Mornin! We saw the fireworks at the Pier, walked the 20 steps back to the party and ate our faces off...I had carrot cake, key lime pie and strawberry stuff for desert, and my lactose intolerance took the night off. OOO what a dare that was! So, feeling cocky from livin on the edge, we went home and had the annual fireworks show in our driveway, this time mostly screamin exploding bottlerockets (savin the big bucks for vacation) and we have this really long straight driveway, and we shoot em up, or out towards Green Boulevard if no cars are comin. 90%, no matter where we aimed em eventually hit my sister's boyfriend's car, parked off to the side there. It's a POS, so we laughed everytime that projectile hit metal. or the top. or exploded under it.
The boyfriend walked out this am and remarked that there was a huge pile of spent munitions surrounding his car.....he thought it was funny, luckily...(thereby shortening his double secret probation as the new BF)

Good morning all.
Whew..the cats survived another 4th of July. Normally Mira is a quivering ball of nerves underneath something all day long...yesterday she was unflappable. I was amazed...she only looked slightly worried when the occasional REALLY FARKING BIG BANG went off nearby. Mao was like all...huh...this noise again..what's wrong with people, cheez?.
really nice fireworks show in my town this year. They must have set off $8000.00 + worth of fireworks in the finale alone.
Oddly enough, probably as a result of me reading Ishi right now, and reading about California pioneer asshats that adopted a shoot first understand never mentality towards the native indians...the firework show made me feel really sad ...especially considering that I was laying in a field that probably heard Mexican cannons and rifles shooting at native indians.
During the firework show i was listening to the farking loud booms and the echos coming off of the hills, and it made me soooo sad to think of all the peeps around the world recently that have had to listen to real munitions (which must be hundreds and thousands of times more powerful) going off in their home towns...our US munitions that is. Damn it made me feel really bad.
As I was feeling those "small" booms echoing through my bodily fluids, I couldn't help wondering how it must feel to have a 1500 lb block buster bomb go off 500 yards away from someone. Wow, that would really suck.
So...I'm hoping/wishing that everyone gets to have an independance day/year/life from experiencing someone elses bombs farking up their days/years/lives.

Today Little Spart may get good news from the doctor. She has been in an orthopedic boot/cast thingie all summer because of a stress fracture to her tibia from running track. If the x-ray looks good this morning, the doc may let her take it off. I will be so happy for her if that's the case -- she's been so good about the whole thing.
And I go back to the Mad Dentist this afternoon -- ai yi! :D

I had many of the same thoughts while watching fireworks after the baseball game Monday. We were right, I mean, right underneath the place where they were being fired. We came away clothes reeking of sulfur, and everybody got paper and dust and probably bits of gunpowder in their hair, and as the "bombs burst in air", I couldn't help but think how sad it was that for some people on earth, the shrieking and screaming would be not in excitement or awe but in genuine terror and that not all nearby explosions are friendly -- in fact, for most of the world's people they are not.
I mused that the only good use they have ever found yet for gunpowder is fireworks, and I wish we'd see a day when that's all it was ever used for again.

Sad to think that entertainment was the chief purpose the Chinese originally had for fireworks.
It wasn't until it was imported to the West that all the shvt hit the fan...
Of course, the Chinese being human just like the rest of us, it would probably only have been a matter of time before one of them got the idea.

When yo go into the backcountry on Cumberland Island, ther park Rangers have you go through a little orientation talk before sending you out into the wild.
One of the rangers said in a lecture I was at once that the raccoons in the big, established campground would sit on tree branches above the campers and hold out their hands for food! :D

Good Morning,
How was everyone's weekend? I had a month off and this is my first day back to work... It sucks. Top it off with everytime I logged into YIM this weekend I missed the person I was logging in to see... And I had to shave my beard and I didn't sleep good last night... worried about being late on my first day back. All together just a Monday proper.

Oh yeah, I make some mean enchiladas! Except the whole kitchen ends up all red and it is an udder mess. So I only make those on special occasions...the first time I made them, I made them just like I had always seen my grandma and mom make um. Ethiopian Nachos...undefinable sound a little scary.
The French nachos should be served by a rude waiter with an awful French accent.
