please discuss anything regarding the european championship--

such as:

stephi, why don't you support germany? or ffs, the dutch?? :p

are the brits very hurt about not qualifying for the tournament?

spotted any hot guys?

pictures of your football-watching attire?

who do you think will win? any predictions? strong countries? weak ones?

watch and comment on the goal of the day: http://en.gotd.euro2008.uefa.com/cgd/main/home.aspx

:) :) :)

06-09-2008, 04:11 AM
so did anyone see the football yesterday?

austria - croatia: i was expecting a bit more football and a little less theatre from the croatians, instead the austrians started to play better every minute during the game, they gave everything they had. croatia can consider itself lucky to have won!

and germany - poland! i'm always impressed how the germans take every chance they get to score. they can play a crappy match and still win in the end with this quality. it's something us dutch lack, we get a million shots on goal but none ends up in it. that aside, i enjoyed watching the game, the 2nd goal by Podolski was an awesome one, from the book. the polish team did well.

06-09-2008, 11:56 AM
oh come on, doesn't anybody watch the tournament??

06-09-2008, 12:13 PM
See other thread ;)

My money is on Portugal though :)

*awaits wooden shoe flying in direction of head* :D ;)

06-09-2008, 12:22 PM
nono.. no wooden shoes flying yet.. i still have to wear my orange ones for the match tonight :D

i have to admit, that even though i KNOW FOR SURE the NLs are going to win, my money is also on portugal.. they beat us 2 years ago in a very violent match.

i just hope we're going to win tonight against italy.. it will be tough, hopefully all the italians will be sent off with red because of their theatrical qualities :D

06-09-2008, 12:23 PM
i'm always impressed how the germans take every chance they get to score. they can play a crappy match and still win in the end with this quality.

That's always so embarrassing :o
Only in the last World Cup they sorta played cool, easy, so I for the first time ever supported them.
What is even more embarrassing is that unlike in the World Cup where it was such a relaxed party feeling, the football-patridiocity has set in again. I was lying there in my bed fighting with me headache and outside they were going as if we'd won at least the final

06-09-2008, 12:27 PM

Oh, that's tough, Bella Italia! (Oh, I also supported them(*) in the World Cup - so I won too in the end :D, nay, but this time they don't get my support, not that they get too used to it ;))
Fingers crossed!! Oranjes go! go! go! :)

(*) yes I know, one should not support so many teams - but I just can't decide :D
In the World Cup I cheered for like 7 teams...

06-09-2008, 12:39 PM
^^ aw, sorry you were feeling bad! the oranje madness has kicked in here too, the shopping centre is filled with orange flags and balloons and whatnot, and the street my parents live in also has flaglines across.. and i just saw someone with an orange pippi wig passing by downstairs! :D i think it's time to bring out my own oranje attire :D

^ you support the dutch tonight, hmm? 20:45h sharp :D

06-09-2008, 06:23 PM
jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaa!! :D :D :D

omg what a match-- first that weird offside goal that turned out not to be offside due to some weird rule nobody knows about-- then 2-0, then 3-0.. against the world champion! omg!

^ you support the dutch tonight, hmm? 20:45h sharp :D

I did!! (Did it work? Did it work? :D :))
OK I missed the first 25 min cos I missed the fukken train, but THEN I came out of the subway, rushed around the corner to the first bar/cafe/restaurant (all places had screens outside on the street) and GOAL :D I went one block further, just in time to watch another GOAL :D, then I came in the dead part of my street (no bar/cafe/restaurant for like 400m) so I walked fast, rushed upstairs, turned on telly. OK then was the halftime break, so I took a shower, but then I was back, I drank orange juice to enhance the Oranje power (from my pirate smurf glass to join forces with you Frieda ;)) and some time later: GOAL :D

Oranje babes = good babes :)
I say go! go! go! they go goal! goal! goal!
I'm pleased and totally in love now and it will be very hard to stay loyal with the Portuguese babes.... ;)
Who's Portugal?!? Pfft.... OK they can be the final partners of Oranjes, but else... :D

06-10-2008, 06:30 AM
Btw I noticed yesterday that my new and currently favourite handbag is orange :)
An omen ;)

