so did anyone see the football yesterday?
austria - croatia: i was expecting a bit more football and a little less theatre from the croatians, instead the austrians started to play better every minute during the game, they gave everything they had. croatia can consider itself lucky to have won! and germany - poland! i'm always impressed how the germans take every chance they get to score. they can play a crappy match and still win in the end with this quality. it's something us dutch lack, we get a million shots on goal but none ends up in it. that aside, i enjoyed watching the game, the 2nd goal by Podolski was an awesome one, from the book. the polish team did well. |
oh come on, doesn't anybody watch the tournament??
|
See other thread ;)
My money is on Portugal though :) *awaits wooden shoe flying in direction of head* :D ;) |
nono.. no wooden shoes flying yet.. i still have to wear my orange ones for the match tonight :D
i have to admit, that even though i KNOW FOR SURE the NLs are going to win, my money is also on portugal.. they beat us 2 years ago in a very violent match. i just hope we're going to win tonight against italy.. it will be tough, hopefully all the italians will be sent off with red because of their theatrical qualities :D |

Only in the last World Cup they sorta played cool, easy, so I for the first time ever supported them. What is even more embarrassing is that unlike in the World Cup where it was such a relaxed party feeling, the football-patridiocity has set in again. I was lying there in my bed fighting with me headache and outside they were going as if we'd won at least the final  |
^^:D
Oh, that's tough, Bella Italia! (Oh, I also supported them(*) in the World Cup - so I won too in the end :D, nay, but this time they don't get my support, not that they get too used to it ;)) Fingers crossed!! Oranjes go! go! go! :) (*) yes I know, one should not support so many teams - but I just can't decide :D In the World Cup I cheered for like 7 teams... |
^^ aw, sorry you were feeling bad! the oranje madness has kicked in here too, the shopping centre is filled with orange flags and balloons and whatnot, and the street my parents live in also has flaglines across.. and i just saw someone with an orange pippi wig passing by downstairs! :D i think it's time to bring out my own oranje attire :D
^ you support the dutch tonight, hmm? 20:45h sharp :D |
jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaa!! :D :D :D
omg what a match-- first that weird offside goal that turned out not to be offside due to some weird rule nobody knows about-- then 2-0, then 3-0.. against the world champion! omg!  ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Surely the orange plastic hair should be dusted off for such a momentous result. :)
|
"Wankdorf Stadium"
 |
^i know! :D
^^ i have rubber hair here's a pic from 2 years ago: ![]() i also have a huge hangover |

