Review something. Review anything.
Review the TV shows you watch, like this guy (http://mattzollerseitz.blogspot.com/) does.
Review a movie you saw or a book/magazine you read. Review your latest appliance purchase, or a game you just got and can't stop playing. Outdo the infamous Henry Raddick's (http://www.amazon.com/gp/cdp/member-reviews/AA9IP6AYACFK5/002-5339429-5924863) reviews. Review the CD you've had in rotation for three solid months. Review a car you test-drove, or a fabulous new pair of shoes you're in love with.
Review something just for Frieda, if you wish. It's her forum, and she loves to shop. :p

I love the central city library of Rotterdam! One of the best places to spend an afternoon. Right now there is an exhibition of strange collections. Among others: a collection of 1300 flyswatters, 700 different packages of chewing gum, 1236 cat whiskers and examples of all species of ladybirds that live in the Kralingse Bos but one.
The library has its own theatre, a music library, where you can listen to music and borrow cd's, lp's and dvd's, and a restaurant. :)
At night it looks like this

The red neon text on top of the building says: "Alles van waarde is weerloos", a quote from Lucebert. Translation: Everything of value is defenseless

There is a spot on the east bank of the Willamette River just outside OMSI under the Marquam Bridge that has a beautiful view of downtown Portland. Every time I am there, I see a jewel-box of a city. At dusk, with the glow of the sun still lingering behind the west hills, all the lights of the tall buildings reflect into a glassy river, as well as the arches of the other bridges. The river flows quietly northward towards the Columbia and on out to the Pacific.
It's very pretty, especially in the summer, and I feel a sense of place, contentment and home that I've never really felt elsewhere.

Beck's The Information: don't give up. He's in there.
The Decemberists' The Crane Wife: not so much. I'm loyal, I'll keep trying.
The Who's Endless Wire: should I really have to try so hard? Yes, I guess I should.
The Beatles' Love: despite an armload of natural suspicion, I will definitely ingest something mood-enhancing and see what dim lights and 5.1 surrround do for it. Report to follow.

Jindabyne.
Hackneyed script ("What happened out there?") and the storyline was predictable in places. Why didn't they explore further the reasons why the group stayed on fishing? And I am way past being challenged by depictions of Aborigines living in clean and modern housing "just like us". Ugh.

this thing rocked, it's fascinating, horrifying and strange and cool at the same time. i'm always a sucker for organs and diseases in little jars.. this is the same but then in real human bodies folded wide open, they have cutouts, bodies playing volleyball, beautifully lit arteries prepared as little underwater plants..
it's pretty weird to stand in front of what has been a human being, with only muscle tissue exposed.. or a cutout of the male reproductive organs, or smoker's lungs that are black and grey.. or the nervous system..
what can i say.. if it gets near you, make sure that you go and visit! :)
oh, and get internet tickets.. i avoided a 2 hour queue..

I just saw "Notes on a Scandal" and thought that Judi Dench was great. A very absorbing film, definitely worth seeing.

The Great Ecstasy of Robert Carmichael
A (very) low budget movie set and filmed entirely in the town where I grew up. I was warned that it was a bit heavy going but NOTHING could prepare me for the most horrific rape scene I've ever seen in a movie.
It has stayed with me for a few days now... very very upsetting!
I would not recommend it at all unless
a) That kind of movie does it for you
b) You live / lived / grew up in Newhaven, East Sussex

If you're looking for a new sitcom to watch this spring, I'd suggest "The Winner" which is coming out on Fox March 4. First, it features a guy named Glen Abbott, who's played by Rob Corddry from "the Daily Show" which really ought to be all I need to say. Second, he's an awkward, late-blooming (read: middleaged) gentleman who is finally growing up-it makes me feel better about myself right now. God, I'm glad I'm a woman-at least my future has cats...lots of cats.

My son's favorite Beatles song is "I want you" slightly disturbing but better than the "Eleanor Rigby" Phase. He was not really impressed with "love"
I find Google the best of all search engines, however, the English version seems to have vanished from my computer.

The new show on FX - "The Riches" was really great. And it was mostly uninterupted by stupid commercials because of whoever was paying for it. Thank you. Can't wait until next week!!! It's about a new, unknown family (gypsies) moving into a wealthy neighborhood (the true owners of the house were killed after an accident - great accident scene!!!) with quirky neighbors and a very heavy past hanging over the new family. The plot seems overused but this cast is awesome and I think the storyline will be addictive.

