^that one's actually a dust devil, not a smoke column - there are always a lot of dust twisters out on the playa but this year was remarkable - we had them every day. after a while I began to think of them as alive in some way - spirits or souls or small gods.

on the drive back to salt lake I saw at least one in every valley - they didn't stop until we passed over the utah state line

i don't think i've told anyone this before

i was visiting a woman at the time because of my leg trouble, she taught me a bit of the amma method of meditation. i don't think she was supposed to do that but ok. she dragged me to this huge event which was totally weird in order to get the deeksha, a blessing. there were so many people there, with stands and people selling stuff. i was scared because i don't feel comfortable in crowds and especially not in crowds full of fanatics and frankly i was scared shit because i wasn't able to move around very well.

sooo my friend gave me a hugging ticket for a specific hour of the day (yeah, really), she took my hand and just pulled me into the hugging line. we had to wait for an hour and after some face wiping and being pushed over by amma's helpers i got hugged. and when amma hugs you, you're hugging yourself. that's what the deeksha is about, to rediscover that big blob of love inside yourself.

I have an assignment for school and need somebody to PM me everything they've eaten in the last 24 hours, including beverages, and their best guess as to the amounts. It's just an exercise in calorie counting and doesn't need to be perfect or anything.

One coffee with 2 tbsp half and half
1/2 c of melon/grapes/strawberry slices
One airport Quizno's packaged muffin (by the taste and the glueyness I'm going to say about 400 kcal)
One airport salmon panini with capers and onions (I would give the salmon content at least two proteins, plus say 1/4 c of the veg and a complimentary for whatever sauce they had on there -- this is Canada's Food Guide language, you may require translation)
One more coffee with 2 tbsp half and half, but only half consumed
One fast food hamburger with mozza and bacon (standard sesame bun and beef patty, 2 slices bacon, 1 slice processed mozza, garnished with Thousand Island dressing, pickles, onions)
A half dozen french fries with ketchup (blech, get those things away from me!)
6 oz root beer
4 oz cabernet sauvignon

I read an article in my roomate's toilet edition of Glamour explaining the effort & cost of getting rid of a tattoo. They highly recommend seeing a dermatologist, so trying to get rid of a $20 tattoo can end up costing zillions of dollars.

^It'll be while before I have any disposable income, so I haven't gone through the full decision-making process. I still think about it frequently, though, and have even done a couple of sketches.

Having it there while wishing it wasn't there would be part of the point of the thing, so can't imagine having it removed if I got it...

Other than money, most of my hesitation comes from fear that they all use car paint, as Auntie mentioned.

I have general electrical device trouble. I've had two computer help desk guys from places where I work tell me that I have some kind of weird EMF. After watching my desk computer do one thing when he typed on it, and another when I did, one of them told me I should have my hands kirlian photographed. :)

I had the wiring redone in my house, thinking the old stuff was the problem, but I've still blown 2 outlets since then. One of them melted. I've had 3 cable modems in the last 2 years, and 3 keyboards in the last year. I can't keep digital clocks -- they reset all the time. I use very little electricity, so it can't be that I'm overloading the circuits, and I swear I do not bang on the keyboard.

Several years ago, the light on the ceiling fan above me exploded. The bulb and the glass housing. My mother has looked at me sideways ever since. :D

Every printer I've ever owned works fine for a few months, and then eventually it starts shooting out pages and pages with a few characters of wingdings printed on somwhere randomly, even when I'm not trying to print anything. If I turn it off and unplug and such, sometimes it will reset, sometimes not.

And I had to go to voicemail on my landline years ago, because every answering machine I've ever owned fritzed within a few months. The tape ones begin endlessly fastforwarding and rewinding the tape over and over, even when no one is leaving a message, and the digital ones reset to the robot voice every few days.

I have a couple of friends who roll their eyes every time some computer-assisted device freaks out when I'm with them. They swear it hardly ever happens otherwise. I always tell them they're just paying attention to it when I'm there. But even people who don't know me well seem to notice...One of the checkers at the grocery store teases me about how often the card reader and register monitor freeze when I go through her line.

Dunno.

hm - you've got a bad case, girl :p

about a decade ago I dated a guy with similar issues - he was a computer tech, and got that way because every time he touched one it died, and he'd gotten VERY good at fixing them.

one day he was complaining about the number of 3.5" preformatted floppies that came out of the box unreadable. his colleague said 'what do you mean, I only ever find 1 or 2 in a box of 500' - this led to argument and the resolution to test his uncanny powers.

ex and colleague sat down with 1000 fresh preformatted floppy disks, randomly shuffled into two stacks of 500, and stayed after work with a case of beer. all they did was test the formatting on the disks. at the end of however many hours this took, my ex's pile of duds was several dozen disks tall, and the other guy's pile contained 5.

he used my old IBM 350c for a while and the screen started to get these weird red patches of dead pixels :p

he also claims that he has and uncle whose skin eats metal and who can't wear a watch because his sweat corrodes the back completely away within weeks (for a cheap casio) or months (for something in an expensive alloy).
