Lost
We'll see if this thread takes off or not...
Here we collect things that have been lost - on the internet, in our minds, in the laundry, whatever. I like the idea of things being brought to light before fading back into obscurity... |
the word
althesdi Nobody knows where it came from or what it means, at least as far as I've heard. |
One time, while searching in my grandparents' attic, I came across an old cardbox box in between the slope of the wooden ceiling and an old metal radiator. Wedged inside was a smaller box, containing hundreds of letters written in spidery script, and a number of objects wrapped in paper. These turned out to be starfish, and amazing specimens: fine brittle skeletons with a mosaic pattern of spines. Each one was unwrapped carefully, brought into the light, then placed back reverently in its wrapping.
My grandparents sold that house a couple of years ago to move closer to the rest of my family, and I've never known what happened to that box. |

wee tommy york out of the radioheads even lost HIMSELF!
have you heard him sing about it, all plaintive and mournful like? he goes ♪Phew, for a minute there I lost myself♪ i love when he sings the word "phew" his loss is our gain |
I remember when my Dad told me there was no Santa Claus. I remember the room, who was where and I also remember the feeling of loss. I was wishing there was some way that it could be turned into something unsaid, so that it could be undone but at the same time I knew it was impossible. I was about 8 at that time and was very angry about the whole business of telling the truth about Santa.

sometimes it's the things that you didn't even know you'd lost that you miss the most

Lost opportunity twelve years ago to punch the associate pastor's wife in the guts for telling my sweet five year old daughter that there is no Santa Claus and that anybody who told her there was is a liar and a pawn of Satan.
Since my husband does not believe in the immaculate conception or birth of Christ, and some self-righteous idiot tells his kindergartener there is no Santa Claus, who then tells the younger kids, then what major enjoyment is he left with around the holidays? I guess the opportunity to forgive her isn't lost. Still working on it, obviously :o . |
