^ :) I didn't... and I didn't! :)

I must proudly announce it went extremely well. I didn't have to act important because there were others to do that and I hadly spoke at all; I didn't have to because the other party did that, too. For unbelievable 60 minutes... well, almost. My colleague and me managed to sneak in a few comments, too.

BUT! I left work just for one day and they kicked out 5 students for being under the influence. When I am at work, nothing exciting happens.

gymnasien can seriously kiss my ass :p (i've just x-ed them out, that is de-clicked them, in my online application thing to - one day ;) - become a proper teacher)

quoting wikipedia so you know what i mean:
German Gymnasiums

German Gymnasien are selective schools. They have the self-perception of offering the academically most-promising youngsters a quality education that is in most cases of no cost (and in other cases of rather low cost). Gymnasien may expel students who academically underperform behind their classmates, or behave in a way that is seen as unacceptable. Pupils study subjects like German, mathematics, informatics, physics, chemistry, geography, biology, arts, music, physical education, religion, history, philosophy, civics/citizenship[1] and social sciences. They are also required to study at least two foreign languages. The usual combination is English and French or English and Latin, although many schools offer combining English or, in some cases, French, with another language, most often Spanish, Ancient Greek or Russian. Religious education classes or "ethics" classes are compulsatory. The student however is allowed to choose which of this classes he attends.[2] In some of the German States even those attending religion courses have to visit ethics (Berlin) or classes in ethics, humanist studies and religious education (Lebenskunde, Ethik, Religion - LER) (Brandenburg).

For younger students nearly the entire curriculum of a Gymnasium is compulsory; in higher grades more elective subjects are available, but the choice is not as wide as in, for example, a US high school.

Although some specialist Gymnasien have English or French as the language of instruction, at most Gymnasien lessons (apart from foreign language courses) are conducted in High German.

The number of years gymnasium differs between the States of Germany. It consists of six to seven years in Berlin and Brandenburg (primary school includes six years in both as opposed to four years in the rest of Germany) and newly eight in Bavaria, Hessen and Baden-Württemberg among others. While in Saxony and Thuringia students have never been taught more than eight years in Gymnasium (by default), nearly all states are going to provide Abitur after 12 years in primary schools and Gymnasium ( the bulk of German Gymnasien up-to-date provide Abitur after 13 school years ). The Abitur exams which complete the Gymnasium education are centrally drafted and controlled (Zentralabitur) in almost all German States and provide a qualification to visit any university.

The vast majority of Gymnasien is public and does not charge tution fees. Article 7, Paragraph 4 of the German constitution, forbids segregation of students according to the means of their parents (the so called Sondierungsverbot). Therefore, most private Gymnasien have rather low tuition fees and/or offer scholarships.

i have made nasty experiences with the second school i work for (and last friday i have semi-quit the the job there - god bless i have my first school, a gesamtschule with 'gymnasialer oberstufe'!!, something like comprehensive school, quasi everyone can attend it and if bright+lucky enough reach the same academic degree than those from gymnasium), but then it's the system: gymnasien shall educate an "elite" and so they work on the principles of strict hierarchy and concurrence and sanctions towards those (and not only towards students....) who "malfunction" in one way or the other.
i mean, it's not 100% paradise on school #1 (in one of my 10th grade math classes i'll have the class' social worker - yes, the middle grades have their own social workers.... and they need them! - helping me from friday on to maintain some minimal discipline), but then even the wild kids are open and straight-talking, and the colleagues (mostly ;)) cooperate 150% and whenever somebody (teacher, student, social worker) can help you, they do. on that fukken gymnasium i never knew where i stood and none of the chemistry a**es (sorry, but it's like that) helped me, or only did so to make me look bad / them look good. yeah and those kids who want to learn at school #1 are supersweet :):) and it's total fun to teach them. and i generally feel so very at home at this school! :)
on fukken school #2 (i only have to give some math there now and some ersatz hours for sick/absent colleagues till they've reduced my contract with them, and when this contract expires on 7/7 they'll never gonna see me again :p) i felt like a total stranger, and i don't really like the kids there, most of them are rather spoilt single childs, some of them have their private teachers for their parents want to push them through no matter what. that's no good whatsoever methinks. i often feel like i'm not there to teach but to entertain the kids. ok, i had got the worst 7th grade in chemistry there (what a mess!!), the other 7th graders (math - those courses who don't get the bi-monthly extra math training for "the bright ones", i always have to insist in my courses that they don't call themselves "the dumb ones") are quite OK, and the 9th graders (math, also those who don't get extra math) are even quite nice. nevertheless i won't grow old there. i'd grow tremendously sick there....

Eager Beavers

There'll always be a need for God
Because his true believers
With bomb and rope and firing squad
Are very eager beavers.