Finally took myself to see Pan's Labyrinth today. One of those movies during which you slowly screw yourself up into an ever tighter ball, and then continues to be realer than the real world long after you emerged blinking into the daylight.
^^ Thanks. *checking out the evening schedules*
I think going to the theater permits a film to fully flower.
At home while watching The Departed on DVD, is this just me, but how many times will it take for disapating distractions so the story makes sense? The theater might not improve this film.

I am reviewing the drink I just bought - Organic Raw Kombucha of the "Multi Green" variety.
Usually, I'm a big fan of the whole "superfood" line of drinks. They've got everything you I could possibly want:
-More fruit than I would eat in a week
-Lots of delicious "extracts" such green tea and echinacea, for extra health and self-righteousness (when your friends can't pronounce the ingredients in your super-healthy drink)
-Essential vitamins and minerals (No, of course it's not just sugary fruits...I swear the vitamins are in there. *hides label*)...and some things you might not want:
-Chlorella (http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/imagsmall/chlorella.jpg) (Mmmm...smells like pond water.)
-Blue Green Algae (http://coris.noaa.gov/glossary/bluegreen_algae_186.jpg) (Taste the rainbow, or at least the photosynthetic pigment)
But all in all, these drinks have satisfied me (read: not made me gag and recoil in disgust).
UNTIL NOW.
Upon opening my Organic Raw Kombucha, which looked scarily green and soupy, I was greeted with a sour, vinegar-y smell. I told myself that this was normal, and that I was sure it would be fine. My olfactory organs rebelled, waging chemical warfare on my brain in an attempt to convince it to abandon its decision, but to no avail.
I then made a horrible decision: I drank the ORGANIC RAW KOMBUCHA.
Before I finish my review, I would like to mention that Kombucha has many medicinal purposes and has amazing anti-cancer properties. This does not change the fact that it smells like fermented bacteria vomit. Which, ironically enough, IT IS.
I'll skip all the gory details, but let's just say that a lot of gagging and spluttering ensued. The bottle of Organic Raw Kombucha was promptly sealed in a lead container and sent to the local sewage treatment plant.
I would not recommend this drink to anyone, unless it was to be used in an elaborate plot for revenge.
http://cleanplateclubnyc.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/07/kam%20drink.JPG
^ ^ I have no logical explanation for why that bottle is half-empty, except if the Kombucha was being used as drain cleaner.

http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/3851/lorealglamshinecreamjk4.jpg
there's colors with sparkles and plain nude colors.
i have two:
- Sweet Nude (no. 100): perfect neutral color, for everyday, office, etc
- Rose Crystal (no. 200): this one has tiny sparkles in it and looks like a pink gloss.
both work well with my very light skin tone.
they're not long-lasting ones so they won't survive a meal, but they apply like a lipbalm and moisturize like one too. you can use the cap as a tiny mirror, handy!
oh, and it says that they have a plumping effect-- not on me though.

http://www.cafedelaplage-hyeres.com/
went there to have dinner. it's a beach restaurant with a view of the bay and the island of Porquerolles. during the evening we saw the big red full moon rise over the island, awesome!
place has clean toilets, and excellent food, both fish and traditional meat dishes.
i had:
La Mer Capricieuse - salad with smoked salmon, smoked red tuna, scampis in lemon olive oil and rocket lettuce
Gigot d'agneau - thym lamb
all dishes (both fish and meat) were served "brochette" style, on a stick, with a potato gratin thingy and vegetables. mmmmMMMMMMmmmmm! :)
one thing-- it's right next to the Toulon-Hyères airport .. so there'll be an airplane landing over your head once every 1,5 hours! i wasn't too bothered since i live close to the airport and i'm used to this kind of thing.. but it might freak others out.

<img width='750' src=http://i9.tinypic.com/645o5mc.jpg>
A guy here at work brings in pies. This week it's blackberry.
I have modified the pie from its original format by placing a slice of it on a plate and microwaving it for 30 seconds. I have also added a scoop of Dreyers Grand Vanilla Bean Ice Cream:
http://www.dreyers.com/images/flavorImages/1633p.jpg
It's luscious and yummy. The crust is flaky yet substantial, providing a tender base. The warm body of the pie has melted and melded with the ice cream to form a luxuriously creamy and sweet, yet tart sauce on my plate that I'm going to lick up, despite being in the middle of my office.
<img width='750' src='http://i12.tinypic.com/5y1uivl.jpg'>
But for the seeds that are currently wedging between my teeth, I would give it a 10 out of 10. Instead it's a 9.

