well, the piece of bone right under my little toe is fractured and it was looking all weird under the skin.. they tried to put it back in place but that didn't really work. my ankle is also very thick and swollen, but nothing is broken there.

one week in this cast, then x-rays again and another cast. it hurts. it's not so nice.

OK, vacation report.
Let's hope the power doesn't go out before I finish this as I don't want to write it more than once.
Sunday I didn't do much. Went in to the outdoor outfitter in Waynesville and got some moleskin which I promptly forgot to put in my first aid kit. More on that later.
Ate at Grannie's Chicken Palace and got some postcards of their place which some of you received.
Monday, I met Dana at Sugarlands Welcome Center in Great Smoky Mtns. NP for a day of hiking and exploring.
There were two Geezer Transport Machines already in the parking lot when I got there and another came in before Dana showed up so we got outta there.
Stopre at a big cascade called The Sinks. Big cascade going under a bridge and falling into a huge base pool. Dana said it was so deep they lost a car in there once and can't find it!
It's a fast flowing creek and I can imagine the recent rains probably made it even stronger.
btw, I'll post pics when I get 'em developed. Still a 20th century guy when it comes to photography.
After the sinks, we spent a good while visiting restored homesteads in the Cades Cove area. I was very impressed with the joinery and got some closeup pictures of many well constructed dovetail joints on the structure.
We hiked out to Abrams Falls for our long walk of the day. I had never seen Abrams before and it was raging! It was dropping considerably more water than usual. Dana pointed out several places in the creek below the falls where you can usually rock hop out for pictures. Not that day! No rocks were visible!
The lighting wasn't the best but we got some shots anyway just for a repreentation on the amount of water going over the falls.
Stopped by a restored grain mill on the way out and got to sample sorghum right out of the press. Made me want pancakes!
We said our goodbyes and I told her to meet Vickie and me next March with her family and we'd visit Biltmore Estate.
Just had a big power surge and heard a transformer blow so I'm gonna close for now and get this sent. Will post more later...

About a year later I happened to glance down at my feet and realized that one toe was veering off to the left in a way toes don't usually do. Only then did I realize it had been broken. Too late to do anything about it so I have one cockeyed toe which doesn't do anything for me other than provide a conversation piece when I'm barefooted...

Yup, dav, good advice. My ma had an undiagnosed thing like that and now her toe sticks up, permanent, and a girlfriend had to have an operation to pull her tendons back so she could wear normal shoes again after an accident she neglected a long time ago>

Or... scan each page, add her name and save as images (won't be a Word or equivalent doc but still correctable as an image. Copy whole thing to disk and hand it back to her, making it clear how you helped her out by salvaging it for her since a competent person would have typed it into a comp. doc in the first place and having you do so now would be a ridiculous waste of company resources ;)

Tuesday the 21st I didn't do much. Slept late, made pancakes for breakfast, took the trash to the collection center.
Thought about taking Mother Rbee to Cherokee to see the Museum of the Cherokee Indian, but I was on a budget so we went to Dillsboro to look over the craft shops. I was proud of myself for only spending around seven dollars on wild blueberry jam and postcards. Oh, and another seven for special blend coffee for Vickie.
Wednesday, we went to the Biltmore Estate. Anyone who read my trip report from last May knows how much I enjoy the Biltmore Estate. It never ceases to amaze me from a carpenter's point of view.
The winery took up a lot of my time as I came up with orders from co-workers as well as for myself. Spent almost $150 in there!
There was little evidence of the flooding that had occurred the week before although there were quite a few downed trees around the estate. We didn't go into Biltmore Village which was pretty hard hit. I didn't want to get depressed.
Thursday I hiked on a section of the Appalachian Trail to a rock formation named Charlie's Bunion. Eight mile hike round trip and well worth the walk!
I hiked in sandals as an experiment. I hadn't ever done that in the mountains, but thought it might feel better on my back rather than hiking in my big ole clonky hiking boots.
I like it! Not as much ankle support but the comfort level is well worth the trade off. Since I'm a pretty slow hiker anyway, I never had troubles with loose rocks or slippery mud. Only down side to it was a blister on my right heel which a bandaid had to remedy. It helped enough but I missed the moleskin I forgot to pack.
The views along the trail and at the Bunion were magnificent! Clear, blue skies, the trees are just now beginning to change so there's a lot of green but a hint of the colors to come.
Sheer drop offs at the Bunion made for great views all around.
I sat on the rock and had lunch and fired off a roll of film. I'll post some pics when they're developed.
Friday, did laundry so I wouldn't have to when I got home. Took Mother Rbee to a cabin some friends have restored.
150 year old cabin and they've done a great job in making it into a nice home! Very cozy and comfortable without compromising modern conveniences with the look of the place. I took pictures and will post.
They've been volunteering to help people affected by the floods and had many sad stories to tell. Many happy stories, as well, but it's been a rough month for the people in the mountains.
Drove home Saturday with clouds getting thicker the closer I got to Florida. Sunday we watched the street flood.

i *heart* france telecom, no really, i do, the fact that ive had no phone line and concequently no internet for the past week dosnt bother me at all. the fact that im now having to use mums pc and connection is not a problem, even if the keyboard settings are in english and i cant find any punctuation is not bothering me in the slightest. i mean, them telling me it wouldnt be working for another couple of weeks washed right over me, despite still having to pay line rental and internet connection. what utter darlings they are, im so happy that they went privatised.

oh and i also love the fact that my mum has an even slower internet connection than me, i didnt even know that this was possible. one again, i really adore france telecom.

Ok. Tests.

Mammogram done. First one ever and not as bad as I was led to believe. They squish it and it's over in moments. Then they squish the other one and it is done too. Then they change your position and squish them both again. No muss no fuss. Oh and the gorgeous little pasties they stick on are really attractive.

I am now drinking 36 ounces of water for an ultrasound. Oh I can't wait for that.

Ok Mammogram and ultrasound are both done.

The ultrasound lady was grumpy. I drank all that water and she made me go sit and wait until I was about to explode. I expected that part. She was ticked at me because at first my bladder wasn't full. She told me to go sit with my clothes until she could get back to me, but she wasn't sure when that would be.

Good Grief lady! You made me drink an extra bottle of water and then say you'll be back for me when you can get around to it? Hmmmm. Thank Goodness she wasn't the mammogram lady! I would have plates where my boobs used to be.

Dinz...I think I remember that part.

Daver...My Dad had colon cancer. I will be sure to have it done even if it is so "memorable". lol