Frieda, today 18h sharp Russia needs support to crush Spain!! :D

06-10-2008, 07:20 AM
i'll be there supporting Czar Guus & his team.. the dutch are everywhere! :D

too bad Don Leo lost with poland to you guys ;)

06-10-2008, 07:58 AM
^I know! :D
(But with respect to the NL population in my hood you guys gotta watch out, there's a Spanish immigration wave going on since last year ;) also French and British wanna compete with the Dutch -- as they cannot on the green lawn elsewhere ;))

G would have never won without Podolski and he's Polish, have you seen how he jumped into the Polish ranks after the game was out (saw that yesterday in a summary, had to update what I missed on Sun) and hugged all his family and friends there - so cute!! :)

06-10-2008, 01:30 PM
oi steph-- 1-0 for spain!

06-10-2008, 04:07 PM
Oi, 4:1... do svidanya Russki babes :(

06-11-2008, 07:15 PM
did anyone see tonight's match switzerland - turkey?? aw man, incredible, a monsoon, lots of headwounds, pretty interesting and exciting till the end!

06-12-2008, 01:11 PM
^Just parts of it, on the go so to say.
The kiosk owner told me some more this morning. (Türkiye, Türkiye, yay!)

What's the bet for the on-going game Croatia vs. Germany?

I say 2:1, I'm unpatriotic today ;)

I should go to see the 2nd half ------->

06-12-2008, 01:21 PM
i say 1-2, i think you'll make it :)

here's some pics from yesterday's monsoon, i think it's amazing they were able to play at all (mind you, this is in the early evening, way before sunset):

06-12-2008, 01:23 PM
oi steph..... 1-0

06-13-2008, 07:35 AM
Darn, I really should have bet all my money on that 2:1 :D

I'll be there & all for ORANJE 20:45 CET! :)
Don't see no result yet, but c'mon, France, they should be easy after the Italy thing!

06-13-2008, 06:12 PM
What a game!!!! :) :) :) :)

Frieds, you're already in a happiness delirium, I figure? :D

(Btw, the whole bar where we watched it was pro-Oranje... well, with the exception of my friend ;))

06-13-2008, 07:57 PM

:) :) :)

06-14-2008, 10:07 AM
They call it "revolution in orange" here (http://www.spiegel.de/sport/fussball/0,1518,559677,00.html) :D

06-16-2008, 06:29 AM
Hope you come back soon Frieda.... (:()

....so we can discuss that thriller of a game (Turkey vs. Czech R.) yesterday  :D :)
I think that been one of the most exciting footie games I ever saw!
Contrary to the Greece--Russia thing on Sat, I was happy my Russia won, but the football was quite low quality on both sides, only in the end there was some good action (from the Russian babes more :))

Turkey Fans Fill the Streets of Germany

The party was unprecedented. Following Turkey's improbable Euro 2008 comeback win over the Czech Republic on Sunday night, Germany's Turkish community took their celebration onto the streets.

The centers of Germany's big cities were transformed into seas of Turkish flags on Sunday night as tens of thousands of football fans took to the streets to celebrate Turkey's improbable 3-2 comeback victory against the Czech Republic. In Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne and other cities, Turkey fans paraded through streets in car conveys, honking their horns and shouting "Türkiye, Türkiye" after the final whistle of the EURO 2008 game on Sunday.

On Berlin's famous Kurfürstendamm avenue, traffic came to a standstill as 25,000 fans celebrated their team's win. "I've never seen anything like this in my life," a jubilant Turkey fan told the German news agency DPA. In Kreuzberg and Neukölln, two other parts of the city with large Turkish populations, ecstatic fans danced on the streets and set off firecrackers. A police spokeswoman in the Kreuzberg district said: "There's a total party atmosphere."

The mood was very different earlier in the evening. Many Turkish fans had already resigned themselves to their team's going out in the group stage. At a public screening in Hamburg many of the nearly 5,000 Turkish fans had gone home early while their team was losing 2-0.

But an amazing comeback by Turkey -- three goals in the last 15 minutes -- secured victory and a place in the quarterfinals. "It's like a miracle," said 20-year-old Okan Türk, while celebrating the victory with friends in Hamburg.

06-16-2008, 12:52 PM
stephi, why don't you support germany?

