just on the news here: the christian parties in our government are protesting against a porn movie on one of the public tv channels that's going to be broadcasted in combination with a documentary about the history of porn--

and the next item on the news: in the USA showing a butt on tv leads to major fines!

in addition to the porn riot described above-- there are now christians praying at the bottom of a non-functional TV broadcast tower to prevent the tv channel from broadcasting that porn movie.

maybe i shouldn't laugh. but i do  :D :o

Well. To be fair, that particular tower won't be broadcasting the porn movie, whether their prayers have anything to do with it or not. :D

The quality isn't great, it's a picture of a picture, but look what I found when cleaning out the depths of my closet the other day. This picture taped to a short blurb in french. I have translated it:

http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/3122/meateightzc8.jpg

Hello my name is Jaime.
I'm eight years old.
I have a cat, and A brother. When I'm not school I play games with my cat. My favourite colours are green-blue, blue-green, pink, purple and dark black. My favourite food is pizza.

(Dark black?)

Ooookay, so I'm standing at the crosswalk waiting for the light to change, and it's kinda crowded because there's also a bus stop there. There's a woman nearby, maybe a few years older than me, delicately built, neatly and sweetly dressed. When she moved aside for a passerby, she bumped into this punk wannabe guy behind her, and he thought he'd act big in front of his punk wannabe friends. "Step off my sh*t, bitch!"

Ha ha ha. :D

She turned around, got in his face with her pointer finger, and she said, "Don't talk to me like that, you little poser sh*thead! I was fvcking a guy with a mohawk before you were born! You probably think Minor Threat is what gets you probation!"

The light changed, and she started stomping across the street, still cussing him..."Pinche fauxhawk pendejo..."

As I walked across, too, I heard one of the punk wannabe friends say, "Damn. She musta gone to school on the south side."

HAHAHAHA.

The audience thought that was a really funny thing to put there cause modern dating kinda sucks.

The 16 year old made a trite silly statement to which a response was unnecessary. And it should go without saying that she could not have been referencing me since the color of my skin precludes me from being racist

I did not come in here to get involved in personal attacks. I would ask that people please refrain from doing so

your sarcasm and the other personal attacks in here are quite unfriendly.

The above statements were in fact made by me and were about me; They were not attempts to attack one specific individual as I am being attacked in here.

your opinion of my blackness has no merit

Your input is now being considered.

^I heard rumours that she was a wild thing at uni, and she vandalised her office desk, she scratched formulas in it, yes! And her hubby (#2) is considered rather hot in theoretical chemistry circles (I dunno, totally not my type... blargh, but then again, if I imagine other profs - not mine of course, mine's a cute teddybear! :))

:D

Edit: Apropos 'chica', there was something that made me laugh, yesterday though. I was going home from work, standing at the trainstation there out in the wilderness where I work, only two other people (dudes) there. Then came along the pseudo-ganstas of the village (14-16 y/o's I'd say), when they saw me (they still on the other side) they started shouting "There's a chica, a chica" and so on. They went on "chica, chica" the whole like 10 minutes till the train arrived. I just grinned... :D

In train (where else; trains = life concentrated), two rows in front of me:
A man, with the exactly same voice than Diddi Hallervorden (comedian who was big when I was a kid, here's a more recent video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlf4sUZezaI) where Diddi sings a fun duo with Nina Hagen) but different looks though (a bit chubby and not a womanizer type, to put it nicely), age ~50, together with his mum and dad - this totally klischee nice elderly couple. The guy was going on like a kid on his trip to the big city, "Wow!", "Look at this!", "See what they built there!", "Amazing!", he was jumping up and walking round all the time, looked out on this side then on the other. His mum said, when he took a seat on the other side for a while, "Boy! You can't see anything on that side!", he obeyed (Mamma's boy obviously ;)). He also tried to look like a Berlin expert, tried to explain his parents everything, or mentioned that he already has been here and there - but his dad outdid him in Berlin lore...
Then we passed Alexa (huge new shopping center at Alexanderplatz, its western facade looks a bit like an Ancient Persian temple imo), after he wow-ed it appropriately, he began with the Eros Center (that might have been, or not at the very spot of Alexa - CJ, have you still known an Eros Center at Alex?, when I came there was only a car park at that place they built Alexa on), over and over, how there was this big shopping arcade inside. He repeated his memories of his visit at the Eros Center ("I have been there! In the Eros Center!") and about how amazing the arcade was like 10 times, when finally his mum said in slightly annoyed tone: "Why are you always going on about that Eros Center?". Her boy: "Just because of this great arcade they had inside...". And so on.

It was grand, a live comedy show during half of my my morning commute :D

Today, feeling adventurous, I bought a packet of seaweed imported from China.

