Conservatives vs Liberals

Conservatives seem to have higher standards for others than they do themselves. Liberals tend to have higher standards for themselves than others.

Conservatives call this being a "wimp."

hmm?

Raise the common denominator. Things that happen today were unheard of in my parents day.

Now, anything goes!

Loui 05-14-2004 01:13 PM

To explain: I've been exposed to many knee jerk right-wingers lately and I'm irritated about them continually calling knee jerk liberals "wimps." So I started this thread, you know, itching for a fight. Sorry to be cryptic.

To respond to xfox: my father, born in 1920, would tell you as he told me that much of the same stuff happened way back when -- people just didn't talk about it so much.

Certain things couldn't have happened due to technology, but I don't think the human heart hasn't changed much. I recently read an article about the brain being able to speed up to match the rate of data but emotions are stuck in the slow lane. (I can't find the link -- it was something I saw on Yahoo.)

I'd vote for the grilled cheese.

Loui 05-14-2004 02:00 PM

Ok. I knew this was a stupid thread two seconds after I clicked submit. Point taken.

I like fried egg sandwiches.

masterofNone 05-14-2004 02:36 PM

nah, this is a good thread. it just needs some nurturing. i think i wrote a long time ago somewhere around here that the argument between liberals and conservatives seems to boil down to two epithets... "Meany!" "Pvssy!"

Loui 05-14-2004 04:12 PM

Good one. Here's a recap plus a couple questionable ones -- maybe someone could think of some better ones:

Conservatice vs Liberal

1. higher standards for others vs higher standards for self

2. meany vs pvssy

3. old testament vs new testament

4. hawk vs dove

But seriously, I think it's an interesting topic, as well. It's just that each side has their pro's and con's and "aint neither of 'em gonna change the mind of the other."

Spicy Jack 05-14-2004 08:39 PM

1. higher standards for self

2. meany

3. both, duh!

4. hawk

5. grilled cheese sandwiches

done, easy!

Loui 05-14-2004 10:34 PM

Darnit, came back to add the grilled cheese vs fried egg and you beat me to it.

Smartypants 05-14-2004 10:37 PM

Don't forget:

coerce money from religious TV viewers vs. give to public television

;)

Mr. Smartypants,

How about assassins for Christ ?

 Huh, whu? Sorry, I don't follow. (Although there certainly are a lot of assassins for Christ -- and Allah -- out there, aren't there?) :(