Tonight I will!!! :D *trying to remember where I have my black-red-golden silicon bracelet*
To the uninitiated ear I might sound Austrian if I speak my dialect
BUT: I am NO Austrian at all!!!
And my compassion goes out to Vanya who lives just a stone-throw from the Vienna fan-mile... i.e. centre of possible Ösi-madness.
So dear Austrian team: Loose, or my friend does not get his well-deserved sleep, OK? ;)

06-17-2008, 04:55 AM
congrats! :D

:D http://www.tennis-center.de/images/smilies/deutschland.gif :D

Ballack = good babe! :)

And I've never before seen that the trainer gets thrown from the field
I thought I've really seen all after that on Sun where close to the end the Turkish goalkeeper got a red card & was replaced by a fieldplayer (so good there was no penalty shooting!!!)

Anyway, Germany will get a major asskick by Portugal... unless they find their fire of 2006 again and give like 200% more than in the last games.

06-17-2008, 07:27 AM
What are your guesses for tonight?

I say 3:2 for Netherlands
and 1:1 in the other game.

06-17-2008, 06:09 PM
^you guessed wrong :p

quite a boring game from the NLs though, i even got distracted (watched it at home) and started doing dishes & laundry :o

good thing the analog signal from the pub downstairs in the street is 1,5 seconds faster than my digital, so as soon as i heard cheering i ran to my tv and watched the goals being scored :D

Yes, football prophecy never works twice in a row... just like winning at sth like pool billard, table football or so.

Puh, then I haven't missed anything, only saw the last like 3 min.

So... it is time... to announce... my QUARTER FINAL BABES

* imagining Berlin, i.e. approximately 5th largest Turkish city, turning into a party zone for several days after the finals *

* wondering how to explain Frieda and my-friend-who-soon-moves-to-Portugal that no longer NL and/or Portugal are the #1 absolute favourite babes *

* postponing that problem for later *

*going back to imagine the party zone scenario *

* imagining Berlin, i.e. approximately 5th largest Turkish city, turning into a party zone for several days after the finals *

*sigh* Wouldn't it be wonderful?

* wondering how to explain Frieda and my-friend-who-soon-moves-to-Portugal that no longer NL and/or Portugal are the #1 absolute favourite babes *

That's simple! Don't give any explanation. :)

06-18-2008, 01:01 PM
^Know what, if they really ask me I'll say this:
"There were these Ural-Altaic riders I bumped into while taking my usual stroll through the steppe... er... from the subway down my street. So, they invited me to a drink, and then one more and so on... and somwhen between drink #? and #(?+1) we decided upon blood brotherhood. And now excuse me I have to organise myself some Turkish fan gear..."

;) :)

Highly imaginative! :)

There's still time till Friday to find something suitable. This year I'm not planning to kidnap the moon and a star... :D

06-18-2008, 01:13 PM
if the NLs win the EC, you're all invited here for some serious partying :D

06-18-2008, 01:35 PM
they showed this clip on tv last night here-- the french players bus driving exactly how we all know that the french drive (with parody voice-over in dutch)

06-19-2008, 07:50 AM
^^^I want to hear more of how you stole the star & moon the last time... here (http://bulletin.zefrank.com/showthread.php?t=4959),
maybe I'll remember more of the encounter with the Ural-Altai riders and write it down either ;)

^^Can you then maybe send a NL party delegation to Berlin? :)
But what am I talking here, all that is highly hypothetical so far ;)
(Türkiye! Türkiye! go! go! go!)

^:D too funny!

Looks like he/she/it is an obedient one... However, I'm afraid to open his/her/its post about 'Goalkeeper Petr Cech says blunder against Turkey was "a shock" ', lest I get a shock myself.

06-19-2008, 12:10 PM
nothing shocking was in there, but it was automated :( so it's gone now!

06-19-2008, 12:29 PM
oh and some sad news also-- Khalid Boulahrouz' wife Sabia went into labour yesterday, way too early, only 24 weeks.. their daughter Anissa didn't make it :(

he says he's going to stay and play against russia on saturday.. i think it's very brave of him.. so sad! :(

Oi, Stephi! Isn't your heart torn in half? The German team has shown it's better side - so far. The Portuguese aren't bad, but... seem a bit unprepared right now. 2:1 after the first half.

