Step 7: Experiment in a text editor by replacing spaces with periods, which means that you have to change the periods used as pixels in the image to something else--I chose apostrophes

A sure-fire way to kill this thread is for interlopers/lurkers like me to barge in on the conversation, not having read all the posts from the last two years, and repeat a thought that has already been expressed, as if for the first time. Everyone familiar with each other will clam up. If I were truly the queen of thread-killers, I could go back and do some research into the thread in order to mine it for thoughts already used, and deliberately re-phrase them slightly, but I do feel strongly that a true thread-killing should be done inadvertantly.

^^^^^Since I'm fairly new here, and truly trying to be the one to kill this long-running thread by asking a boring question that I really don't expect an answer to (but need the answer to anyway, and can't seem to think of where else to ask it), could you tell me how you get the image to appear above like that without making readers have to click on the image? I try copying and pasting from my jpeg file, or directly from the source, but it doesn't seem to work, so I have to resort to the clickable kind. Not nearly as aesthetically pleasing.
I could always ask this again if there's no satisfactory answer. I can be horribly persistent that way :p

You can use image tags around a URL (check out the little dialogue boxes that are brought up when you click on the icon that looks like an envelope when you are making a reply). Sometimes sites object to your deeplinking in this fashion, and you might want to sign up on Flickr or another image hoster that will allow you to host your own deeplinking.
