Is that you over there, Aud? Good morning! Whatcha planting this year?
Audreyvgs
03-19-2004, 12:23 AM
Today and tomarrow I'm plantin rocks!!! Makin a wall and have realized my age. Got 4 palettes of rocks and I think I underestimated a lot of things, including how many I'd need. I started yesterday and I can still move, fortunately. We were grading out the yard and it ultimately took a small bulldozer just to help me finish raking the leaves before we could do it, they were astoundingly heavy, I have no idea why, cept for they're really tiny oak leaves, the florida kind. Sprinklers fault maybe. Bzillions of em 4" thick. Bicep city. Today they did the string thing with the level for the height of the wall, its like 40', I think I might be insane. Lucky Nico thinks doin this is fun, altho I didn't expect to ask for help, I think i might have to. Im a wuss.
Also, why do all bags of cement poof out cement dust when you place them in your car? I even put a towel down, but had to vaccuum and wipe the thing out, cement dust everywhere!!!!
It's too freakin hot to work outside between the hours of 11 and 6! I'll probably still be doin this project next year.

Dbee, what do you have in that greenhouse?
daverbee
03-19-2004, 11:10 AM
Mornin', Aud!
Wall sounds like it'll be nice.
As I understand it, you've just moved into this house, right? If the previous owners didn't rake the leaves on a regular basis, when they accumulate, they hold a lot of water. Not just from recent rains, but from way back! I've had this problem before. You're right, it's a booger of a job! I tried using a mulching mower on a guys yard to fix this problem and ended up clogging up the mower.
Don't have anything in the greenhouse as I haven't used it in quite a long while. It's mostly used as a doghouse now, so I guess you could say I have Kodi and Fred in there.
Outside, I'm working on roses, hibiscus, johnny jump ups, various lilies, jalapeno and cayenne peppers.
Let us know how the wall turns out!

No character???? We should all live in a place that boring!
One of these days I want to take my girlfriend on a tour of Florida, would you mind if we stopped by for a day or so? I will definitely take her to Ding Darling Preserve and on down to Everglades NP and you'd be on the way!
As far as the area the grass will never grow in again, I'd leave it. As long as it doesn't get muddy it'll be fine.

Buckets of florida beach sand...i hear you gots plenty of it around the state...in the grassless area. You could have your own beach-in' back yard.
Grass is overrated as a ground cover anyhow...just a way to subsidise lawnmower manufacturers...fark em.

I'm thinking...(asuuming a place way out in the boonies)... something that the deer like to eat.
Both for the beautiful views...and the occasional suplement to the freezer meat supplies. I like a ground cover that works for you instead of you working for it.
Audreyvgs

Ha, it is sand, mixed with dirt, it's called Buckets-o-dust!!! If I plant anything yummy, the horses will rip it out by the roots! They ocassionally have a day out in the yard, and are not good to plants.
This place has charachter, Jed Clampett's. What it needs is charm. Im going for charming.
Stop by, I'll give you the Scheitztreun Acres tour, and tell you where to go to avoid the tourists! Make sure you put the tram tour of Shark Valley on your list, past everglades city (big whoop) cause that's the best place to see alligators in the wild, atop an observation tower deep in the river of grass. The everglades isn't a jungle, really, its a big grassy field that water moves thru, from lake Okechobee down to the keys. There are cypress hammocks scattered about, but by and large it is water.

I used to get to Okeechobee quite a bit when we had the primary care clinics in Labelle, Clewiston, and South Bay. Nice place to work and then find somewhere to watch the sunset!
We get up to the Okefenokee quite a bit so get our fill of alligators. One tried to get his fill of us.
Foul tempered fella who had been getting fed by tourists near the landing at Billy's Island. A Park Ranger told me they were going out that night to catch him and release him deeper in the swamp. He left us alone after he got a canoe oar across the snout.

Mel The Fabulous Flamepoint:http://bluecatmoon.com.hosting.domaindirect.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/mellogo.jpg decided that everyone ought to get up around six this morning. It's good for you. Really. And the best way to get people up, as everyone knows, is to howl piteously into their ear, run just far enough away to avoid getting caught and put outside the bedroom, repeat as needed.
Well, somebody had to do it -- the kids were away overnight.

regarding the apparent lack of balance in your feng shui and yin yang, I thought you bought new undies!
As for the chili burger and beer for lunch...Go ahead, but have salad and salmon for dinner. Skip the carbs (you had them at lunch). Then go for a walk after dinner.
Get lots of water in to flush the salty chili and aid the body in removing the alcohol.