06-19-2008, 05:15 PM
1-3! i bet she's pleased anyway :D

found this clip: van der Vaart farts :D

YsaPur EsChomuw
06-19-2008, 05:39 PM
2:3 It was a dramatic finish...

06-19-2008, 06:03 PM
yes i agree.. and i was surprised that the green quilt they were playing on didn't roll up or something.. the field looked like shit!

YsaPur EsChomuw
06-20-2008, 12:07 AM

from the Netherlands....

Consider my previous post to be written in size 1. :o

06-20-2008, 03:52 AM
size 1 is working fine from here! :)

yeah i know they were replacing it, didn't know the field came from here! i guess we're better at growing other green stuff ;) :D

OK, yes, I was a little bit pleased. ;)
They finally started playing REAL football again!

Anyway, even if they don't get into their typical one-game-cool-next-game-lame routine now,
Turkey will CRUSH them, ha! :p
They know how to win in monoon rain, they know how to make 3 goals in the last minutes of a game... simply class! :)
♥ Türkiye, seni seviyorum! ♥

I did like the patched green btw, cos it's a mosaic now.... and I'm almost certain that some of it was WEED :D
How else could the German team have played so well and easy, and that against the best team of the cup!

YsaPur EsChomuw

Ok, there's luck involved, but it takes a spirtit that refuses to knuckle under, and score a goal in 120th minute, after getting one in the 119th.

06-20-2008, 06:34 PM
it's friggin insane

That's what the voices say in my head, too. :( They're great players, and creative, too.

There's absolutely no way Turkey can win another match now, anyway.

But still, my heart belongs to the Turkish players. And my chewed fingers will be kept crossed for them, no matter what.

06-20-2008, 07:11 PM
^you & your voices are still invited if we win the EC :)

(also if we don't by the way;))

06-21-2008, 01:06 PM
Actually, she might be happy with either team to win.

And there's gonna be a fiesta in Berlin anyway. ;)

That's about the plan :D

And if the Dutch really should win in the end we all jump in the train to Amsterdam :)

06-21-2008, 03:26 PM

Oh my, Frieda :( :( :( *hug*

I was totally amazed, fell out of my socks, my long-thought-lost Russian babes are back!!! A. and me rushed over to the internet cafe and wrote Vanya a YAAAY ROSSIYA RULZ mail. He's Russian, he lives in Vienna were the final is (and methinks it will be Turkey vs Russia, and many, many people think so, at least those who were at the bar/cafe where we watched it and those later on who were sitting at the bra of my fav club last night, discussing the events ;)), plus his family is on visit at theirs just now -- I figure they still dance on the table :D

But my second thought was for Frieda :( :( :( *more hugs*

So, I have plan: Frieda, when you feel better again, you join the Turkodutch crowd (if they are like the Turkogermans they do magnificent car parades like no other fans do). Cos I will go back to my first fav Russian babes (Oh, this being-torn-apartness, emotional rollercoaster riding, this Euro, my heart, my fingernails, my lacking sleep cos of partying car paraders :)), but to keep the number of Turkey supporters constant and all...

And party is sure! Berlin is not only the German capital, the inofficial Turkish capital but also the westernmost suburb of Moscow :)

Oi, the Russians!

Although I bear a certain amount of historical grudge against them, and I wished victory to the Dutch team, I couldn't even watch the last 15 minutes, I had to turn my back...
But they were just brilliant! They attacked relentlessly, and are fast like a cheetah, they appear from the middle of nowhere... and that young Russian goalie -- he's a miracle! Not for a second loses his head, going at such ease as if it was a friendly match in the backyard of the building-block. The rest of the players were quite relaxed, too.

Still, I'm sorry for the Dutch team. :(

So Stephi, 'fess up: Which team do you hope will win today? ;)

06-25-2008, 05:32 AM
i'm not stephi but i feel the need to ventilate my opinion--

i guess the next two matches are going to be interesting-- both the germans and the turks have proven to be able to score in the last minute, a quality i would normally only attribute to the germans. so if the turks play their fast game like in the last match, and score the final goal, they might win. if they're able to play like before with all those players out.

also, the russians have proven to be able to play a game of tactics and they have a magical forward in their team. spain have a really good team, but they play slow. it could become a rematch of the NL-RU game.. because the spain vs italy match wasn't really that exciting.

who's going to win the tournament??

