We finally got our boss to replace the really old chairs with new ones. The one he got me and another girl are even worse than the old ones. Hardly adjustable and no back support. So, he has to go exchange them and get better ones. He's so mad, but I don't even care!!
Gatsby

Desk chairs are the worst. I'm very picky.
melissa
01-05-2005, 06:33 PM
There were a few of us who had really bad chairs and we were about to start a mutiny unless we got new ones. It sounds so stupid, it's just a chair, but jeez! We spend up to 9 hours in it 5 days a week! It better be comfy and not cause back pain. At least.
Gatsby
01-05-2005, 06:35 PM
I agree. And there's a whole desk-chair heirarchy. In my old office, there were a few good chairs and a multitude of really bad ones. As soon as someone quit, people were racing over to steal their chairs. The people who had been there the longest had the comfy ones.

Awe! That is so sweet of you Melissa! And thank you. . . your sweet gesture reminds me of a friend of mine that was killed. He was a wonderful man. When he was in high school he was quiet and kept to himself, but he would observe others. He knew when a girl had bad self esteem and was being picked on. He would then order them flowers or balloons and hide while watching the secretary of the school give them to the selected girl. He would include a letter with it that would recognize all the special and unique qualities of the girl he chose to give flowers to. Thanks Melissa.
So how's the new chair working out? Did you get it put together?

LOS ANGELES - Hollywood glamour couple Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston (news) have split, Pitt's longtime publicist confirmed Friday.
"We would like to announce that after seven years together we have decided to formally separate," the couple said in a joint statement released by Pitt's publicist Cindy Guagenti. "For those who follow these sorts of things, we would like to explain that our separation is not the result of any speculation reported by the tabloid media. This decision is the result of much thoughtful consideration."
The couple didn't indicate if they planned to file for divorce, and Guagenti declined to comment beyond the statement.
The separation, first reported on People magazine's Web site, comes 4 1/2 years after the couple's Malibu wedding and after months of speculation that their marriage was in trouble.
Aniston has recently been photographed in public without her diamond-studded wedding ring, according to People, although the magazine said the couple had spent the New Year's weekend together on the Caribbean island of Anguilla with Aniston's former "Friends" co-star Courteney Cox (news) and her husband, actor David Arquette (news).
Pitt, 41, and Aniston, 35, have been together since being set up on a blind date in 1998. They were married in 2000 in a lavish wedding at a Malibu estate overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Some 200 people attended the wedding that included four bands, a gospel choir, fireworks and tens of thousands of flowers.
Part of Pacific Coast Highway was shut down to accommodate the influx of guests, which included actress Cameron Diaz (news) and most of Aniston's "Friends" co-stars.

I was seeing someone once, and noticed that my journal was moved from it's usual spot. I added an entry that would burn the hair off a wild boar. I finished it with "Did you find what you were looking for? Keep your F*CKING hands off me and my stuff and get out!"
I figured that if he read it, he would be noticeably shaken. I returned from the bathroom that very night and he was all red faced and shaking. I asked what was wrong, and he said nothing. The journal was moved again. I asked him to leave right then.

he should just let go, but i'm willing to bet his heart is in the right place.
it could be damaged cause understanding and misinterpretation of action could have been mixed up in reflections that everyone holds, i think its called honesty, and the dilema seems to be trust..

ummmm -- i've never heard of a raise being in order after 30 days to 3 months.....be very careful that's a slippery slope you are still a very new employee -- unless you are severely under-paid and even at that I would have at least waited 6 months -- if not the year.

That's crazy Frieda! When do people ever get raises then? What's their motivation to excel?
Meliss, I'd be pissed as well. Sim is in a position where there is a guy below him making more and was hired after him. Now Sim is more qualified than this man and is still making less. We're just waiting for our supplemental insurance to kick in so we can get our teeth and eyes taken care and then we're out of here. Sim's company did give him a raise after his 30 day probationary time and all the places I worked did it after 90 days as well so there is hope. Regardless of it all, I respect anyone who has the kahoonas to go and ask for a raise. :D
Frieda
01-10-2005, 09:24 PM
yeah there's an annual inflation correction of about 1,7% and you only get more money if you change jobs, not necessarily a promotion.
if i quit my job now and start working for another helpdesk or servicedesk i can demand more money to start with.
edited to add: of course, changing jobs has to be done with care, as there's always the probation time.. the shorter you work somewhere, the easier they can kick you out and you get less money from the government's social programs if you are without a job after you get kicked out!

when you accepted the position did you both mutually agree that you would have a review after 90 days -- if not, then i would not expect to get a raise. when are you supposed to have a review -- 1 year???

BENTONVILLE, ARK (AP) -- Some Wal-Mart customers soon will be able to sample a new discount item -- Wal-Mart's own brand of wine. The world's largest retail chain is teaming up with E&J Gallo Winery of Modesto, Calif., to produce the spirits at an affordable price, in the $2-5 range. While wine connoisseurs may not be inclined to throw a bottle of Wal-Mart brand wine into their shopping carts, there is a market for cheap wine, said Kathy Micken, professor of marketing at Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I. She said: "The right name is important."
So here we go...
The Top 12 Suggested Names for Wal-Mart Wine:
12. Chateau Traileur Parc
11. White Trashfindel
10. Big Red Gulp
9. Grape Expectations
8. Domaine Wal-Mart "Merde du Pays"
7. NASCARbernet
6. Chef Boyardeaux
5. Peanut Noir
4. Chateau des Moines
3. I Can't Believe It's Not Vinegar!
2. World Championship Riesling
And the number 1 name for Wal-Mart Wine is...
1. Nasti Spumante
And who says they don't know wine in Arkansas?
