Kazuo Ishiguro: Never Let Me Go

It's one of the best books I've ever read. And I read a lot.

Tunesmith 02-27-2008 02:15 AM

^ Love that book - I think I was depressed for days after I discovered there was no such recording as Songs After Dark... Have you gotten to the part where they visit Ruth's "possible"?

(I started this afternoon, and I plan to be done by 2 am this morning)

YsaPur EsChomuw 02-27-2008 03:53 AM

Actually I was re-reading it. The first time I read it I couldn't sleep properly for a few days. It was so strong, so sad, so disturbing.

I'm glad you like it, too.

It's written perfectly. I love its impassionate style.

Tunesmith 03-16-2008 01:53 AM

I just started

and although it's hilarious, I get slightly depressed each time I finish a chapter...poor Mr. Pratchett. :(

YsaPur EsChomuw 03-22-2008 03:36 AM

I'm nearing the middle of the book and it's getting less confusing, but still, I'm intrigued in an not-entirely-pleasant way. There are many surprising things, but mostly it's beautiful. I love the flow of images the words evoke.

'Voices', an illustrated anthology of poetry from various sources. The illustrations are not directly related to the poems, but are often indirectly related in wonderful ways :)

(I've never read them in English so far + I needed my dose of fairy tales ;))

Nope, first edition 1989. Sent to me by a friend who spent most of her childhood living here and there in Asia as the daughter of the last American ambassador to Burma. Sorry for hijack, also reading:

^Ohhhhhhh. Flashback to 1994, when I was reading that in Arizona, and digging a really big hole, both literally and figuratively.

A Black Rose

A black rose can stop the beat of ones heart
A black rose bring the scent of death as it tears love apart

A black rose makes nightmares reality
A black rose fills my life with uncertanty

A black rose is forgoten hopes and dream
A black rose is a broken man laying in tears and painful screams

A black rose is the pain of a widowed wife
A black rose is lost love in my hopless life

A black rose is the memorys that haunt my restless soul
A black rose took everthing from me that once made me whole
