^^^ :D That was beautiful, Brynn.
And THANKYOU Perla, I just made myself a 'cup-cake' and I am eating it out of my favourite mug with a spoon. There was no gleeful child to help me but I couldn't help laughing when it started to rise out of the mug. It's better than microwaving poppadums. :)

^^ that's awesome but it's kinda boring too to watch this brilliant farmer's flying crotch for 4 minutes
here's what they said about that at gizmodo:
" The camera only points rearwards at the guy's crotch, but that's probably to show what gigantic balls this guy must have. The guy built this thing out of what looks like dirt and spare parts from broken aircraft, which is pretty much something we wouldn't want to be riding up 300 feet in the air.

Yes, I have been raised microwaving poppadums. The usual way is to fry them in oil but using a microwave means less fat involved. Doesn't taste the same but it's still good. I put three in at once, laid flat between two paper towels and microwave for one minute.
You wouldn't believe how well the cup-cake love is spreading over here! I gave the recipe to all my friends and lots of people I know. At the last report, two of my friends are getting together this weekend and making mugcakes together (they've coined that word already).
Also I am throwing a joint birthday party for two friends on Wednesday when we all have the afternoon off to go and watch a movie, so we're going to make a choc chip mugcake each with birthday candles and take it to the movie :) This little get together is giving me a happy looking forward to it all week.

I've had him bookmarked for a long time, but I finally got around to making this little guy (http://www.nogunarmy.com/necromancer.htm) today. Old style cut&pasting was more therapeutic than I'd expected, plus he adds some more kickass to my desk. My kiddo's class at school had to make little construction paper knapsacks and write out a list of what they would pack in them for survival/fun purposes. My son's list (which is painstakingly illustrated) includes many practical things such as bottled water, an aquarium, and laser guns. And right in the middle, it says, "my mom."

Crashed out short after 2am MET (8pm EST) with the telly still on, CNN running (same with my new Spanish officemate as I just learned), McCain leading, many yellow states.... woke up at 6:38am MET (0:38am EST) and after figuring out where/why/when/what and clearing my eyes I saw this number: 338 :D So infinitely COOL!!!!
And then, meanwhile equipped with tea and marmelade chiabatta ;), I switched up and down all the news channels heard this class speech (WOW!!!), saw scenes from the parties at Times Square, Chicago etc and heard about how fair and uniting McCain reacted, and somewhere they said it is for you like it was for us when the Wall fell (really??).... that's all so :):):):)

After 8 long, horrifying years, I can say out loud that I'm an American.
I can finally say it with no sense of irony or shame.
My faith has been restored. The majority of voters in the U.S are good, intelligent people.
He's my president, but he's globally elected. Look at him. Bill Moyers said "He's got the bloodlines of the whole world running in his veins."
He's the face of what America really looks like.
In all of the eight consecutive national elections that I've participated in, Barak Obama is the first winning candidate I ever had the privilege to vote for who was my first choice, not a weary compromise of some kind.
He's my generation.
For the first time, I too have a representative, a voice in government.
Here in Portland, the downtown streets were spontaneously flooded with jubilant celebrants after his speech. Everyone was crying and hugging and whooping and laughing.
In my entire life, I have never ever ever seen such a thing after an election.
In Washington D.C., people literally danced and sang "Obama!" outside the gates of the White House.
I pictured that little man who has been pretending to run things inside, and actually felt sorry for him. Briefly anyway. A flash of sadness, and then I just felt joy.
That evil, lazy, lying bum is OUT of there.
I might as well be in an alternate universe. My country has changed its metaphor and eased around a corner. A great weight has lifted.
The dreadful history of slavery and guilt that has darkened the landscape has been flooded with a blinding light.
In the inner landscape of people's hearts, everyone can stretch and breathe and say yes.
In the fearfulness of terrible times, we have a president who is the best of who we are, and he, like the country, says no to what has gone before.
Waking up with nagging cynicism and bitterness every day for such a long time has been more exhausting than I'd ever admitted. I really have never known what hope for my country, my family, my neighbors, my fellow citizens could feel like.
"Twas grace that brought us here thus far, and grace will beat us home."
It's euphoria. Amazing sweet.
Jesus, I'm happy.

This morning I found a feather. I picked it up ragged, and stroked it until it was smooth. It was velvet black, soft and shiny with blue and purple and brown. It wasn't very long, but it was very wide, and I spent all morning carrying it, careful not to lose it, running my fingers along the vane which was extraordinary like alien silk.
Then I left it by accident in the library. It was an hour later when I got back and it wasn't on the desk where I had left it, nor on the floor, nor anywhere I could see. I was so very upset about losing my beautiful feather that I didn't want to leave without it, so as a last resort I asked the librarian if she had seen a black feather - and yes, she had found it and put it aside in case someone had lost it. It was a very, very big happy :)
Now I have my beautiful feather on my desk to remind me of beautiful things like serendipity and feathers.