He is not so well suited for housework, another nit I will someday discuss with the manufacturer.
So far he has cost us $450 in vet bills, which is considerably less than the cost of having a baby. I feel that we are ahead and overall I give him 9 stars out of 10. I'm still trying to get over that little incident with my grandmothers china hutch.

A beautiful, talented young lady!!! Good luck to her!!! It was also interesting listening to the program - I've never heard the Dutch language spoken before. Some of the people spoke really fast (the tall blond lady/hostess) but a few others were calmer and I was sort of figuring what they were saying.

Craig Ferguson. :o
I won't subject him to the indignity of applying anything so banal as a numbers rating system. He is simply brilliant. How he can do pretty much the same thing every night, and find little subtle twists to make you laugh aloud again and again, and connect with his guests, all of them, in ways that are just miraculous to watch (the show with Julie Delpy, for example - wow - and Alfred Molina, and tonight with Eric Idle) - and make all the other late night talk show hosts' - even (forgive me) Conan O'Brien's, though to a lesser degree - banter and humor seem strained and a bit (or more than a bit) stale...
My only complaint is that he's on too late to watch every night. Not his fault. (I tried for awhile, but it makes getting to work on time impossible!)
Ahhh, Crrrrraig. You and your cute little bunny tail.
Oh - and it doesn't hurt that he reminds me a little of Dinz. :)

she's amazing, isn't she? i really hope she's going to be a big star, her performance gave me goose bumps all over. even though she's so young she knows how to tell the story of the song.
the blond lady and the guy that host the show are both singers themselves
the guy is Gerard Joling, he's a pop singer (mostly dutch bar stuff nowadays), the lady is Nance Coolen -> she was girl singer in Twenty-4-Seven in the 90's (see eurodance video in the pub thread). this is her last song from 2002:

I've seen many of his movies already, but I had never gotten around to seeing that one. After about a year of it being saved on my tivo, I finally got around to it last night. I only wish I had seen it sooner. Only Sellers could have pulled off that roll. Great, all around great.

I found this recipe online, and I'm hoping someone will make it and let us know how it is. If none of the Aussies will do it, maybe CJ will substitute Marmite for us.
Vegemite Milkshake
Vegemite
Ice-cream
Milo (Australian Chocolate sprinkle Energy drink)
Lite-white Milk
Two Eggs, Nutmeg,
Two Stock cubes or Bullion Cubes
(Beef or Chicken),
One Very-Hot-Chilli-Pepper.
First put two tablespoons of Good Aussie MILO
(Chocolate drink mix) in the bottom of a Milkshake Glass.
Lightly spread one thin layer of Vegemite over the Milo to seal in the Chocolate flavour
Briskly Whip two eggs and pour on top of the vegemite layer
Take one ice-cream scoop and, while still in the ice-cream scooper-spoon, cover generously with Vegemite so it is completely black
Add Milk in slowly and mix in the stock-cubes
Carefully drop the Ice-cream scoop into glass from a height of 13 inches* (precisely)
Sprinkle with nutmeg or top with cream
Take Very-Hot-Chilli-Pepper and chew it VERY SLOWLY so as to completely numb any sensation in your throat
Enjoy your fair-dinkum Aussie Vegemite Milkshake
Great at Breakfast or to ease that mid-afternoon hunger-cravings
WARNING!!
* 13 inches is the proven scientific height that lets the Vegemite ice-cream scoop perfectly diffuse into the Milk.
Any Lower and the vegemite will sink.....any higher and the Glass will explode!!

It was quick; completed in 2.5 hours
It was easy; possible to open quizzes and the final exam in new tab so it had "open book" tests.

I'm reviewing Ito En's "Teas' Tea" in Lemongrass Green.
It comes in a nicely modern, squared-off bottle in a probable nod to the Japanese habit of maximizing storage capacity while minimizing shelf space. The tea itself is crisp, with a slightly bitter sharpness, and it is refreshingly unsweetened. However, the most prominent aspect of the taste, which one assumes the company would attribute to the lemongrass, is eeeeever so slightly reminiscent of the scent of Pine Sol in the nursing home where you used to visit your great-step-uncle-in-law, always in fall and winter when it was ugly and cold outside and you were least equipped to deal with the clash between Christmas carols and a long, slow death.
The haiku on the bottle is excellent, though.

