****
"Our schoolmaster used to take a nap every afternoon," related a disciple of Soyen Shaku. "We children asked him why he did it and he told us: 'I go to dreamland to meet the old sages just as Confucius did.' When Confucius slept, he would dream of ancient sages and later tell his followers about them.
"It was extremely hot one day so some of us took a nap. Our schoolmaster scolded us. 'We went to dreamland to meet the ancient sages the same as Confucius did,' we explained. 'What was the message from those sages?' our schoolmaster demanded. One of us replied: 'We went to dreamland and met the sages and asked them if our schoolmaster came there every afternoon, but they said they had never seen any such fellow.'"

For Mr Zerö, a wind-report:
The Wind Will Take Us
In my small night, ah
the wind has a date with the leaves of the trees
in my small night there is agony of destruction
listen
do you hear the darkness blowing?
I look upon this bliss as a stranger
I am addicted to my despair.
listen do you hear the darkness blowing?
something is passing in the night
the moon is restless and red
and over this rooftop
where crumbling is a constant fear
clouds, like a procession of mourners
seem to be waiting for the moment of rain.
a moment
and then nothing
night shudders beyond this window
and the earth winds to a halt
beyond this window
something unknown is watching you and me.
O green from head to foot
place your hands like a burning memory
in my loving hands
give your lips to the caresses
of my loving lips
like the warm perception of being
the wind will take us
the wind will take us.

http://www.zefrank.com/bulletin_new/images/icons/icon14.gif^ it's a veryvery thing, so it is. over time, many copies of it have passed through my hands and quite recently i bought yet another one (that same edition as yours above) just because i saw it there and it was saying "buy me". then, on my morning rounds a couple of weeks ago i saw this (http://www.offoffoff.com/film/2001/ny50s.php) and i wondered if the cover is genuinely unchanged from the 50's or if there's some photoshoppery afoot in the picture.
I found this (http://www.poets.org/viewmedia.php/prmMID/20201) (which is interesting altogether):
The books in the Pocket Poets series were slim, undersized volumes, about 6 by 5 inches, usually with simple black-and-white cover design and typography. Symbolically, the material form of the Pocket Poets suggests that the book holds something written for everyone, regardless of class or educational status. The Pocket Poets were designed to fit in the palm of the reader's hand and in the back pocket of a pair of blue jeans.
(...)
Of course what sort of books one reads is also an indicator of social status. This is another realm in which Howl and Other Poems is a great book—it betokens its readers' status as rebels and nonconformists. This status inheres in the physical design of the book beyond its being a paperback original. The size and shape of the book itself, along with the content, speaks to issues of class and conformity. Even today, the power of this counter-canon is made evident by the simple fact that the design for the Pocket Poets edition of Howl and Other Poems hasn't changed in the 62 years since its publication.
So I think it's not photoshopped! :)

I am not around much
and am observant even less
so I'm just getting around to realizing there may be some need to say that as these things don't go in sequence, I wasn't talking to you.
There may also be no need.
For various reasons.
One of the possible ones being that you weren't talking to me.
One can never be sure.
I found this (http://www.poets.org/viewmedia.php/prmMID/20201) (which is interesting altogether):

I've often wondered if Veruki
Rhymes with cookie or with spooky,
Not suspecting ki'd be kah.
And I will bet a lemoncello
Stephi's bra-tender would bellow
If I brushed against her bra:
"Stay the hell away from Stephi!"
(His voice is in the treble clef -- he
Doesn't much inspire awe)
I would say "I'm not romancing,
I just came here for the dancing --
Get away from me, Francois."
And by the way, what kind of bouncer
Flutes his voicings like a flouncer
And answers to the name Francois?
"Where is V?" I'd say, disguising
That my up had not been wising,
“Bring martinis with foie gras.”
Holy shit, look at these prices!
“Coke, for me, with two lime slices,
Straws for two, and oysters, raw.”
Here I sit, the tall guy, waiting,
Sipping Coke, anticipating,
Lonely vivre losing joie.
... so I'm just getting around to realizing there may be some need to say that as these things don't go in sequence, I wasn't talking to you.
There may also be no need.
For various reasons.
One of the possible ones being that you weren't talking to me.

there's a projector with some kind of computer program that when you stand in the light motionless, projects some kind of trees or plants that start to grow from your silhouette and if you move, they disappear.
Can you kindly help me to find this post again? Thanks.

alas i fear we're merely being probed by a band of wee marauding bots as they try to find the way in

Locked in, cul de sac.... mmh? ....nah, not hell, t'is like Kreuzberg 61-89 (I happen to watch the docu channel often while curing my flu, and there is a lot of this 20 year anniversary stuff going on), so we can play football on the streets (that is what a friend and time witness always starts his nostalgic accounts with), and drink beer in cosy corner pubs with funny-weird names and have wee adventures in an urban village (this is what I know from the novel Herr Lehmann) and wait and see. ;)