They kill and maim to laud His name
And terrorize the people
Who pray and raise their kids in shame
To build another steeple.

It never seems to do much good:
Their God does not protect them
Because, just as He knew they would,
Revenge and rage infect them

Another generation's hell
Destroys new generations;
Preserving hate preserves as well
His future congregations.

^Good, good, very good Lukku :)

My own good news:
Note: if long blather about something silly bores you, please just skip to the next post with my apologies. Thanks.

Last month, on the way home from a job, I found myself in the neighborhood of the unstable "friend" who, last September, came into our house while we were gone and stole one of our family dogs. I have been sad and depressed all winter long because of it, and felt powerless in the face of his many and various threats. My birthday this year was particularly difficult because Atticus as a puppy had been a birthday present five years ago, so we'd always just counted it as his birthday too.
This attorney works all day and into the evening and kept Atticus and another dog locked alone in a tiny house with a dog door out to a tiny deck.

On impulse, heart pounding, I parked around the corner, walked up to the wrought iron gate and called to Atticus, telling myself that I just wanted to see how he was doing. He came hurtling out the dog door and threw himself at me through the bars of the gate. As he whined and howled and wagged at me furiously, the big dog that lived there nipped and growled at him. I decided to steal him back, so I lifted him easily over the gate, and put him on the ground. He practically danced as he followed me to my car and hopped in. I could hardly breathe as I drove him home.
I'll skip the ugly drama that ensued that night involving a furious, emotionally unbalanced man who had been bested at his own game.

Our back yard has fleas that Atticus is allergic to, and he was already reacting to them again, so I immediately drove him out to good friends who are retired. They have three other dogs out in the country on 60 acres of high ground where it gets too cold for fleas.
My family and I just spent Easter with them.
Atticus is now a true country dog, happy in his "pack" and devoted to his new owners, who love him and spoil him. He looks wonderful. He loves being outside all day long, and his favorite pastime is digging up to his shoulders after gophers. All his nervous city behaviors are gone - no more whining, no more clinging - he's a happy, calm little normal dog now. He sat affectionately with me most of the time, looking at me, but made it clear who his new masters are. :)
This makes me very very happy and a weight has lifted.
I'm extremely grateful to the people on this board who pm'd me - and to Jack in particular - for patiently listening to the excruciating details of this completely ridiculous, idiotic story and holding my silly hand through this and making me laugh. Thank you. I heart you.

Nah, the army's homepage explicitly lists my very chemistry diplomaness (asides diplomanesses in physics and enigineering) in their requirements for the "higher technical service".

The homepage of the fukken senate of education (like the majority of their quadrizillion only sometimes reachable employees) however is very shady about such rotten "side-entries" like me who dare to study a subject properly (and do their PhD basically in another subject - but the law has no interest in that) instead of two subjects in the official teacher ways.
If the uni can't fix me something I will try to get into via the new subject "nature sciences" which only requires a single subject to be studied and for which there are not yet too much laws as it the subject is that new that none has yet studied it (although it already has to be tought starting next year - is a funny thing with the laws ).

But if nothing works they can kiss my behind parts, and as this army thing has an application period of 4-6 month prior to the hiring time (June and December) I do that now.
Plus my headmaster (who told me she cannot promise me anything unless I overcome the fukken law) will learn about that, as I intend to let her in her official headmasterness certify the copies of my degrees I need to apply for the army and let her KNOW that I apply for the army and ask whether she could give me a bit of a job still for September to November. For she has connections to the very senate of education and always says what a valuable colleague I am, blabla (blabla doesn't pay my fukken bills!), but on the other hand she says that she already has bent the law with my current contract - that's all crap! (and I know out of other sources, quite reliable ones that without us non-legalised quasi-teachers the school system in Berlin would already have collapsed, but not even that makes them legalise us by bending the fukken law )

Ok, so they've started evacuating people in some city parts, closest to the river.
There are rumours about the dam... if it bursts 350 000 will be in for the dive. But it won't burst, right?

Thanks! It's actually VERY good advice, as I was without a plan. There have always been occasional floods in Slovakia, but never on such a large scale. I really believed that sort of thing couldn't happen here... :o

The good news is, there's a period of three rainless days before us, during that time they will continually let water flow from the dam, so there'll be more space to receive the next batch.

