Fortunately, I got his email addy through work when a friend here volunteered to get her GS Troop involved in getting a care package together.
We've been communicating fairly regularly mostly so I could keep him updated on when it'd be sent off.
Those Girl Scouts are gonna do him and his crew proud! From the way Sally describes it, they've got a huge box they're putting everything in and will ship via a friend's USAF connection as it'd be so expensive to ship via regular mail!
lala, if you're emailing him regularly, let him know it'll be going out on Thursday.

Yes, after this weekend, you guys should stop sending packages... Shortly I will be moving locations and there is going to be a general disbanding of the Military Escorts... it is far enough in the future that all of the packages will make it before we move, but I don't want anything to get lost in the system... and yes, the original list has kept all of us happier than you could ever imagine... my tent has become the central rally point for like 45 people... it looks like a literal open air market in there... recently the two old guys from my tent went back to Baghdad and that made me tent chief, so we got a television and a DVD player and just re-arranged everything so that we can live with more comfort... and a pantry full of goodness thanks to you guys.

Willow, thank you... I don't know what I am going to do when I get back to the states with this over inflated ego.

Well, on the Paige front... Bad story by the way... She sat me down when I told her to have a nice life and told me her story.
She is still going through a divorce (red flag #1) when she first got separated she went on a f*@#ing spree to get even with her soon to be ex (red flag #2) and she tried to break as many marriages as possible (red flag #3) that is why so many of the cops that are here know her as the "party favor" (red flag #4)... afterwards she got mad at me and moved on to the next guy that happened in, who happens to be married himself... and just a few days ago I went to smoke and overheard a conversation between her and six other guys that went, no exaggerating, "so you have a d#$% in your mouth, one in your a@#$ and the guys are going at you like a rotisserie chicken", at that point I was thoroughly disgusted with my self and felt physically sick so I left it alone and went to bed....

I use a Camelbak daypack when I hike. No matter how far I go, I never seem to be able to empty it. Of course, I'm not hiking in a desert, although the seashore can come close sometimes.

I don't swear by the thing... in fact I use it very little... after it get's drained the first time I have to ask someone to actually fill it back up for me because it is on my back... it is just really a pain. I prefer to just drink from the little plastic bottles they give us. :)

Wunnerful for skiing... though of course, skiing, one is surrounded by water. It just takes a lot out of a day on the slopes if you keep having to stop and look for non-yellow handfuls and warm them up to slurping temperature.

I actually carry a water bottle and filter when I know I'll be hiking near a water source. I have emptied it a few times. It can be a pain in the ass to get everything back together, though, because the water bladder will only go in it's place if the pack is empty.

I also read that the *ahem* "effluence" problem at the base camp on Mt. McKinley has gotten so bad they have to bring in bottled water sometimes. That's seriously pathetic when you can't melt ice for drinking water on a mountain covered in ice!

I am going to Phoenix and Vegas after all of that is over though. We are soldiers and this is what we do. We are not paid to see the big picture and we don't get overly involved in politics. If you just say thanks to a soldier, even if it is for getting out of your way on the sidewalk, just a simple "thanks" with nothing else attached, it will bring back memories of the things we have done and the places we have been and the stuff that we have seen... and for one fleeting moment it will make us feel like maybe we have made a difference by serving our country...

Actually, that's what I was referring to as well. For your sake I really hope you get rid of the mindset that must create fairly quick when you get home. You seem to have a pretty level head about life, but we're getting story after story here about soldiers from Jacksonville who come home and go off the deep end.

Tentatively we'll eat at a restaurant Klynne's brother recommends and then go to the Telfair Museum of Art. (http://www.telfair.org/)
All this means chores done on Saturday and recovery on Monday!
On another note, I still haven't killed the orchids I bought! Hearing from one of the Marketing Directors at the Nemours Foundation that he killed $1000 worth of orchids in one fell swoop makes me feel pretty good about myself! :D

I don't think it is going to be a high-tail it kind of thing... it never is with the unit I am attached to... we have started to make arrangements already...

Not a whole lot is up for today... Goodwin went to the hospital because he was having bad headaches... so I guess the nurse asked to see me too... then we had to tell her all about yesterday... then she told us that we both suffered some serious inner ear trauma (http://www.enh.org/encyclopedia/ency/article/001064.asp) from the mortar that almost got us... that and the ringing might not go away for a week or so...

When I was little, I used to get ear infections a lot (I did a lot of swimming :)). I didn't know what I was doing at the time (not until I was in college and studying music did I have a name for these sounds) but I would imagine the partials being generated by the ringing in my ear caused by the infection. I imagined symphonies! :D (Really heard them, too.) Too bad I didn't know how to write them down... ;)
