mosquito bite! (warning: disgusting pics)

so i got bitten on my leg on saturday night, and now it looks like this:

in the middle is a small spot with tiny little blisters and around it it's all red and the skin is hard.. i mean, wtf do i put on it??

look at the size:

i put arnica on it to reduce the swelling and that worked for a day, but it's so bad now.. even arnica doesn't work.. :(

any suggestions?

Audreyvgs 08-09-2004 03:08 PM

That's a spider bite, hun.

Frieda 08-09-2004 03:15 PM

we don't have spiders that bite over here! unless it came in a banana crate or something.. what would you do with a spider bite?

it's not a wasp or a bee sting either.. that really hurts when it's just happened and this only itched at first!

daverbee 08-09-2004 04:10 PM

Looks like a spider bite to me, too. Hate to tell you this, but you need to see a doctor.
If it is a skeeter bite, you've had an allergic reaction and should see a doctor for sure!

lvlycwgirl 08-09-2004 04:25 PM

GO SEE YOUR DOCTOR NOW !!

I thought I had an ant bite last year on my hip....2 days later I had an open wound the size of a half dollar and a drain tube to release the poison.

Seriously, it gets worse by the hour....don't wait (i have a nasty scar to prove it)

lvlycwgirl 08-09-2004 04:26 PM

Oh, and the the blisters are a dead give away.....

Frieda 08-09-2004 04:36 PM

okay, you guys scared me enough.. going to call the doctor!

lvlycwgirl 08-09-2004 04:38 PM

does it feel hot?

nycwriters 08-09-2004 04:42 PM

Heh. That looks like the start of this:

It started as a blister, got infected and they had to scalpel out a chunk of my elbow to make it go away.

Pretty ain't it?

You're welcome! :D

lvlycwgirl 08-09-2004 04:46 PM

Mine looked almost like that !!

Frieda 08-09-2004 04:49 PM

shit nyc! i don't think i want that!!

lvlycwgirl: yeah it feels hot.. hot and itchy!

i just called the doc..
doc says it's unlikely i was bitten or stung by any other insect than a mosquito or a red forest ant as all the other insect bites or stings hurt a lot more.

i can go and pick up antihistamin tablets at the night pharmacy, swab the blisters with alcohol and cool the whole thing.. she said if the antihistamin works i don't have to come by.

if the thing stays the same size i have to show it in the morning, and if i start feeling weird or feverish i should call immediately..

off to the pharmacy then! latersss...

It's not a mosquito bite !! Is it hard around the outside edges?

Remember, mine didn't hurt that bad either. I thought it was an ant.

Let us know!

zenbabe 08-09-2004 05:25 PM

yeah, totally a spider bite. I hope the meds work frieda!!!

I am so worried about mosquito bites here, 230 people have gotten west nile so far.l

Frieda 08-09-2004 05:39 PM

AllegroNg 08-09-2004 09:25 PM

but don't do the oral and then use the cream!! You can actually overdose that way..so pick one and one only. The Dr. has spoken:p

madasacutsnake 08-09-2004 11:38 PM

It's a syphillis canker.

melissa 08-10-2004 02:17 AM

Frieda, how's your bump doing?

PenelopePitstop 08-10-2004 02:26 AM

Honey, that looks positively frightful. I hope you've seen a Dr. about it.

madasacutsnake 08-10-2004 04:09 AM

Not if that is a canker. Nuhuh.

nycwriters 08-10-2004 04:11 AM

Why pretend you don't have it? It's ok. You're amongst friends.

weissenflatz 08-10-2004 11:50 AM

Frieda!

Can you give us an update?

I agree with you, that it would be really weird to be bitten by a spider in Holland. That just doesn't happen. Ever...

Good luck anyway!

Avalon 08-10-2004 12:12 PM

If you have it for a while, can we name it?:p

really frieda..how the heck is that thing today? If it isn't 100% better..get a second opinion on the cause.

Frieda 08-10-2004 08:13 PM

you want to name my mosquito bite?? how about "stinking****ingitching%$*&sonofabitch"??

it's not a 100% better, but much much better than yesterday. the blisters disappeared, and the big round swollen circle around them is now again soft tissue, with tiny little bleedings right under the skin. it's too dark to take a pic now, but it looks like one of those marks that Gorbachev has on his head.

i did go to the doctor this morning and she said that it all looked as if the antihistamin was working properly. so yay! :)

dinzdale 08-10-2004 08:14 PM

Damn. If you had your leg off, you could be a real pirate with a wooden leg and stuff.

Frieda 08-10-2004 08:26 PM

how about if i stick my hook into your nostril ye scurvy dog!