Frieda

that's good news, i really hope it works!

here's what's in the official NL in-case-it-floods-emergency pack:

radio + extra batteries
hand winding flashlight
regular flashlight & extra batteries
1st aid kid (bandaids, gauze, scissors, bandages, desinfectant, etc)
matches (packed in water tight bag)
tealights
blanket
whistle
compass
pocket knife + some other smaller tools (screwdriver, hammer, small saw)
stash of all my meds
cash + copy of ID paper
map
phone nrs
desinfectant gel
water: 3 liters per person per day for 3 days
canned food + can opener for 3 days
toilet paper, soap, detergent, tampons, toothpaste, toothbrush
raincoat
emtpy jerrycan
clothes for 3 days

so i'm now really applying for proper jobs, science things, administration things inside science things and also for such cool nerd jobs out there in the wild free economy. there's this incredibly fitting and endless cool algorithm developer position - cross your fingers that they invite me there. but actually i don't care, i want to have SOMETHING until nov 1 or latest dec 1 (i'm living off savings and i would very much prefer to not go near the welfare/unemployment assholes who don't neither have my job qualifications (they have all kinds of chemistry fields, but not physical or theoretical chem.) - or my interests in there lousy job data bank.... wait a sec, maybe i should apply THERE to manage their job data bank and thereby restore full employment and after that get a neat govt job with chauffeur and all.... sorry, it's a bit hot in the berlinies :D) well, before i go there i rather do another school job, after all i even have experience in that now (and according to - not really true, reckoning - i have worked in and survived one of Berlin's toughest schools, hehe ;))

C separate team members to prevent any discussions

yes, indeed, that ("to be done slowly for three hours") too, but then it's still ramadan, you see.... ;) (ramadan means no sex, not even after sundown, at least if you do ramadan properly!)

Speaking of Ramadan, funny story:

I used to work at the help desk at my university, and I would usually work two nights a week with a Muslim. We'd work part of the afternoon together, and then I'd cover the office for 20 minutes or so at sundown, while he went to break his fast, and go to the cafeteria for supper. I'm not Muslim, but I wouldn't eat during the shift until he left, because I felt awkward eating in front of a guy who hadn't eaten since morning, and was probably starving.

One day, he switched his shift with another guy, also of middle-eastern descent. I didn't work with him quite as often, so I didn't know him quite as well.

Since I was busy that day, I skipped lunch, so I was pretty starved myself. So I had my lunch in the office, before realizing that this poor fella in the office with me was probably pretty hungry, and I'd just scarfed down a sandwich right in front of him. I felt pretty bad.

While I was sitting there feeling guilty, prayer time came and went, but my companion didn't leave the office. I started to wonder, why wasn't he leaving to break his fast like the other guy usually does. Then I reallized; Oh, right! He's Hindu! Thank God!

MoJoRiSin

However the really is no such thing as Hinduism

Stephi_B

^^:)

same here! and i really admire those muslims working in gastronomy who do fast.
but then, not all nominal muslims do fast: the algerian colleague at my old workplace at uni doesn't for example. ok, he seems to have had a loss of faith 8 years ago, but he told me even more or less devout folks at home in algeria, particularly the young ones, are not that strict about that, so they only skip alcohol (! actually haram all year long.... my boyfriend says algerians are hobby-muslims altogether ;)), and the strict ones skip all, but only during daylight (my boyfriend told me that that's not really the correct way, sex and smoking - normal tobacco as well as weed:D - are haram altogether during ramadan). only when folks grow old and scared of death they become religious, do the pilgrimage to mecca, grow a beard, pray five times a day, fast etc. he also told me that for him ramadan if at all has only a meaning as a family thing (traditionally and if possible, the whole family meets for prayer and fast breaking every sundown in ramadan).
what i see here in germany the young turkish and arab kids do take ramadan serious - okay in parts it's also a sort of competition for them: i ramadan you under the table! ;) in berlin and some other places the end of ramadan is even a school-free day for muslim kids, at my old school also the few non-muslims kids have a day off and the teachers clean labs, coffee kitchens and that.
my boyfriend says actually fasting is not hard (yeah, but once when we walked across the saturday market at my neighbourhood with all nice smelling and looking food stands... and also football training thrice a week with an empty belly is very strenuous for him) and it's a good feeling to do it.

so there i went to me old school (the headmaster has no money at all, she even cannot pay me the extra hours i did work  - money from which i could have lived a whole month!!)
anyway, when i just wanted to go home i met one of my former extra hour students and she sent me straight away to a private turkish education institute close-by who offer private lessons, but also run their own schools in berlin.
and la voila i'm hired for a paid 3-week trial, giving extra lessons in maths and english to kids in the final classes :):) (their boss who is just now in turkey holding exams - the turkish teachers there are teachers from the turkish ministry you see - happened to call while i was there and okay'ed the whole thing)
it's not a job to really live from, but it'll bring me across things for a while.
and it's super-sweet there, everything's brand new, they have such tiny classrooms, and a teachers' room where i'll get my own shelf and a teachers' kitchen where the teacher breakfast together and drink tea (when ramadan is over, of course ;)) - just cool and nice :)
ya well, and maybe they have a thingie for me, i mean a real position, in their private gymnasium (high school), who knows ;)
and the whole thing is even sort of funny with respect to the current craze about this [insert several nasty words in here] sarrazin person (read here for example (http://www.spiegel.de/international/germany/0,1518,715876,00.html) - the scariest thing about it is indeed that so many ppl agree with this person...), i go to work there where according to the "immigration is totally failed" opinion a blonde so totally german woman cannot go (today in the subway i got a compliment about my stunning figure *g*, you see - but the guy left me alone when i said nay, thanks i belong someone and reminded him of ramadan and of his age - actually the latter did the main trick!) and i'm paid by people who according to the "immigration is totally failed" opinion live off welfare... (but can pay 200 Euro and more for private lessons, hmmm?!) i say: ha! :p and haha :D and [insert several nasty words in here] and once more: HA! :)

