I'm just celebrating the fact that Marcus Bales has re-invented himself, even as I mourn the passing of the original Marcus Bales - who inexplicably disappeared for three whole months not so long ago, remember? And then mysteriously "reappeared"...

YsaPur EsChomuw
01-02-2010, 02:15 AM
Wait! What! No way!

Is that a hint that he WAS the original Marcus Bales and THIS is just a fraud masquerading as him?

What if the original was kidnapped by some UFO and in the meantime they made a copy? And not even Marcus Bales himself knows he's not a veritable Marcus Bales??

I think it needs further investigation...

If you are a Normal? Person there's no Word for it. There is a paragraph (or chapter) to describe the thoughts and written words for which you just experienced. And suppressed giggling is involved.

Um nextdoor? Wait - like at work or your apartment? If it is apartment nextdoor, ick.

I know I've told this story before, but I'm reminded of the first apartment my husband and I shared - the floors were so thin that when someone dropped a drink upstairs, it would dribble through the floorboards of our living room ceiling. When someone sneezed, we always exchanged gesundheits and thank-yous. Which was interesting. But our neighbors always forgot about our proximity in the bedroom....

"I love it when you speak French to me. Speak French to me."

I confess, while in the city I am a serial jaywalker but I don't know if maybe all city children once in their life are taken to the scene of an accident with a jaywalker and made to watch as their relatives cry over the mangled remains but I missed that early conditioning so sometimes I skip across even when there aren't other jaywalkers at the same time who might be hit first which i think is the idea of when people do it in groups.

Brynn
07-12-2010, 10:48 PM
Thanks, Ysa, now it makes me feel a lot better.

edited to add: - at first I felt was just a little better, and then I felt really bad again so I cried, and then I started feeling a little better again, enough to receive Ysa's empathy, which then opened the aperture for more comfort, and then I felt a lot better and more resolved to look on the bright side. Ysa's note has been very instrumental indeed to my present equilibrium. My respect for her as a generous entity is once again validated. Thank you.

And I also respect ironicgoose's candor, his quite understandable lack of empathy for a complete stranger notwithstanding.

We (my sis, my daughter, my niece and I) just watched two slugs having slimy slug sex while they were hanging down on a brick wall attached by a single strand of mucus. 10:30 pm eastern time. My sister's patio. August 6, 2010. This was one of the weirdest things I've ever seen. google this if you dare. ;) (Their organs are blue! and they come out of the side of their heads!) Is that a teaser or what?

Brynn

Jack Flanders
08-07-2010, 01:13 AM
YES!!!!! And we were using a flashlight so we think we distracted them and so prevented one of them from biting off the other one's blue penis. Weird, weird shit!!! Not to be obsessive about this BUT then the blue sex organs went back into their necks, they uncoupled and then went their separate slimy ways. they can each produce slug offspring which freaked my sister out!! She is deathly afraid of spiders too, and I certainly used that as a older sibling control tool. Don't ask!

Connoisseuse of Slugs
Sharon Olds

When I was a connoisseuse of slugs
I would part the ivy leaves, and look for the
naked jelly of those gold bodies,
translucent strangers glistening along the
stones, slowly, their gelatinous bodies
at my mercy. Made mostly of water, they would shrivel
to nothing if they were sprinkled with salt,
but I was not interested in that. What I liked
was to draw aside the ivy, breathe the
odor of the wall, and stand there in silence
until the slug forgot I was there
and sent its antennae up out of its
head, the glimmering umber horns
rising like telescopes, until finally the
sensitive knobs would pop out the ends,
delicate and intimate. Years later,
when I first saw a naked man,
I gasped with pleasure to see that quiet
mystery reenacted, the slow
elegant being coming out of hiding and
gleaming in the dark air, eager and so
trusting you could weep.

My eyes - involuntarily - read iconicgoose instead of ironicgoose. I can't help myself, every time I think: "What could an iconic goose be? What could it look like? What does it do?" and similar thoughts just before I realize I did it again, of course it's not iconic, it's ironic.

I have never wondered the same way about an ironic goose, though.
