Mira peed on my jacket when I carried her into the veterinarian today.

Mira has a virual infection that is affecting one of her eye ducts.

She is on eye drops every 4 hours.

She also needs to go on a diet. When the vet picked her up to put her on the scale he said "oh, your a fatty".

I think she is as addicted to tuna as I was to nicotine. I don't think Mira is gonna like this...

I am always revising my "no questions asked" list.

The guy who plays Marshall on "Alias" is on that list.

I am hopelessly attracted to nerds with big shoulders, big noses, or big chins.

I'm 24 and have still never been kissed, which means I find my life lacking.

The only thing that keeps me from writing the next great American novel is the fact that I don't have a computer to write it on that my parents can't get to, because the section about "the big o" would totally freak them out, and I don't want to not include that--don't want to be discouraged from adding it.

Are we talking about out of control screaming and running here? Or just your run of the mill, happy kid noises?? There is life after children. Are you suggesting the parents find a sitter and eat out alone at all times? Part of being a family is dining together; I commend parents for including their kids in this experience.

I am talking about parents who let their children SCREAM either in anger or in joy for extended periods of time while in a public place.

Part of being a family is dining together, there's no question about it, but part of the dining out experience FOR OTHERS means being able to relax and unwind and actually HEAR what the person across the table from you is saying without having to shout over a child at the table next to you who is pounding silverware on the table, fighting loudly with his little sister, or just screaming in a whining fit because he's two, he's hungry, and there isn't any food in front of him yet.

I am suggesting that if a child is too young to control, they SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED to be out in public with the rest of the civilized world until they learn some manners.

Unless, of course, we're talking about Chuckie Cheese or something.

spoken by someone who has no children, am I correct? A person who thinks children should be seen and not heard? Or maybe shouldn't be seen either from the sounds of it. Doesn't sound as if you like them very well on the whole, so it is probably a good thing you don't have any kids.

Where and how do you think children learn social skills? By being kept at home til they are of legal age? How old were you when your parents allowed you to leave the house in a social situation? Were you constantly left home?
Or were you that rare perfect child?

Suggestion: next time you find yourself in the position of having to be in public, ask to be seated where there are no children and where none will be seated while you are there. Or just stick to the bars; I don't think it is legal to take a child into one. And stay out of Chuckie Cheese or any other place that dares to advertise they are a "family" restaurant or establishment. Because forewarned is forearmed: people are going to continue take their kids out to eat; and believe it or not, it is going to be because they enjoy it and not to irritate you.
Oh, and before you reply, know this: I will not argue with you on this subject.

I love kids but I think there are restaurants that are appropriate for families and ones that are not. If I’m paying top dollar for a meal I do not believe it’s the appropriate place to be teaching children social skills (and most of my married w/ family friends would agree). By the way I’d just like to point out that I’m not “arguing” just stating my opinion. I believe it’s equally as rude to think that children should be taken everywhere with you as it is to think they should always be left at home. One should use common sense and common courtesy when trying to decide what is most appropriate.

Wow, I, um, think you took my posting kinda personal.

I love children, have been a nanny for three families, one of which had six children, and, I might add, they loved me, too. I'm still in touch with them.

I don't have any children, and there are plenty of people in the world who don't.

I never said children should be seen and not heard. Where did you get that?

Here's what I said: "I am talking about parents who let their children SCREAM either in anger or in joy for extended periods of time while in a public place. ... I am suggesting that if a child is too young to control, they SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED to be out in public with the rest of the civilized world until they learn some manners.

Where and how do you think children learn social skills? By being kept at home til they are of legal age? How old were you when your parents allowed you to leave the house in a social situation? Were you constantly left home?

Where in my posting did I say that children should be kept at home till they are of legal age?!? How in the world did you get THAT? Two-year-olds do not learn social skills by eating out at Chili's with their parents. Typically, they learn that at day care, or with neighbors and friends, and then at school, where children should be developing even more social skills.

I left the house on my own from the age of 5 on, to visit friends across the street, but I'm not sure what that has to do with parents bringing their screaming children to restaurants and making the rest of us (parents and non-parents alike) endure it.

Suggestion: next time you find yourself in the position of having to be in public, ask to be seated where there are no children and where none will be seated while you are there.

Did you think I didn't do this already?

Or just stick to the bars; I don't think it is legal to take a child into one.

So you're saying that people who don't want to listen to children screaming when they eat out should be forced to eat in bars??? Is that what you just said??

And stay out of Chuckie Cheese or any other place that dares to advertise they are a "family" restaurant or establishment. Because forewarned is forearmed: people are going to continue take their kids out to eat; and believe it or not, it is going to be because they enjoy it and not to irritate you.

I don't think parents bring their screaming uncontrollable kids out to dinner to annoy me; that is just a by-product. What annoys me is that parents seem to think they have rights that are superior to everyone else's, and they don't seem to care how their badly behaving son or daughter is affecting other people -- people who also go out to eat to have a good time and enjoy themselves. The difference is, MY enjoyment doesn't infringe on OTHERS' enjoyment.

Oh, and before you reply, know this: I will not argue with you on this subject.

Why would I want to argue with you? Or did you mean that you didn't want me to respond to your posting?

I don't even know you, and frankly, I'm astonished at your response to my posting. You took it all so personally. It wasn't intended that way.

chuckie egg
02-07-2005, 06:09 PM
I can't believe you dont celebrate Pancake Day!!

Its 40 days before Lent, which is a time of abstinence, of giving things up. So Shrove Tuesday is traditionally the last chance to indulge yourself, and to use up the foods that aren't allowed in Lent.

In the old days there were many foods that observant Christians would not eat during Lent: foods such as meat and fish, fats, eggs, and milky foods. So that no food was wasted, families would have a feast on the shriving Tuesday, and eat up all the foods that wouldn't last the forty days of Lent without going off.

I.E. PANCAKES YAY!

Most of Britain eat Pancakes on Pancake Day.

religious thing...we call it something else..."fat tuesday" or "punchi(sp?) day"

Mardi Gras literally means "Fat Tuesday" in French. The name comes from the tradition of slaughtering and feasting upon a fattened calf on the last day of Carnival. The day is also known as Shrove Tuesday (from "to shrive," or hear confessions), Pancake Tuesday and fetter Dienstag. The custom of making pancakes comes from the need to use up fat, eggs and dairy before the fasting and abstinence of Lent begins. :)

I should have listened to Clytie's sound advice.

Just sent my resume to apply for a drama teacher position at a high school.

My neighbor Ron, who, in a fit of random rage, cut down all six beautiful plum trees last year that bordered my back fence just told me he's started AA, and has been struggling with a meth problem.

My husband just upgraded his cell phone and now has a cooler one than mine.

There's this recluse guy named Steve who calls me long distance once a month to play the latest song he's written, and to ramble incoherently about Charles Bronson and Stanley Kubrick. He reminds me a little of Lidbot, whose posts I enjoy.