Perfect ballance of sweat to mint - yummers.
And to quote their website:

Now Wigan's famous for it pier
And stars of the music halls
But I think the nation's favourite
Is Uncle Joe's Mint Balls
Famous names have bought them
Throughout the universe
They say Queen Victoria
Always had some in her purse
Scott of the Antarctic bought some
Then to the Pole he went
He became the first explorer
With central heating in his tent
General Custer sucked one
As he made his famous stand
And I do believe Napoleon
Had one in his hand
Next time you're gazing at the Moon
Just take notice how it glows
Thats because Neil Armstrong
Left a tin of Uncle Joe's.

I'm reviewing Ito En's Teas' Tea in Green Jasmine. It's a much better effort than the Lemongrass I reviewed earlier. I figured it would be a losing proposition, but ever the optimist, I couldn't resist the promise of finding a good unsweetened tea in a bottle. I probably died searching for El Dorado in a past life, too. Compared to the lemongrass flavor, the Green Jasmine is similarly crisp, also unsweetened, with a nice, understated bitter note. The scent of night-blooming jasmine is quite faint, but the taste is wonderfully prominent, much more so than in similar teas served hot. Drinking it is like breathing deeply of the twilight air at the botanical gardens when you were seventeen and kissing someone you shouldn't have been under the arbor next to the epiphyte room. With tongue.
Because anything true is a paradox, it wouldn't pair well with dark chocolate.
Dollars to donuts I buy another bottle tomorrow. Virtue be damned.

been using this stuff for some time now. this cream is awesome to fix those dry, bleeding hands from cold weather. you dont need much of it and it stays on, it leaves some sort of film that's not greasy and won't rub off on clothing.
the smell is kind of weird, it smells of dirt, kind of like potting soil or clay. very peculiar and it makes me sneeze once or twice really loud every single time i use it. but that's the only disadvantage of this cream! :)
currently sold out on the webshop here (http://www.thebodyshop.com/bodyshop/browse/product_detail.jsp?productId=prod5950023&categoryId=cat20073), but probably still available in stores!

I'm reviewing something that helps you sleep. Melatonin, a naturally occuring substance in our bodies that helps us fall asleep. Unfortunately it tends to lessen with age. Made from vegetables, over-the-counter melatonin will help you get your sleep patterns back on track. The best part is there are no narcotics.
Personally it helps me feel much better but I can't take it more than a few days in a row before it makes me feel too drowsy and bogged down. So it is a perpetual on again, off again cycle.

The Cole Haan Village Medium Convertible Tote (http://images.smarter.com/blogs/colehaan.jpg). Not in yellow, but that doesn't really matter.
This bag is HEAVY. It is so HEAVY that it can't keep up its waistband without a belt anymore. The belt does nothing else that I can really see, other than add weight. The incredibly heavy fittings in the front pockets open and close to keep your cell phone from leaping out like salmons spawning upstream. Inexplicably, the bag has both carry-handles that can't be removed and a strap that can. The carry-handles are not designed to allow you to put the bag over your shoulder using them, EVER. Perhaps if you are wearing a fitted jersey and freshly diuresed, but certainly not while you are wearing a coat of any structure or weight. So you take off the strap. Undaunted, the bag remains heavy, and you are thereafter forced to carry it around in your hand or over your wrist until death do you part.

REVIEW: My Most Recent Walk Away from My Computer
This is the perfect Walk Away From My Computer for one to two people. I live in Sydney, time, is limited but this little walk leaves a very small time foot print on the watch and light enough to move into a daily schedual every day if you must. Only thing, I wish it came with a little more existential angst of the 1940's leftbank variety but I still rate it because it comes with thoughfulness. Just leave it on the boil for 10 minutes and you should be done. If you don't use your walk away from the computer often enough you may void the warrantee and the product will become bland. This simple walk is easy clean up and is there when you need it again and isn't as heavy as the more longer and sustained walk i did recently around New Year eve down the coast. It turns thoughts perfectly, you have to play with the settings but I found my perfect thought amount hovers around the dusk time on 3 coffees and my daily dose of baked beans. If previous stimulation has not been given prior to walk, the walk can seem meandering and meaningly. I recommend eating well, getting up early, and thinking before going on the computer to maximise the benefit from this type of walk later in the day.
4/5 stars.

