Yesterday, I got a postcard from Sparticle and one from Daverbee.
The one from Daverbee has a pic of his fave flower (the Fragrant Water Lily of Georgia's Okefenokee Swamp) and the one from Sparti is of Cleveland at sunset, its sky ablaze (NOT its rivers!!).

Okay - this weekend I am *definitely* going to pick up some good cards & send them out...
I've received a number of them (can't remember who-all from 'cos I'm at work - I know from Avalon, Trish, Funky, daverbee...Oh! how could I forget... I got a beautiful one from Aphro...)
Better late than never! :)

I sent a batch out yesterday and took them to the post office to let them figure out the stamping buisness...the guy was having too much fun sizing all of them up and figuring out the exact amount of postage for each...slow day for him I guess. I also bought a grip of postage...every denomination they have it seems like- HEY- I just realized there isn't a "cent" sign on the keyboard, huh, I'm not so observent I guess...the post office guy asked me if I was going on vacation....I smiled and made up a good story, why not.

Oiginal artwork by our Audreyvgs! Thanks!
FYI, my orchids are all doing wonderfully. I have one phalaenopsis and a mini oncidium which are blooming prolifically. One dendrobium and another phal which have been in bloom for close to a month now, and yet another mini oncidium which just dropped it's last bloom.
I'm so proud of me!
All of them will be long gone even as your card still sits where I can see it, though!
Red, our Postal Service sent yours back again! I'm gonna ditch that one and send another. Sorry for the delay!

This hooker put the love in the mail yesterday.
However, the USPS might fark with it as it is oversized and an odd shape
So, if it isn't there in about 10 days, I will have wasted about $30 dollars on great cards and postage. GRRRRRRRRRR!
But, heres hoping they all get to where they are going!

I am mailing some of round 3. Might be a small problem however. They are oversized, odd shaped cards that claim you only need letter postage. I am not putting my return address on them because they end up mailing them back to the sender (USPS, Mensa they aren't). If you do NOT receive yours with in 10 days, please let me know and I will send another round. My best ideas are always foiled by the postoffice, I swear. lol
that is all, I now return you to your regularly scheduled thread:)
Ya know, instead of your return address you could put the address you are sending it to.

The City of Jacksonville hired a PR Firm to come up with a theme we can use to "sell" the city during the Super Bowl next year.
A lot of the residents here figured it was a contest and that they could win the $91,000 the city paid the PR Firm by sending in their ideas.
Our local newspaper took some of the suggestions and designed postcards around them. (Sorry, they aren't really available)
The ones they posted on the front page of the paper today include:
Jacksonville: City of Lighted Bridges
Jacksonville: Under Construction
Jacksonville: Like Mayberry, only bigger
Jacksonville: Giant Cockroach Capitol of the South

Ha! You talk like you live here! It was worse when they had toll booths at two different places on I-95!
Right now they're working on a big interchange at the junction of I-95 and I-295. They estimate it'll take another two years to finish construction. This after they've been working on it for two years.
And people wonder why I don't use the interstate?

And you're in Texas, no? You play Texas 42?? I can't imagine how you could worry about it, unless you're worried about how long it will be before you get to play it again!

Guess I better be a good monkey and do some catch up here! So far, I've received:
1 - Funky
2 - Daverbee
1 - Aphro
1 - Sparticle
1 - Aud
2 - Red
1 - Spicy
2 - Pfp
1 - Dev
1- Avalon
Looks like only Dev has received anything from me? Postcards must take ahwile, I sent them off a week ago! I was thinking, what a very nice thing this really is. You'd think sending a little ole' postcard isn't such a big deal... in my hectic life, buying postcards, getting postcard stamps, writing them out and actually getting them sent *is* a big deal time-wise. But I think everyone will agree that the benefit of that mailbox moment of "Monkey Mail!!!" is just so worth knowing that someone else took the time to make that little ole post card happen. I have to fight my kids for my monkey mail now - even they look forward to it hehee.
Lets all join hand and sing Kumbayah now shall we? ;)

Found three more in my mailbox today! This has made it fun to check the mail again...something to look forward to besides bills and offers for credit cards.
The three today were:
Another from the lovely Magpie of a not quite so lovely headless chicken. Mags, I prefer my chickens headless and plucked, too. Preferably covered in Popeye's spicy seasonings and sitting beside a bowl of red beans and rice!
One from the lovely Deviate that posed a very interesting question. My guess is the two women...
And one from the lovely Frieda with a beautiful sunset above the canals of Amsterdam.
Thank you, one and all!
(Edited to add, ally, I dropped one in the mail for you today. Too late to send you one from Savannah but it is a Savannah postcard.)

Spicy (2nd one) - If I get any strange phone calls, I'll know it's you....
Red - The rock formations in Fort Davis look really interesting - not boring. :)
Xerocs - Thank you for taking the time to send me one! That's about as close to Iraq as I ever want to get.