06-25-2008, 11:50 AM
I'm Stephi (I think...... you see how nervous I am already ;))

I think Turkey wins the game today, they are 2000% motivated, dunno if the Germans are and/or inhowfar they underestimate the Turks (they should not!).
In any case Berlin will win! :D

The next game will be won by Russia methinks (same as with the Turks, high motivation for coming so far for the first time, plus they technically improved a lot during the tournament).

So the final will be Turkey -- Russia, and Russia will win imo.
In any case Berlin will win! :D

I also think it'll be Russia this year.

And somehow, I can't imagine any more victory for the Turks. Even though I wish...

06-25-2008, 01:13 PM
i heard the turks are considering using their 3rd goalkeeper as a field substitute

YsaPur EsChomuw
06-25-2008, 01:52 PM
Yeah, heard that too.

The Turks are crazy, but in an endearing way. :o

Now that's football, not the bloody boring pingpong of the Spanish - Italian match!

06-25-2008, 04:53 PM
is it any good? i missed the first half because i got stuck in a small traffic jam trying to get off the ramp of the parking deck at ikea together with 200 other cars

06-25-2008, 05:05 PM
hey! no signal??

YsaPur EsChomuw
06-25-2008, 05:14 PM
1-1, the Turks had 15 attempts, out of which 9 hit the goal, the Germans 5/1.
Corners: Turks 6, Germans 2.

During the first half the Turks were real fast, 100% better, than the Germans, but the result is ... well 1-1, anyway.

But now it seems, that the Turks got a bit slower and rougher. One yellow card.

06-25-2008, 05:15 PM
cool, thanks :)

06-25-2008, 05:43 PM
welcome :) and thank you for the 1st half update :)

so spain or russia against germany-- it's going to be an exciting game tomorrow!

YsaPur EsChomuw
06-25-2008, 06:19 PM
Today's was an exciting one, too. I hope to see a good one tomorrow, although the Spanish showed a somwhat careful style of playing during the match with Italy. But they won't be able to do it against the Russians (Russian babes for Stephi:-)

Sleep-deprivation continues. Now I can't fall asleep which means tomorrow I'll be annoyed and bite a few heads off. My students are in for a surprise, probably. ;)

06-25-2008, 06:49 PM
just have them talk about the game.. that'll explain your mood :D

YsaPur EsChomuw
06-25-2008, 10:51 PM

Tomorrow's topic should be how to prompt victims to describe their stolen or lost property. Might change it for a lost match, perhaps...

Except for me there're no Turkish fans here. (Remember the match with the Czech team? Slovakia used to be part of Czechoslovakia, the Czechs are practically our brothers...) Most people think they're not exactly European, so they shouldn't be playing.

Little do they know! After all, any match where the Turks were playing offered some of the most exciting moments of this year's championship.

06-26-2008, 06:58 AM
(Russian babes for Stephi:-)

yes, Yes, YES :D

Ah, so the NL television also hacked into the Swiss satellite after the transmission broke down the 2nd time ;)
(Watched it at home, cos I HATTED this over-the-top black-red-golden madness outside, but I figure some folks flipped out when picture and/or sound vanished)

I'm a bit sad, Turkey played so well... but Germany did it "the Turkish way" in the end, mmh, cosas de la vida and stuff...
If they stick to their one game cool, next game lame Russia gotta be cautious.

Looking forward to a cool game tonight (Rossiya!!!) and a cool final on Sun (ROSSIYA!!!)

That was byoootiful. Dosvidanya, Rossiya!

Fantastic Spanish action + in the second half three goals.

06-26-2008, 07:02 PM
beautiful goals from spain, wow!

06-27-2008, 07:26 AM
My babes.... :(

But Spain played really high-class! Respect :)

Will they crush Germany come Sunday? ;)

YsaPur EsChomuw
06-27-2008, 08:18 AM
Who knows? Most people would have bet a fortune on Russian champions, and now...

It was an amazing match, with the Spanish attacking relentlessly. And scoring three goals in the semifinals... is not that ususal.

I can't wait till Sunday. :o

06-29-2008, 03:36 PM
lovely tacky ceremony :D

wigs can never be big enough for me :D

06-29-2008, 05:41 PM

06-30-2008, 07:31 AM