I am going to review the French Press method of coffeemaking vs. the Cuisinart Grind and Brew coffeemaker, since I got a French Press for Christmas.
I have used the Cuisinart for years, and despite it being rather tedious to clean properly, it makes the best coffee available to the moderately lazy. By contrast, the French Press method requires that you grind your beans separately by hand, and results in just about as much cleanup effort. Method to method, I found that the French Press did not produce superior coffee. In fact, if you were to use preground coffee (as most people do with a French Press), you would end up with inferior coffee to that had fresh out of the Grind and Brew. Also, if you need to make coffee for more than one person at once, the Grind and Brew will get you out the door sooner.
I'll keep the French Press around for when I want just one cup of coffee for myself in the afternoon or something. Other than that, I'm not impressed.

I watched Fast Food Nation last night about meant to put it here. The fast food shit, the literal shit, I had some idea about, but the immigrant exploitation was eye- opening. I logged onto the ol' computer this afternoon and saw this:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23212514
"Federal officials suspended operations at Westland/Hallmark after an undercover video surfaced showing crippled and sick animals being shoved with forklifts."
I'm grateful for the "underground" video, which was made by whom? Maybe one of those groups our government has deemed "terrorist?" Cause you know how we are programmed for that word to incite so much fear we're immobilized and immediately put on edge.
This is not, by far, the worst of it. The slaughterhouse depiction in the movie was not as graphic, thankfully, as it could have been. The cows raised to be slaughtered were kept in a field, albeit crammed together, which is humane in comparison to the reality of the other factory farms where 97% of our meat comes from.
There's a freeze up coming kids. Operation Ivy warned us about it in.. 1989.

The Fall (http://thefallthemovie.com/)
Slightly too long, but other than that, a rare gem. Good sound, visually lush, fantastic, funny, exciting, and painful in turns. It's like something Roald Dahl might have written with adults in mind-- after watching The Wizard of Oz synched with Dark Side of the Moon. The ways in which the story belongs both to the man telling and the child hearing are wonderful little surprises -- what he means by "Indian" and what she pictures are two very different things indeed, and she visualizes Charles Darwin as a scrawny nerdling in a fake fur, red peacock-patterned coat, talking to his monkey muse like a lunatic.
In general I don't like movies with children in them, but the small girl in this one is perfection -- totally believable in a really difficult and absolutely pivotal part.
As soon as I saw the man throw the slow coils of rope in the beginning seconds, I knew it would be good.

I just saw Wanted and Wall-E within about 12 hours of each other.
Wanted is better than I expected. Super violent, lots of yummy irony. Excellent car chases. Hollywood hasn't ruined Bekmambetov (who also directed those Russian vampire flicks, Night Watch and Day Watch) -- yet. James McAvoy is pretty good, and Angelina Jolie does well enough for once. And she is so lovely and weird - works for the movie.
The first half of Wall-E, near silent, is essentially a Buster Keaton film. It's also far more nihilist than anything you'll see in Wanted. Second half is more traditional Pixar fare, nice enough.
I feel sort of like I've been in a blender.

nailpolish:
Rimmel London new 60 seconds nailpolish with pro-cision brush (bla bla)
http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/5042/rimmelnailswk8.jpg
www.rimmellondon.com
cheap nailpolish (EUR 6,99) for girls on a budget, like myself.
the pro-cision brush does what it says, i thought the name was just another far-fetched sales promise but it actually works! what a pleasant surprise. painting my toenails, i managed to get all the nailpolish on my nails, didn't get anything on my skin at all. which is amazing for me because i don't have a very stable hand.
having painted your toenails however, i would recommend waiting another 60 seconds after the 60 seconds advertised before putting on your socks. it doesn't dry in 60 seconds, unless you sit outside in the sun or apply a very thin layer.
they have cool range of colors, some sparkly, some matte, and an additional range of nail care products. a base coat, top coat and some nail repair ones.
i tried the following colors:
330: Highland: a nice chique dark red matte
400: Starlet: sparkly purple-ish pink
530: Stardust: brownish golden sparkly
it stays on at least 2 weeks on the toes, shorter on the fingernails (10 days with the top coat).
even though it doesn't do what it promises (dry in 60 seconds), i give this nailpolish a high score because of the cheap ass factor and the brush.