Stranger: Anything else?
You: Just one question
Stranger: go ahead.
You: Can entropy ever be reversed?
You: or, rather
You: How can the net amount of entropy of the universe be massively decreased?
Stranger: The amount of running-down of the universe is described as entropy. And no, It cannot be reversed
Stranger: For instance, You can't turn smoke and ash back into a tree.
You: What if I had a really, really strong glue?
Stranger: That would not be entropy.
Stranger: Thats building a tree out of smoke and ash, using really strong glue to create it.
Stranger: there is a difference
Stranger: anything else?
You: I guess not.
Stranger: Thankyou for your time
You: I was hoping to reverse entropy for the science fair next week.
Stranger: That would be rather evenfull.
Stranger: I do not recommend doing this.
Stranger: anything else?
Stranger: The internet is very busy right now.
You: I understand.
You: Thank you, internet. I will never forget you.
Stranger: Nor shall I forget you, stranger.

Robert Peel, later Sir, invented the modern police force, including all the nepotism and corruption that goes with it. If you were related to Sir Robert, known to his family as "Uncle Bob", you could get things done, or not done, very quickly. Soon enough, if you had enough money, or something else, to trade, then Bob would be your Uncle, too. So to get something done or covered up could be pretty pricey, but it could be done quickly if Bob's your uncle.
And naively I thought nepotism in the police force is rampant only in backward countries like Slovakia...

A song sung by Milarepa at Chuwar
May I meet again in the Buddha's Pure Land
Those who saw me or heard me,
Those who remember my story,
Those who have only heard of it and of my name.
May those who emulate my life and meditate,
Those who ask for, narrate and listen to my story,
Those who read and venerate it,
Those who follow my example in their lives,
May they find me in Buddha's Pure Land.
May those who practice the Dharma through asceticism
Harvest immeasurable merits.
To those who encourage others to follow this path,
Immeasurable gratitude is due.
May those who hear my story receive immeasurable blessings.
Through these three immeasurable blessings,
May those who only hear my story achieve liberation,
May those who meditate upon it fulfill their aim.
Milarepa

Mo has decided to raffle herself off tho the highest bidder
baggage ::
1 husband
1 daughter
4-5 attendants
fine print:
(this is forever as in the rest of her life)
it is a every 6 months for 6 months deal
the other 6 months she will stay at her
gurus' ashram
if allowed
otherwise,
the top two bidders will both win
Mo has decided to raffle herself

why, mo? why?

Let's hear the latest on your moms then.
Mine has died twice. I got her back both times, but it doesn't stop me worrying about anyone.
lukkucairi
06-30-2009, 06:59 PM
she had a bronchoscopy today, but now there will be no official diagnosis til July 8
saw papers we weren't supposed to see yesterday morning while waiting on blood test - googled term METS (wrt lungs) returned "metastatic cancer" :(
though as I said, still no official word, but doesn't look good - her symptoms would support the diagnosis of primary lung cancer with mestastases - her sister and I are talking about moving her back across the Atlantic while she is still well enough to travel so that I can care for her without being isolated from my husband and all my friends and family - she has nobody over here except bridge friends.
I am so tired and so stressed out.
where's Frieds? how's her mother? I'm not doing a very good job of keeping up on the main parts of the board right now. just spitting out my zombie apocalypse dreams one after another.
brightpearl
06-30-2009, 07:40 PM
^Sometimes METS can mean "metabolic syndrome" in handwritten medical notes -- it's very common and might be relevant to some diagnoses...but of course if it was in notes particular to her lungs, I share your worry.
It sucks to be living through a zombie apocalypse, doesn't it?
:(
The bastards take everything, eventually, but that doesn't mean we have to be graceful about it.

Oh, and I second the call for an update from Frieds.
:)
lukkucairi
06-30-2009, 07:53 PM
yeah - she's had a cough for several months and it's now quite bad, and she runs a low-grade fever constantly. her blood pressure is a little on the high side of normal, but I don't know how that would feed into the diagnosis. she's recently begun to develop urinary incontinence, and her digestion is no longer regular. other words in the diagnosis box were hard to read but started with "bronch-" and "plast-". she also has a history of cancer - was treated about 14 years ago for uterine wall tumors, and recovered completely.

I know it's rough. I've been there. And I hope it'll be many years before I have to be there again.
Don't forget to look after yourself too. Any opportunity to get a few hours rest, take it.
Take care.

ok, an update.. to be honest i have no idea how my mom is doing. she was diagnosed with breast cancer at the end of april, it was just a tiny tumor, about 4mm. she had surgery the end of may and the cancer was twice as big and had spread to her lymph nodes so its pretty aggressive. the wound has heales nicely but because she suffers from severe depression (which she obviously denies) i dont expect her to get better. i cook her dinner every night after work and listen to her cynical, self-destructing ramblings.
i hope your moms able to heal lukku :)

oh Frieda I'm sorry, that's so hard.
my mother still has no *official* diagnosis, but she's convinced herself that she's dying. she spent the day yesterday cancelling all her magazine subscriptions with little handwritten notes saying "I have enjoyed your magazine however please stop sending them as I have a terminal disease."
I don't know what to think. I really don't.