OK I missed the first 25 min cos I missed the fukken train, but THEN I came out of the subway, rushed around the corner to the first bar/cafe/restaurant (all places had screens outside on the street) and GOAL :D I went one block further, just in time to watch another GOAL :D, then I came in the dead part of my street (no bar/cafe/restaurant for like 400m) so I walked fast, rushed upstairs, turned on telly. OK then was the halftime break, so I took a shower, but then I was back, I drank orange juice to enhance the Oranje power (from my pirate smurf glass to join forces with you Frieda ;)) and some time later: GOAL :D Oranje babes = good babes :) I say go! go! go! they go goal! goal! goal! I'm pleased and totally in love now and it will be very hard to stay loyal with the Portuguese babes.... ;) Who's Portugal?!? Pfft.... OK they can be the final partners of Oranjes, but else... :D |
Btw I noticed yesterday that my new and currently favourite handbag is orange :)
An omen ;) Frieda, today 18h sharp Russia needs support to crush Spain!! :D |
i'll be there supporting Czar Guus & his team.. the dutch are everywhere! :D
too bad Don Leo lost with poland to you guys ;) |
^I know! :D
(But with respect to the NL population in my hood you guys gotta watch out, there's a Spanish immigration wave going on since last year ;) also French and British wanna compete with the Dutch -- as they cannot on the green lawn elsewhere ;)) G would have never won without Podolski and he's Polish, have you seen how he jumped into the Polish ranks after the game was out (saw that yesterday in a summary, had to update what I missed on Sun) and hugged all his family and friends there - so cute!! :) |
oi steph-- 1-0 for spain!
|
Oi, 4:1... do svidanya Russki babes :(
|
did anyone see tonight's match switzerland - turkey?? aw man, incredible, a monsoon, lots of headwounds, pretty interesting and exciting till the end!
|
^Just parts of it, on the go so to say.
The kiosk owner told me some more this morning. (Türkiye, Türkiye, yay!) What's the bet for the on-going game Croatia vs. Germany? I say 2:1, I'm unpatriotic today ;) I should go to see the 2nd half -------> |
i say 1-2, i think you'll make it :)
here's some pics from yesterday's monsoon, i think it's amazing they were able to play at all (mind you, this is in the early evening, way before sunset): ![]() ![]() |
oi steph..... 1-0
|
Darn, I really should have bet all my money on that 2:1 :D
I'll be there & all for ORANJE 20:45 CET! :) Don't see no result yet, but c'mon, France, they should be easy after the Italy thing! |
What a game!!!! :) :) :) :)
Frieds, you're already in a happiness delirium, I figure? :D (Btw, the whole bar where we watched it was pro-Oranje... well, with the exception of my friend ;)) |
OH MY GOD :) :) :) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
They call it "revolution in orange" here :D
|
Hope you come back soon Frieda.... (:()
....so we can discuss that thriller of a game (Turkey vs. Czech R.) yesterday  :D :) I think that been one of the most exciting footie games I ever saw! Contrary to the Greece--Russia thing on Sat, I was happy my Russia won, but the football was quite low quality on both sides, only in the end there was some good action (from the Russian babes more :)) |
'TÜRKIYE, TÜRKIYE!'
Turkey Fans Fill the Streets of Germany The party was unprecedented. Following Turkey's improbable Euro 2008 comeback win over the Czech Republic on Sunday night, Germany's Turkish community took their celebration onto the streets. The centers of Germany's big cities were transformed into seas of Turkish flags on Sunday night as tens of thousands of football fans took to the streets to celebrate Turkey's improbable 3-2 comeback victory against the Czech Republic. In Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne and other cities, Turkey fans paraded through streets in car conveys, honking their horns and shouting "Türkiye, Türkiye" after the final whistle of the EURO 2008 game on Sunday. On Berlin's famous Kurfürstendamm avenue, traffic came to a standstill as 25,000 fans celebrated their team's win. "I've never seen anything like this in my life," a jubilant Turkey fan told the German news agency DPA. In Kreuzberg and Neukölln, two other parts of the city with large Turkish populations, ecstatic fans danced on the streets and set off firecrackers. A police spokeswoman in the Kreuzberg district said: "There's a total party atmosphere." The mood was very different earlier in the evening. Many Turkish fans had already resigned themselves to their team's going out in the group stage. At a public screening in Hamburg many of the nearly 5,000 Turkish fans had gone home early while their team was losing 2-0. But an amazing comeback by Turkey -- three goals in the last 15 minutes -- secured victory and a place in the quarterfinals. "It's like a miracle," said 20-year-old Okan Türk, while celebrating the victory with friends in Hamburg. maw/dpa Some piccies here and here and here :) |

To the uninitiated ear I might sound Austrian if I speak my dialect BUT: I am NO Austrian at all!!! And my compassion goes out to Vanya who lives just a stone-throw from the Vienna fan-mile... i.e. centre of possible Ösi-madness. So dear Austrian team: Loose, or my friend does not get his well-deserved sleep, OK? ;) |
congrats! :D
|
:D
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Ballack = good babe! :) And I've never before seen that the trainer gets thrown from the field  I thought I've really seen all after that on Sun where close to the end the Turkish goalkeeper got a red card & was replaced by a fieldplayer (so good there was no penalty shooting!!!) Anyway, Germany will get a major asskick by Portugal... unless they find their fire of 2006 again and give like 200% more than in the last games. |
What are your guesses for tonight?
I say 3:2 for Netherlands and 1:1 in the other game. |
^you guessed wrong :p
quite a boring game from the NLs though, i even got distracted (watched it at home) and started doing dishes & laundry :o good thing the analog signal from the pub downstairs in the street is 1,5 seconds faster than my digital, so as soon as i heard cheering i ran to my tv and watched the goals being scored :D |
^:D
Yes, football prophecy never works twice in a row... just like winning at sth like pool billard, table football or so. Puh, then I haven't missed anything, only saw the last like 3 min. So... it is time... to announce... my QUARTER FINAL BABES ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ :) |
Look, there's a new Registered User, Soccer-Euro!
I keep my fingers crossed for the Turkish team. :p |
^He/she/it better does only post Euro 2008 related spam ;)
Ah, the Ural-Altaic language family sticks together :) |
Yeah, blood will tell, eventually.
Ural-Altaic must overcome Europe! :D |