1408 (film starring John Cusack):
The short story whence this screenplay hails is one of two pieces of writing I actually had to skip over parts of in order to remain relatively undefiled (the other being a torture scene in American Psycho). It's a simple concept -- the haunted hotel room -- but the story is very chilling and the movie does a great job of rendering the sense of absolute futility and dismay felt by the protagonist, and sympathetically by the reader/viewer impotently watching his struggle. And then there's the added bonus of openly watching John Cusack for the better part of two hours.

The egg salad sandwich that my 11-year-old son just made me had a nice egg-to-mayonnaise ratio, with peppery balancing notes of dijon mustard and tiny flecks of raw onion. I did have to salt it a just little more once I took a bite, but the surprising addition of poppy seeds lifted the sandwich out of the run-of-the-mill zone. I believe that in the future, the concoction would benefit from some roasted sunflower seeds as well as he continues to develop this specialty of his.

easy to use liquid in a pen with painbrush to apply it with. twist the end of the pen until you hear a click to make the stuff come out into the brush.
dries up nicely, no flaking or pancake effect. lasts at least 8 hours and even longer if you don't rub it off or walk around in the rain.
hides even the worst bags under your eyes if you apply layer over layer. perfect.
9,5 out of 10, because the brush gets fwked easily.

Lipton Pure Leaf Red Tea with Pomegranate and Blueberry.
I enjoy red roobioos tea. I adore pomegranates. And blueberries are little lumps of anti-mutagenic ellagic acid joy. Therefore, this tea must be mislabeled. It is a blight on the name of tea. And pomegranates. And blueberries. It is a pestilence among the beverage community. One sip, and it's clear the main ingredient is postage stamp glue.
In a word: hideous.
However, Happy Go Lucky is an interesting little movie. It sneaks up on you rather effectively, when you think it's over in the corner being silly. Whoever wrote it knows a thing or two.

watched the movie Zwartboek (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0389557/) again yesterday, still stunned from it. this movie shows the background of the messages of every Verhoeven film-- violence, skin, gore, good vs evil and anti-militarism. based on facts, what in his previous films was seen as unneccesary violent and graphic, turns out to be the how it really was in Verhoeven's childhood and that of many other dutch people born in the first 40 years of the previous century. and Carice van Houten is hot, obviously ;) :p

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Originally, I was going to say this film is Forrest Gumpesque in its meaningless, pointless sentimentality and parish newsletter philosophy, but on reflection I have to amend that slightly and say that this film IS "Forrest Gump". Except the kid is born old rather than stupid, and "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you going to get" being changed to "You never know what's coming around the corner" or some such, it's Forrest Friggin' Gump.
However it's a fine example of what can almost be achieved with modern make-up and special effects.
I don't know what F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote, but I suspect it wasn't this.
Cate Blanchett is only just mesmerising enough to get one through without thinking one has totally wasted an afternoon.

I am reviewing my experience not seeing the movie In Bruges.
While it looked like an interesting enough movie I have already spent enough time/money at the theatre this past week thank-you so not seeing it immediately deprived me of the opportunity to tut about the tickets going up a dollar again and then forking over more money than I would have thought possible for ticket + snacks. However, the spare time it left me with was inevitably devoted to avoiding doing anything productive which in turn brought on cravings for toast; these were still many times easier to ignore than the temptations of overpriced junk food at the cinema. In this respect not seeing In Bruges was satisfying in a goody-goody sort of way that made me feel as if I was keeping some New Year's resolution I hadn't made but probably should have if all those healthy-living sort of movements had anything to say about it. On the other hand, curiosity is comparable to the stronger forces of nature and is generally acknowledged to go around killing cats and that sort of rubbish, so it probably wasn't a good idea to tease it as I have done because every time I hear/see about the movie I wonder what it was like.
So, overall some positives and negatives, some time afterward I am beginning to regret it just a little bit, so I give it 6/10.

I did see In Bruges and give it a 10 out of 10. Wonderful dark humor, great performances. One of my favorite movies of the year.
I absolutely agree about Benjamin Button. I couldn't put my finger on why I didn't like it, but I give HFox's review a 5 out of 5 - he nailed it. In fact, the more I think about spending money on that movie, the madder I get.
Saw Rachel Getting Married, and, as with just about any Jonathan Demme film, I enjoyed it very much, and found it surprisingly affecting. Character rather than plot-driven. Anne Hathaway deserves her Oscar nomination. 9 out of 10, and the soundtrack, as always, is wonderful.