This is the information provided by the manufacturer:

The FHENGZHENG series of the instant natural edible seaweeds, which are chosen from the tender seaweeds, are made by advanced technique. We keep the natural nourishment of the seaweeds. While tasting toothsome, our products contain many trace elements that human body needs, such as iodine, calcium, iron and many vitamins too. Our product is eatable directly, and they are highgrade health care snack in cafes and family meals.

Directions:
Open the pack. Stir the vegetable with the condiment in pack. Now ready to serve.

I assumed the poster was Jewish and since it wasn't so much anti-semitic as a play on words, didn't give it much thought.
However, in retrospect I can see how it can be seen as such.

I just came across this site called "Beard Board (http://jefffsbeardboard.yuku.com/)" where...yep, you guessed it - people engage in "discussion of all aspects of facial hair, and where support is most welcome from all comers whether bearded or not."

I love the comments:

Whoa!!! That is one awesome beard! Perfect job trimming it!!!

http://jfalberg.tripod.com/bb/goatee2.gif

I rub my beard all the time. My girlfriend tells me it creeps her out, but I love it. The longer it gets the softer it gets and mine is just now starting to get fairly soft. I also like to rub it when contemplating things . . . just for fun. There's just something magical about a bearded man stroking his beard when thinking. When people ask me questions I stroke my beard before answering them -- it seems to give my answers more weight or legitimacy. It's amusing to see how people respond to public beard stroking.

Shoot Bearded1, don't mess! You look like one bad-a*% mo-fo.

Is that stache wax you got going on? I've got to pick some up and try the stache shaping. I tell you, eating can be a real pain nowadays...

I'm totally considering infiltrating the place to see if I can get them to answer my "urgent shaving questions". :D

I had to follow a detour earlier and saw two streets I'd never passed before, each amusing in its own way:

"TIPS JEWELS
Private Road"

and

"PEARL DR.

Haha. At the end of last year I was on a new bus route, and happened to look up at the street signs and found myself on the corner of IMPERIAL and WALKER. As a Star Wars nerd, I was very pleased.

Yes, I know it was definitely not meant to make me laugh. I shouldn't laugh.
I even feel somewhat ashamed I do. But it's just so comical absurd in its total over-the-top-ness - and in general. Just can't help it! :D
Sorry dear sender, sorry, cos you're a real nice guy and all...
Didn't get an answer to my question, but got another answer, which flabbergasted me for some seconds, but then sent me laughing helplessly..........

To wirte an email in Basque to a friend who is also learning Basque, but I misspelt the adress and now somebody totally unkown to me get this "Hi- my name is"- email "- and my phone number is"-email and so on - but fortunately, the phone number was written in Basque ...

... so this is not to be understood as a "Hi, do you want to have sex with me-my phone number is-" spam-email ... fortunately ...

"panopticist - Late last year a Finnish media artist named Santeri Ojala got a lot of attention for a series of YouTube videos in which he lifted concert footage of various guitar heroes and overdubbed his own intentionally awful playing. The bad musicianship was funny enough, but the verisimilitude made it even funnier: Ojala was great at matching each player’s hand movements and timing, and he sprinkled lukewarm applause and other sound effects throughout. The videos were like alternate-universe versions of rock-god cliches.

A month or two ago, YouTube yanked the videos and suspended Ojala’s YouTube account, apparently due to copyright complaints from several of the guitarists. Many of the videos have now resurfaced on YouTube, and because I never got around to posting them the first time, here’s one of the best.

the lyrics are:
trying to live my life without you, babe,
is the hardest thing i'll ever do

but what i heard was:
trying to live my life without chewie
is the hardest thing i'll ever do

and i decided the song was about han solo's friendship with chewbacca.

because they're best friends.

You're never going to get the cat to stay still in that little box. It's going to get up, and go where it wants.

We have three mats, a bed, a couch, endless chairs and folded up blankets, and a little kitty tent, and yes, Josie uses them occasionally, but she's still quite content to sleep on the hardwood floor.

Yesterday I went down to the tiny skate park near my house to get some action shots.
There was a family there - a father and two boys, each with their own BMX bike, and a younger boy taking pictures with a digital camera. The younger boy saw my camera and started asking questions of this stranger unashamedly, the way that young kids do. He told me he was from Queanbeyan where the skate parks where bigger, and those were his brothers and father.

I had to explain to him how my disposable film camera worked, that it didn't take film clips, that I could only take 27 shots ('daddy's camera takes as many as you want!' ) and that I couldn't look at them until after I sent them away to the camera shop, so I wouldn't know if I made a mistake.