My vis-a-vis neighbours: they took down my garbage bag together with their bags - just like that!! :) (they, like me and many others in this house have the habit to deposit garbage bags in front of the flat door till bringing it downstairs - the package postman gives this house habit always slightly disgusted looks and comments ;))
We then had a nice post-it conversation (they enjoyed giving a neighbour a happy :)) and I'm gonna bring down theirs too when I go with mine! :)

In New Mexico, the chimps lived in solitary confinement in tiny concrete cells. In the sanctuary they reside in groups on 3.5-acre islands, where they run free in the grass, climb on jungle gyms and laze in hammocks.
“It’s really exciting and emotional for them when they go out on to the island for the first time. Often they will hug and kiss one another as if to say, ‘Look at this, it’s all for us’,” Ms Feuerstein said. There is no man-made boundary to keep them on their islands, just tranquil moats, and the only fencing is around the buildings where they sleep and feed. Staff are not allowed to touch them and public access is denied.
In confinement, their diet consisted of monkey chow, akin to dog biscuits. Now they have fresh fruit and vegetables, plus treats such as sunflower seeds hidden inside tennis balls and bamboo filled with peanut butter. Staff serve 1,925lb of apples, 2,520lb of bananas, 840lb of oranges and 980lb of tomatoes a week. The annual food bill is about $450,000.
Lists taped on the kitchen walls note the daily menu, along with reminders that some chimps have food allergies: Gabe cannot eat mangoes, for example, and Rowan has peanut allergies.
“Chimps are remarkably forgiving. If I had been in their position, I think I would probably hate the entire human race — but they don’t,” Ms Feuerstein said. “They warm quickly to people who treat them with friendliness and compassion. That’s all they ask.”

This gives me a huge personal happy - first because it was shot over the course of a few hours at the M.A.C. - my second home where I teach. Second, that girl singing at the end is Amy Jo, my boss, and third, it documents so many props that we keep backstage that invariably end up in all the shows we direct. That green leotard was last worn by a nine-year-old. I especially love Amy's look at the end...

^ Sort of in the same theme - This afternoon I followed a frazzled young dad with his young son into the ATM area. He did his business and left with screaming child in tow. I went to plug my plastic in but it was jammed. Dad had left his card. I got it out and ran into the parking lot to stop him. No, he didn't run me over but almost. Ideal gases (with it's atoms or molecules being these friendly elastic spheres without no volume of their own) always have given me happies, so I try to explain to you xfox :):
These spheres they'll always be moving around in their volume V (box), the faster the higher a temperature T (i.e. more energy) they have. Even at T=0 Kelvin they have this mysterious (quantum :)) zero-point-energy. But this is for another day. Let's have some real word T and have it fixed. Now the spheres bump each other and the walls of the box that has the volume inside. The more often, the less free range (i.e. smaller volume in 3D) they have moving along their straight line ways. Now in the - elastic - bumping events nothing "happens", the spheres just change directions, their speed (it's not the same for all spheres - there's this Boltzmann distribution) and thus momentum stays the same. BUT imagine you where the wall - the smaller the volume gets, the more gas spheres hit you - that's the pressure p, the number of hits, kinda.

Boyle's Law continued: (actually also the force of those hits - but we have a constant temperature and thus a costant speed/momentum distribution).
Also if you'd were a spectator sitting inside the box you'd get more hits/pressure the smaller the volume/box gets. Now this Boyle found for (real, but behaving quite ideal) found by measurements that p times V gives a costant value for each T, these are called isotherms and their formula is pV=const(T) and they are usually plotted with V as x-coordinate and p as y-coordinate.

No, I will teach them all the chemistries (and/or physics and/or maths) - but I'm you know the ersatz for a teacher who's just ill, having a baby, doing a rehab - or for a school who can't afford or can't get a "proper teacher" (:):) btw, Kreuzberg really really wantzzz me, got a 2nd offer with a personal meeting next Friday :):)).
But I'm parallel on the application list for the procedures to become a "proper teacher" (who earns more and gets lifelong position thingies :D), gotta wait still a while though as I've not studied the teacher thing, am a side-entrance person you see ;)
But as Kreuzberg (which obviously scares many proper teachers for it is multi-cultural and rougher than spoilt Mitte or tamed Prenzlauer Berg or my sweet - but just now hipper than everything  - homeplace Friedrichshain, from these I haven't heard no nothing yet) wantzzz me so, and the more if it treats me good also jobwise (partywise it DOES already :)) I will stay with the Kreuzbergies also when proper and all ;)
Thanks a bunch Stephi. That's so good of you to elaborate! You're headed for a life of success and satisfaction.

Great news, Stephi!! I have been thinking of you about both those things and am glad they're developing in the ways you hoped. :)
Zero is right...You will be a good teacher. Half of it is the ability to understand and explain something that you find interesting, and the other half is to have a natural tendency to be upbeat and encouraging (for use when someone doesn't understand easily), and you have both of those.
