I hate that I'm addicted to cigarettes.
I'm going to have to go out now in the dark on my own and buy some, because I've run out and I'm addicted. That makes me very sad, on many many levels.
But I'll still do it.......
If I have kids, I'll do everything I can to make sure they don't smoke.
However my parents did everything they could, and I still smoked.... Solution???????

Since I wrote that, being disgusted with myself and with everything that smoking means, (and also not wanting to go out alone in the dark!)
I've decided to finally give up...... please wish me luck!!
I have one of those weird white stick things that you put nicotine cartridges into, to wean yourself off them..... it worked for me for a month, a couple of years ago.. I'm hoping I can be strong enough now for it to be the last time.
Fingers and toes crossed. I'd hate for anyone I know to have to go through this, and now I can see what my parents were saying all those years ago..... maybe I can change it.

I am soooo proud of you! You are strong enough to give up. Good luck!! You can do this! I know you can! :):)

Jack Flanders

Jasmina,

1. Find a person with a really bad cold and let them breathe on your face. Contract bronchitis from this interaction so your lungs will ache from each cough you make (ooh, a Police rhyme) and you'll not want to smoke for awhile.

2. Tally up what you spend a week or month on smokes and plan ahead what you could use the money for on yourself for fun (or fun-having, you pervs). Smokes here are $$$ and expect where you live are also.

3. Around here, I'm seeing more and more elderly folk attached to their oxygen tanks and hoses, looking really crabby and older than they are because of the their old habit.

Tough love? OK! I smoked, too, but decided I needed my health, money and kids.

You can DO IT!!!!

PS looking for lamps!!!

Oh, so now you're just a quitter!!! ;)

Best of luck to you... My uncle quit when he took his 15 y/o daughter to the dr. with a persistent cough. when the Dr. told him that it was a smokers cough (from the second hand smoke in the house) he quit...

Though I've never gone through it, I think the most important thing to do is alter your behaviour pattern. You need to find something to do that takes up the time you would have spent smoking. (though eating is maybe not the best option) Keeping your mind preoccupied will help deal with cravings sneaking up on you. As with almost anything in life... willpower...

What the hell do I know.... the only thing i've given up is porno, and it wasen't that hard.

It is so *weird* how some foods taste so much better depending on whether or not they're hot or cold.

I mean - ice cream is a no-brainer - or is it? Have you ever tried to eat a quantity of melted ice cream? Sickly sweet. But when you freeze the same stuff it's heavenly...

I just tried to finish off the rest of a can of soup that wouldn't fit in a bowl. It was kinda nasty. But the heated-up stuff is soooo yummy. :D

Lots of cheeses are better room temperature. Wine should either be chilled or barely warm. Pasta and rice are all cold and hard right out of the fridge, but put them in a salad at room temp and they're fine.

Yup. This belongs in the random thread.

Try moving to another city.

I still get carded in the grocery checkout line *every once* in awhile... that "if they look under 30" thing. It's kind of amusing.

My mom was once not allowed to stay at a birthday party for one of her friends at a Yankie Doodle's (they were all in their 50's) because she had left her California ID at home (she doesn't drive). The bouncer only let her in to deliver the birthday cake, and actually came in after her when she didn't leave because she was saying hello to all her friends. Stupid jerk. I can understand why they have laws for minors, but when someone, despite looking very good for their age, is obviously well into life, don't be a prick with a control issue and keep people from having a nice evening.

So... there ya go. It could be worse. :D

Today 20C and rain

There is a god.

"Thousands flocked to the beaches seeking relief from the punishing heat yesterday, and among them were German tourists Tim Hackstedt and partner Ina Dreykluft.

The pair revelled in the scorching conditions at Adelaide's premier beach, Glenelg, splashing around in the sea and working on their tans before returning home today.

"We have spent three weeks in Australia and the weather wasn't so good in Melbourne and Sydney but here in Adelaide it's great," Ms Dreykluft, a 23-year-old teacher from Hanover, said.

"It's about 3 degrees in Hanover at the moment so we are making the most of the beautiful beach and weather."

Mr Hackstedt said he was looking forward to returning home sporting a tan which would make his family and friends jealous."

Does anybody know the German for "third degree burns"? That's going to be one interesting plane trip.

Always try to meet a few miles from home, use hotels that accept cash, dont use your own credit card, dont wear heavy perfume, check the car for stains and / or foreign objects before returning home, keep to your usual routine, build some time in that you wont be missed, keep it simple, avoid direct lying that can be cross checked....
...there's more, but that's off the top of my head, hope it helps :)
