross that I know of. It's genetically impossible.
If you are successful, be sure to post pictures; they ought to be adorable.

I used to know someone with one of these. His name was Pepper; he was an older pom. He'd come into the room and, if he made eye contact, bark in the *most* adorable possible way (kinda like "blerf!! blerf!!") and turn around in circles like a top. He had very stinky breath due to some teeth problems, which wasn't very nice... but otherwise Pepper was a sweet doggie.
I chose "other", and to further explain, I would say that I would "keep a semi-distant friendly but professional distance". [eta: distantly :o ]
The only small dog I've ever made a true connection with is my aunt's toy poodle, Marcel, who is completely opposite to type, quiet, mellow and gentle, and loves nothing more than to sit on your lap and give you hand kissies, just like the little French gentleman he is. :o And he's very nice to the cats. :)

true story
i was waiting for a friend outside of her building chatting away on my cell phone when BAM out of nowhere a guy comes walking by with two poms that had MAJOR ATTITUDE problems. Anyway the little dogs were giving me major bad vibes -- I KNOW. The guy kept walking by over and over and i kept telling my friend that the poms were giving me "the evil eye and bad vibes" Then the owner of the dogs turns around and gives me a look like ^^^ yeah he looked just like that ^^^^^
FLASH FORWARD TEN MINUTES
My friend who has no idea about this thread or the poms that had just stolen my soul and she blurts out "DID I TELL YOU ABOUT MY MOM'S FRIENDS POMERIAN THAT JUST DROPPED DEAD"
How freaky is that?

my grandma has two.
they are annoying and chase my poor kitties around when she comes over (she cant go anywhere without them).
my dad always wants to put them in the microwave "for a few seconds, just to see what happens"
my grandma won't let him. so he puts scorpions from the backyard/house in the microwave instead...

^^^ the second dog from the left looks like Atticus, the pet I bought for my golden retriever, Karma. He's half Pomeranian, half shi-tzu. We call him a shitzeranian. He's very sweet and smart, and a major pain whenever anyone knocks on the front door.
However, when I googled "shitzu-pomeranian," all I got was this fellow:
