another post-band night haze.....

y'all wanna play by play???? even if you don't you're getting one anyway....

as some of you know, yesterday i was not in the *ahem* best of moods... matter of fact, i was downright pissed at the collective world.... but

then there was alcohol. and it was good.

so we start off as usual, happy hour, and i'm still with a quite sour disposition... an hour passed--- and there are several beer casualties.... our lovely barmaid (no, not wallflower, i'm gettin' there) takes notice that i am pounding the beer a little more than normal, and she starts bringing them to me two at a time... this becomes the second bright spot in my otherwise toilet swimming day (the first was a brief conversation i had with some random nebraskite who shall remain nameless but allegedly never gets to eat lunch)

and time passes, several more beer casualties go down and go down hard.... i am starting to simmer down, both because of the alcohol and the impending first pitch of the LSU-Cal St. Fullerton game at the CWS... god i love baseball....

and now i'm in a decent place, the beer has calmed the raging demons, and i find myself in my element-- the complete tri-fecta: 1. beer; 2. baseball; 3. barmaids. life isn't looking so bad anymore....

then it gets kicked up a notch: fingernails on my back that i didn't see coming....

enter the wallflower. you read that right. the wallflower.

she is standing right there, time has stood still, and she is scratching my back and saying "hey when did you get here-- i didn't see you come in"... the words are just hanging there, resonating in my mind... (and now of course i'm kicking myself for not sitting up front-- we're in the back for the game)... so we exchange a few idle words and she said "damn i wish i could watch the game with y'all, but they're going to make me work"--- yes, generic enough, but keep in mind, this is unsolicited conversation from THE WALLFLOWER who talks less in public than i do when i'm sober...

life has now just significantly improved....

and then there was baseball (and more beer)... LSU started off great but then ended up getting their asses kicked.... that sobered me up a little bit and that turned out to be a good thing....

time for a change of venue

but as we are leaving, the planets must have been in alignment or something because she is standing right in the doorway as we are leaving (which should not be happening considering where here stations were)-- and then she gives me this big hug (just me, not steve) which, again, is another first, and while i'm recooperating from that and attempting to remain standing under my own power, she asks if we are coming to the block party tomorrow (which now is actually in about 4 hours) and when we say "of course", she says that she's working inside and to be sure to come and see her at some point (2 kick-ass bands are playing outside and there will be beer trucks outside and a bikini contest)... like i wasn't going to find her anyway, but i said that i would be sure to....

now we leave to see what's going on next door--- because we hung out last week with the bouncer guy at the bar (and because we are in there every week anyway), we get in w/out paying a cover, much to the dismay of the people behind us who have to pony up 10 bucks each (another bright spot to a night that is already making me have to get a stronger Rx for my contacts).... we play some pool (and i actually played well for a change) and we talk a little shit with some of the other people there (this is steve's element-- i was just along for the ride at that point) and he starts talking A LOT of shit with the shot girls-- so after he ends up buying several shots, he's pretty well loaded (and i'm so much on an endorphine high at this point, i'm still relatively sober despite all the beer)

so that turns stale and, after milling around to say hello to those lovely barmaids, we again seek a change of venue.... and in an unprecedented move, we go BACK next door where we started. we never do that. by now it's about 12:00 or something and it's an atypical slow night....

and guess who sees us: yes, the wallflower

when we walk in, one of our other lovelies grabs us to sit at one of her tables (she had a slow night and only wanted us for our generous tip)--- the wallflower sees this, knows what this girl is doing, and she and i have a silent conversation just with our eyes--- she smiles, i smile, and she indicated that she would be over in a minute.... i'm absolutely fvcking dying inside at this point....

so time passes, several more beers are consumed, and then she comes up behind me, again with the fingernails... *swoon* and she hangs out at the table for what must have been 10 minutes just talking, just being lovely, just with me eating up every minute of it, then back to work... best thing is, the whole time i didn't slur and i didn't act like a total drunk jackass (i know my limitations).... a little bit after she left, steve had had enough and it was time to go (and by the time we finished the pitcher i was pretty loaded myself) and then we left....

BUT

before we left, i made it a point to seek her out again to tell her goodbye and, for that little effort, i got yet another hug which just about killed me-- and the strict instruction to find her tomorrow and say hey.... and then that was it, capped off with THAT smile from THAT face.....*sigh*

so guess what i'm doing today.....

so there you have monkeys-- probaby doesn't sound like much to y'all, but believe me, given the circumstances, it was quite bold and out of character, for both of us....

so my complete shit day turned to a pretty all around great night....

Everyone longs to have someone feel intensely for them, I think, particularly someone they find admirable. How heady to have such an effect on a person, just by going for a walk together!

ok, so last night was the block party that i mentioned in my chronicle yesterday (thanks for the compliment btw dC) and you all know that wallflower wanted me to come and say hello....

so i showed up. and my god was it packed out. and i hate crowds.

but i endured for the sake of the mission and had my get-a-good-base-going beers, watching a little baseball along the way (braves-mariners).... so far, so good, but i can tell it will be chaos in the joint, both inside and out...

and that's exactly what it was, complete random chaos, no one could get to the bathroom, no one could get a beer, and the poor lovelies were scrambling around like i have never seen before...

wallflower was not in good humor

so at the one point that i could talk to her for 4 seconds, i could tell that she was having a shit night so i told her to tell me where her tables were and i'd cover them for her while she took a break-- i said that would be easy for me to do b/c ii'm there so much i'm practically on the payroll now as it is.... that got a laugh and smile out of her, and that was it... i let her be b/c i knew that night was not the time to even attempt charm...

i'll live to see another day though....

digital prepress, i make film and matchprints
if you are not a print geek that probably means nothing, if you want the long answer i could tell you and bore everyone to death

i get digital files from customers that are created in InDesign, Quark Xpress, Pagemaker, Corel et al and i turn them into Post Script files that i print on an imagesetter that prints on film, i then process the film (either 8.5 x 11 or larger) the process is like developing photographic film, at the end you have a film negative that is used to make a plate that goes on an offset printing press and viola! you have printed stuff not lasers or copies or that kind of crappy thing but the real deal.
i also make film positives that are used to make screens for silkscreening on t-shirts.

aha ! i think this is what i paid a slew of money for when i had my digital images converted to make my note cards. they ended up with four "plates", three colors and black. is that what you do ?

I passed my exams. I got a 2:2. I'm not impressed.
But it doesn't count toward my final grade, and I learnt a lot about how to work next year. All is not lost. anyway, only 1 person got a first and 15 got 2:1's, I don't feel quite so bad after hearing that.

it's a really odd grading system.

70%+ is a first
60% to 69% is a 2:1
50% to 59% is a 2:2
40% to 49% is a third
and below that is a fail. so you only really need 40% to pass, (which is a lot harder than it sounds).

I got 50.5% overall which was 0.5% below the class average. So I'm not really too happy, I *just* scraped a 2:2 but well, it could be a lot worse. It was cos of my heinous contract paper on which i somehow scraped 41%. All my others were fairly decent 2:2's (which I'm already unimpressed with, considering I only got 1sts and 2:1's in all my essays bar one which was a high 2:2).

Anyway I learnt loads about how to study properly from this year which is the most important thing. I just went to get my modules for next year registered. Gonna do criminal (finally... YAY!) and land (booooo) as they are required for exemption from the CPE (law exam thingie), and then I chose computer law (technically it should be a 3rd year module but I'm allowed to do it and they are restructuring the departments so much that modules are disappearing all over the palce from year to year, so I'm going to do it while it's here), law of family and relationships (should be decent) and employment law (fvck knows why I chose THAT one, I regret it already).