Somehow stuff like playing at the new message board, making toys for the cats and going out in the backyard thirty times a day to see if any new plants have sprouted has taken precedence.
I like Spring. In the winter, I just keep going back and forth to the refrigerator and opening it to see if anything new has magically appeared on the shelves in the last five minutes. In Spring there's the whole perimeter of the yard, and I can kill at least six minutes at a pop that way.

Cleveland has that industrial grunge dipsy-doodle ethnic and waterfront thing going on and I have a grudging affection for it. Hey, it's home. But if I had a boatload of money and no responsibilities, I'd buy a property outside Abiquiu, NM (Georgia O'Keeffe's old stomping grounds) and sit on my arse making kinetic sculptures and drinking coffee from a big old cracked cup and gazing at the Sangre De Cristos all day.
Taos has one of the coolest, most eclectic radio stations I've ever heard, and they broadcast over the web -- go to www.ktao.com (http://) to enjoy everything from Joni Mitchell to Avril Lavigne to Native American woodwinds to Led Zeppelin to Phish to Maroon 5 to Outkast to Sarah Vaughan to.... well, you get the idea. Oh mannn, I figured you'd know that One Shot is sign paint. Its is so good, but the old cans i have have lead deluxe. I LOVE THIS PAINT. One shot means that one brush stroke covers, and it spreads out and makes shiny. No brush strokes showin when it dries.. I love the saturation of the colors, and lo and behold if you mix red and blue you get purple. How often does that happen? It is so freakin stinky, tho, i have to do it outside. But that negates the mirror finish it gets, if it gets bugs stuck in it in the like 7 hours it takes to dry. It reminds me of Jackson Pollock when I go to mix it. woooo.
But now I have to stop at Starbucks when i go to pick up the bink.

oh...duh..yes i've used one shot before...I painted graphics on a gas station window using that stuff...I airbrushed it though using stencils. And I was outside so the fumes weren't too bad.
when you said "coffee" and "shot" in the same sentance it obviously made me think espresso shot.
please please please...don't drink starbuck espresso...I can make one of those for you using the following recipie if you must have the characteristic Starbuck flavor.
1/2 Central American generic bland bean...roasted blacker than a new moon night to hide poor bean quality.
1/2 Charcoal briquet ground fine to aproximate the look of Espresso grind.
Pull shot in 18 seconds using water 15 degrees cooler than recomended temp, and serve in a cheap paper cup with a "where is my tip for serving you this swill" look from the under-paid and overworked counter geek.

Geez, Coffee, I had a caramel apple cider.
If I have normal coffee in the daytime, I have to do the prilosec for 3 weeks afterwards. It would feel like somebody sucker-punched me in the top of my stomach.
I drink one cup of Maxwell House Columbian every day. It is not coffee by the time i get finished with it. It is more like a non-dairy confection. I think I like the sugar more than anything, so it's more traditional than having like, say, a Cadbury Egg, which would be innappropriate, first thing.
I'm confessing this to you, as I find it impossible to lie this early.

Coffee, you are saving my ass today.
No sleep last night. None.
I said my goodnight to JT & logged off. Went & laid down. Put the sleepmask on. No. Farking. Good.
So I got up & started cleaning. 4 empty boxes & 2 garbage bags later, I felt I'd made some progress.
I found my mom's Yogurt Berry Pie recipe, which I will post later.
And I found my big empty bottle of Clearly Canadian from 1991, which I was using as a flower vase until I moved here. This is exciting to me b/c they don't make those bottles anymore, they changed the design in about 1997 or so. Weeeeeeeeee!

heh...im in a filk band...hehehe.
(Filk=Folk type songs (or existing song melodies) with words changed to science/educational lyrics.)
I hope all monkeys, guests, and bots have nice days today too.

You and my friend the Gentleman Pirate would get on well -- he's a musician and science freak like myself.
One of the funniest things I have ever heard him do, to entertain his five-year-old son, was a medley rendition of "The Wheels On The Bus" after the styles of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and David Bowie. He is a wonder.

Hey... if you ever feel the need for a tuba to sit in on a session, give me a call. I even have my own horn.

Good morning. I am not used to the time change, I feel rushed. I'm not, just feel that way.
I feel like I have been gone forever. It's only been a few days but it feels like I have missed tons!
Hope everyone has a good day:D

I had to wake up when it was still dark, bleh, stupid time change, what idiot ever thought that messing with the clocks was a good idea. I attempted to boycott the whole thing only to realize I would be the only loser in that deal. Bummer. So, with out further ado, GOOD MORNING MONKEYS! Its Monday!