It may be free of toluene, formaldehyde, and DBP. It may come in lovely colours with even more lovely flights-of-fancy descriptions. The packaging may be appealing. But as a nail polish it performs very, very badly, chipping in large bits at the slightest provocation (even with base and top coat). And it costs two to three times what you'd pay for ordinary carcinogenic nail polish -- for the frequency that I actually apply stuff to my hands, I'll take the risk, thanks.

If you're talking intense emotional content, today's an 11 on a scale of 10. If you're talking contentedness, it's a -2. If you're talking tea consumed, it's an 8. On the whole, I'll be glad when it's over. In the meantime all I can do is sit with it, and it's lousy company :o

The expressions, ranging from smug to disaffected, are an apt and sophisticated commentary on late 20th century youth culture, bent on thumbing its nose at the 60s hippie establishment as the New Man. The silver ribbon wends its way around both couples, referencing an emerging preoccupation with fast and easy money, even as it taunts them with incomplete coverage and threatens total vulnerability. The tiny white ring peeking from the bottom ege of Mr. Ulvaeus' tacky camisole tips forward almost imperceptibly with the curve of his resplendent belly, both bragging an excessive, postwar caloric intake, and inviting us to pull the tawdry veil of paper wealth away, like the sanitary cover on a box of expired low-sodium "chicken" broth. They firmly revert to the old gender roles assigned with regard to body hair removal/flaunting, yet they are powerless to fully abandon the freedom of the male mullet and the allure of overpriced hair laquer. The red toenail polish, pointing left, represents a subtle but marked embrace of socialist ideals; even the nude toes pointing right, in lingering deference to conservative norms, smack Phyllis Schlaffly in the nose with their tarty coupling to the wanton use of the first-generation fake tan.
One can only ask: Are they us, or are we them?
This photo goes to 11.

Here we see Abba, naked in a sense. They have posed to offer us themselves naked, posed to offer themselves sexually, and yet they have reneged. They revoke their offer through a covering of foil, which both negates their nudity and shows us them bound together as the couples they are. They are together, naked, standing as couples do, touching and half-facing, suspended at the edge of embrace inside the binding while we are outside it, excluded, and left only to look on from a distance. Employing the classic tease, "come here, go away", they are sexually available yet sexually unavailable, displayed yet hidden. The foil has indeed foiled our ambitions. But this sexual foiling has so far only afforded an acceptablility as the not-too-sexual image. However the foil is not only a barrier visually, but secondly and perhaps more essentially, by its unsensuousness as a material, tactilely. Now we see the usage of foil as a erotic material is a kind of malapropism, but one of which Abba must be well aware, and we in turn must be aware of their awareness, thus establishing the use of foil not as accident, but as irony. Here they speak to us on another level above the half-grubbiness, half-kitschiness of the production line fan image, saying to us that we too see the absurdity of all this. As Abba we acknowledge the absurdity of being Abba and all that Abba is, both to you and to us, and indeed, on face-value, as a method of relationship between us and you. But here we find resolution. By acknowledging the absurd as such, it finds an intactness and sensibleness as the known absurd object. We can handle it again without the fear of spontaneous disintegration before us under critical analysis, and without the fear we would be exposed in turn by its exposure, secure that we play the game as Abba have played it, we are free again to like Abba - if only for the absurdity of doing so.
I'm bucking for the Last Psychiatrist's gig.

Where the Wild Things Are is the most realistic movie I've ever had the misfortune to watch.
It was beautiful, thoughtfully written, well-acted (the child especially), and I understood the connection to the original book, but I cried over it for an hour and never, ever want to see it again.

The story behind this awesome photo (http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/grandmas-superhero-therapy-18) is suitably awesome itself.

The modern-day Sherlock brought to you by the BBC is delicious. You can watch some full episodes of it (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/sherlock/watch.html) on pbs.org until late December.
They've cast both a perfect Sherlock and a perfect Watson. Lovely.
This guy (http://www.justinbinek.com/) is wrapped up is jazz so only look if you like jazz. I had the pleasure of meeting him Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised by his talent and good humor.