He said, 'I've never seen a camera like that.'
I told him, 'It's an old-fashioned camera.'
Whoa. Times change.

my own adventures make me laugh--

just 20 minutes ago i went outside in my PJs to bring the wheelie bin to the street to be emptied and to reset my parking meter to 10:00-- and when i did all of that and wanted to get into my apartment again, i noticed that the key was all bent, it must've gotten stuck in the lock or something. it didn't fit. um..... oops!

so there i was, in my PJs, with no phone, no access to my house, nothing. fortunately i did have my car keys, so i drove to my parents' house (risking a 200 euro fine for not having my license with me ), looked up my mom's phone number and called her, she came and handed me the spare key to my apartment. i'm so happy her office is so close to where i live :D

what made me laugh today:

my old friend Giuseppe calling me because he heard Hobie on the radio singing his hobiehobieho song and that made him think of me.

we also talked about cars. how my strawberry would tip over when he sat in the passenger's seat, so that the door would scrape over the pavement when he wanted to get out--

how he used to drive a wreck (worse than my old strawberry) that he got for 100 euros (20 for the car and 80 for the stereo)--

how after that he got a 500 euro car and a tour bus made a u-turn in the passenger's door, how this totaled his car and he got 600 euros back from insurance so he actually made a profit on his damn car--

how he now has a seriously dangerous seat ibiza that goes 215 km/h and how he's had it for 6 months and..... he's got 1 huge crack in the windshield, 2 tires completely worn out, parking damage on the side, broken fog lights and now he has a dent in his wheel.

in short: we hadn't talked in, say 1,5 years.. and somehow nothing has changed :D

today i solved my roomate's internet problem (and mine, by extension). She spent at least an hour on the phone at 3AM on friday night with the cable people, screaming her head off at them. The diagnostic was a broken modem, they are supposed to come this wednesday to change it.

Tonight i looked at her modem and saw a little black button on the front of the modem that says "internet on/off". Roomie had been plugging/unplugging the modem repeatedly without pressing this little button. Problem solved.

I think she hates me now :D

I heard this song on the radio and was laughing and saying how much I liked it (my family really did not believe that I had never heard it before)::

Get a haircut and get a real job

:I was a rebel from the day I left school
Grew my hair long and broke all the rules
I'd sit and listen to my records all day
With big ambitions of where I could play
My parents taught me what life was about
So I grew up the type they warned me about
They said my friends were just a unruly mob
And I should, get a haircut and get a real job

CHORUS
Get a haircut and get a real job
Clean your act up and dont be a slob
Get it together like your big brother Bob
Why dont you, get a haircut and get a real job

I even tried that nine to five scene
I told myself that it was all a bad dream
I found a band with some good songs to play
Now I party all night and sleep all day
I met this chick, she was my number one fan
She took me home to meet her mommy and dad
They took one look at me and said, "Oh my god!
Get a haircut and get a real job!"

CHORUS

(Get a real job, why dont you get a real job,
get a real job, why dont you get a real job)

I hit the bigtime with my rock and roll band
The future's brighter now then I ever planned
I'm ten times richer then my big brother Bob
He's got a haricut and got a real job

CHORUS

(Get a real job, why dont you get a real job,
get a real job, why dont you get a real job)

copy and pasted from The Dictionary Game:

kakistocracy, n. an autocratic government ruled by pastry chefs embracing the core belief that cake is the staff of life. Emblazoned on the nation's flag is the immortal "Let them eat cake." In a kakistocracy, bread is strictly outlawed except on the chef of chefs birthday. The practice of involuntary venesectomy, once embraced by the earlier kakistocrats, was banned in 1888 by Chef Angelcake.

Seeking asylum from the slings and arrows of The Dictionary Game critics, Ysapur and Treekisser eloped to the little known nation of McArthur Park, a kakistocracy nestled in the foothills of the Cheesecake Mountains.

Every time I try to be serious, compassionate and thoughtful, someone with a strange piercing makes a latte.

JIMMY:
Picture you upon my knee
Just tea for two
And two for tea
Just me for you
And you for me...alone-

[DIALOGUE]

JIMMY:
I'm discontented with homes that I've rented
So I have invented my own.
Darling, this place is lovely oasis
Where life's weary taste is unknown
Far from the crowded city
Where flowers pretty caress the stream
Cozy to hide in, to live side by side in,
Don't let it apart in my dream-

Picture you upon my knee
Just tea for two
And two for tea
Just me for you
And you for me alone NANETTE:
Nobody near us to see us or hear us Mm, mm, mm,
No friends or relations Mm, mm, mm,
On weekend vacations Mm, mm, mm.
We won't have it known, dear,
That we own a telephone, dear...

NANETTE:
Day will break and I'll wake
And start to bake a sugar cake
For you to take for all the boys to see

BOTH:
We'll raise a family

JIMMY:
A boy for you
And a girl for me

BOTH:
Can't you see how happy we would be...

I love the stapled-tie one; I wonder if that would really work?

sorry to go back,

but frieda, why would he begin to think that you'd enjoy having that as a permanent bedmate?