there's police (tape) between me and my warm cosy home. i'm evacuated cos they fiddle with this there huge (500kg) ww2 bomb they undugged at the s-bahn station. the police lady said something about 22h when it's supposed to be over (now it's 21h here, bah, and i'm awake and running and doing since 6am)

evacuated greetings :)

oh and the (partial) welfare threat is banned, my unemployment insurance still is valid and i'm lucky to have earned good as postdoc :):D so i will not starve / have to beg and unveil my personal everything at the jobcenter (welfare office) until these lazy personnel department ppls in the like 40 places i applied to (only four nays until now, from thingies i applied for in june/early july) get their asses moving and invite me and stuff (i found out that between writing an appl and receiving a definite answer there can be up to 3 months...)
and my fame as nachhilelehrerin grows :o, folks start asking me to give private lessons at home.

:) i haz a job :) finally :) from next wednesday until june :)

not the editor job. they may kiss my jeans-clad behind - i figure they either took the "i'm into marketing" jerk or one of the two eager beaver girls. most definitely they did neither take the geek teacher type nor the bioinformatician chick who wore all black - jeans and zipper hoody - but for overknee lilac wild leather boots (i loved her!! :)). or maybe the only slightly older applicant and only real editor.

nah, it's a school job, maths and chemistry. and they want to raise some nu, modern, progressive math there, individual learning it is called - i digg that :) and they ain't a bloody (wanna-be!) elitist gymnasium, for bloody (wanna-be!) elitist gymnasiums can kiss my unassimilated-to-(wanna-be!)-elitist-shite-and-hypocrisy behind :p

and i have 8 months more time to find my very very job :)

is it because they are like

i'm gonna wait till they (the crap school, who lured me into signing a crap 54% of a crappy paid full position contract until jan 31, but who pissed me of 110% at that ) fire me, fire me, fire me :p *singing* :p fire me, fire me, fire me - and until then i'm home sick (as a matter of fact i indeed caught a nasty cold on thursday when i fought my way through the snow chaos for hours) as i will never ever set a foot anywhere near that crap school where some crap school psycho has me on his list now (and i would have to teach chemistry to him and his followers - nah thanks, this time it was a snow ball and sick laughter and pure provocation, next time it's a bottle of acid) and then i'll have my neat unemployment insurance money again (more than i earned the last month in three jobs... had i known about that neat sum i had never signed the crap job contract. the headmaster of that school couldn't get me sign it fast enough - now i know why... and he would have liked me to sign a formless contract cancellation thing on thursday so urgently - but not me, i'm stupid (if i had signed i would have sat there 6 weeks with no money at all, living on food stamps or money from my relatives ) only once and i did asap call "my legal department" :D - i.e. my baby sis who studies law and the dude in the unemployment office who knows all the tricks - and signed no nothing yet and i won't sign anything unless it's triple checked!

and i wanna announce the following: i will never ever sign a crap contract! NEVER! and i will never again work for a state school! NEVER! (unless it's an easy going freelance thing like in my first and forever favourite school - who still owe me a month' income, but, well, they are still the best) i'm through with that FINALLY  i'm seriously PISSED  and one day i'm gonna write a book about what i experienced and what i saw and heard, and it will sell like steaming fresh bread - HA! :D it will be a damn naughty book :p HAHAHA! *very evil laughter*

I always walk to Cindy's house. When I invite her to my house, she always finds an excuse. I think my house must smell weird to other people or something. Luuku, did you come to my house when you were here? Does it smell weird?

lukkucairi
03-09-2011, 12:22 AM
I came to your house - I remember your pretty back porch and your lovely husband :)

I do not recall it smelling weird. I have friends whose houses smell weird, and yours did not smell like that. For what it's worth, usually those friends are male and single, though I do have a married couple who own seven dogs. Seven dogs will make your house smell weird.

People are all sorts of strange, and they do all sorts of strange things, sometimes without even realizing why. I have known more than one friend who loves to have guests over, but who can't be winkled out of his house with anything less than a crowbar. Perhaps Cindy is a little like that?
