i soooo dun want to be here...

this morning...i woke up late for a meeting.... got there at 9am instead of 8am....was groogie...meeting was over at 1030..i playd with her kids for a little while and during a game of hide and seek i fell asleep in my hiding spot...so im driving and im supposed to meet my friend for lunch...but im was feel soo week. that i pull over to rest for a bit and fall asleep for an hour. (my friend ended up canceling on me) so i went home took a shower (hoping that would help me feel better) and went to sleep ---i almost slept thru my alarm and missd work...so i drove to work and on the way here...got lost and stuck due to the new traffic changes cuz of construction...i was 10 min late!

My step-sister solved this by setting three alarm clocks at full volume on the other side of the room. She'd still sleep through them, but my stepmom would come in and yell at her to turn them off (they were loud enough to wake up the whole house...)

HA HA HA...you doubt me so! I have three alarm clocks all over the room. Two are battery powered so I go over, pick them up, go back to bed, and sleep with them under the pillow for easy 'snoozing'. I had to get the third with the cord for that very reason. I even set my phone. I should enlist eastern monkeys to give wake up calls...hey, great job opportunity. Hmmmm.

I've been waking up between 5:30 and 6:00 am for so long that even when I want to sleep late, my eyes open and I'm up. If I don't have to get up, I can usually just putter around for a half hour or so and go back to bed. When I do have to get up, if I don't I'm a zombie for the rest of the day.
I use Janet as an alarm clock. With her yowl it's easy to get up if only to chase her into the kitchen! :) :o

When ever I slept in, it is because, in my genius, I have forgotten to set the alarm.:o I would love to be able to sleep the sleep of children; sound and oblivious!:)

Back before Little Funky became our 6:30am wake-up method, I was terrible at getting up, so played this little game with myself.

First I would set the alarm clock to the correct time. Then I would turn my head away and hold down the minute incrementer for an indeterminate amount of time--but enough to set the clock between 5 and 30 minutes ahead. I then let go of the clock and left the room for a while so I would disassociate myself from the current time.

The upshot of this being: when I came back in the room I wouldn't know exactly how far ahead I had set the clock. Standard snooze time on American clocks is about 9 minutes. So I knew that I had one or two or, maybe, three chances to hit snooze, but I had better get up after that third one because then I might be late!

It was the uncertainty of the situation that was needed to jar my sleepy head out of its reverie and get my ass up.

I thought I was just weirdly creative by coming up with this scheme until I heard this exact method described by a morning radio show host (Jamie White on 98.7 in LA)... I was thinking "OMG I DO THAT!!!" I've also had other independent confirmation that others use this method... and think they are unique.

When we first encountered this issue, she would just reach around me and turn it off, not knowing that my wakeup routine depended on multiple snoozes, which made me late for a while.

Then I explained it... and to this day she hasn't seen the full value of this scene...which ended up helping me because she responds in much the same way you do, which served the same purpose and introduced a certain playful aspect to the morning grind.

No matter what time of night I go to bed, the cat wakes me up the next morning two hours before I want to get up. Even if I try and cheat and tell myself I'm getting up earlier or later, she knows and still wakes me two hours before I want to get up. I never knew until I got Janet that cats can tell time.

Road crew woke me up to say they changed plans due to the weather; if I want my car out, do it now. Seems they are going to have a 3 foot chasm all the way down my side of the road.
Since I don't feel like doing my best Dukes Of Hazzard today, I parked across the street. Oh, and they took out my mailbox. How nice.
Now I am left wondering: My car is out, but I am in. How am I going to get to my car?? Brilliant!:o