1 from Ms Spicy waxing poetic on the 'talents' of her trusty mailman. ;)

Guilt trippin'!~
OKOK, I feel reeeeally bad now and PROMISE to go get more cards soon. I got three great cards today, one from Deev with a somewhat ominous patient's-eye view of scary surgeons, and two from Magpie. One of Magpie's depicts Colorado's Alfred Packer, "America's Favorite Cannibal." It even tells how in his honor there is a restaurant in Boulder called the "Alfred Packer Memorial Grill." I have to show it to all my friends who have for years poo-pooed my idea for "Donner Brand Jerky," which I think would go over quite well with the Tahoe ski crowd. (Interested investors, feel free to contact me via PM to discuss dollar amounts!)

LOL!!!! Now I understand, Dave. I had my zemonkey logic wrong.
I think now that you mean:
Spicy gets Monkey Mail + Spicy gets mail from grandma = Spicy's grandma is a Zemonkey.
I read it at first to mean:
Spicy's grandma is senile + Daverbee is accusing all zemonkeys of senility = Spicy's grandma is a Zemonkey.
It took me a moment to figure it out (but then, like all Zemonkey's, I'm a bit senile.)

Didn't you read that article in the Wall Street Journal, translated from Le Monde, where this HUGE battle is raging in Paris over whether government resources are best spent by this new policy of having French postal workers scrutinize all foreign postcards for pictures of people who may look French, and then track down the models or people who happened to wander in front of the camera when the photos were taken, and then call them up to see if they are really French, or just put on French accents to be silly (which is acceptable because of some loophole amendment that one of the socialist candidates tacked onto the bill at the very last minute before this new package of laws was passed), or put on French accents for personal gain, which is now strictly forbidden (except in Germany, where it is strictly verboten)?

Also, and I think I learned this from an old Pink Panther movie -- or was it from the first season of CSI, Marseilles? -- much like gunshot residue, the butter that rubs off an authentic French croissant is hard to wash way, and can usually be detected by crime lab employees with the proper scientific devices, even long after the croissant has been eaten.
So if it's a French arm, they can usually tell.

ATTENTION MONKEY MAILERS!!
I thought I should point out that the photo you found in your latest monkey mail is NOT NOT NOT of my family.:p
Someone I dearly love thought it was my family and has given me the biggest laugh I have had in 2 weeks! (I think the original photo can be found on some mullett site. ) But I gotta tell you, I am still laughing at the thought of my husband with a mullett:eek: I can't wait to tell him about this:)

Oh, yeah, that reminds me -- I got a great photo of Avvy and her family in the Monkey Mail....they look like Siegfried and Roy do their hair, with those manes.

I didn't get a pic of Avvy's family.
I did, however, get a nice picture of Bald Bob the Table!
I also got a nice cow picture from the lovely PFP! Who would have thought they had cows in 'Sconsin! :D
Thanks to both of you!

Another great reason to live in a tourist town...
This weekend I was downtown near where the bajillions of tourists wait for hours for butt-busting rides on the cable cars, and I realized that they sell San Francisco postcards 8 for a dolllar! I bought a HUGE stack of them.
Now if I can only find some cheap immigrant labor to fill them out and address them all!!
;)
8 for a dollar???? they're bllody 35 cents each here, rip off i tell you.

It's our only bargain. A two bedroom house here costs $1.2 million.

I arrived home to find four post cards.
Pretty one of Niagara compliments Aphrodite
Dairy Cows from PFP
I think the state capital from Mr. Smarty
and a Gator from Daver.
Thanks guys.
I did not send any from LV. Sorry. To be truthful I would have had a hard time writing them. I will get some out this weekend. Klynne

a funny card from funky with a drawing of a toothed tuba, a delightfully silly french-folded card from Avalon, and a pretty, chatty card from Aphrodite.

That's City Hall. Its construction and reconstructions have made it a quite-spectacular monument to the egos of numerous San Francisco mayors. It's considerably nicer (IMHO) than the state capitol.

Suggestion: for all you US monkeys, the postage due on lala's card will be 26˘.
Mrs Funky happened to be home when our mailperson came by, and she paid for me.
Leave a quarter and a penny in your mailbox and the mailman might just take it and leave lala's postcard.

I think I got that one, Dev. I'll look forward to the next.
Came home today and found a soggy card from Funky thanks to the mailman being too lazy to pick it up off the floor of the front porch, putting it in the mailbox with all the other mail, and keeping it out of the rain. It's currently drying in the kitchen. Still legible, however, so thanks!

That batch was addressed pre-Funkina, and I just take one lunch hour a week to eat and write them or address them or shop for new cards or whatever the next batch needs. that's why they sometimes have olive oil or other random grease on them.

are you sure? some others in this little mailing circle were casting aspersions upon my penmanship a while back... that's why I stuck to only drawings for a while. In other news, I got your alligator card. There are things I miss about the southeast and Okefenokee is one of them.
In still other news, my next cards have been purchased and will be addressed and composed over the next few weeks. The subject matter should be of interest to many.
got another one from funky this morning, made me smile, cheers!

I'm sure. Every word.
It's too hot to go up there now. Only hiking I'll be doing for a while is behind the lawn mower. No canoeing.

I'm such a fookin' slob. All this shite with Son and all has made me lazy. Plus I've been blessed with an overabundance of work. And the sun was in my eyes -- lost the ball in the lights -- the power went off in the night -- the car broke down -- the cat ate my postman.....
