toy

This is the thread where we pay homage to favorite childhood toys.

Close as I ever got to a barbie doll. I had their ceramics/macrame studio, too.
What? I was raised by hippies.

Might be strange, but I used to take this:

and this:

head into the bathroom with the lights off, and shine the light up through the colander. I remember pretending that the lightshow on the ceiling was the night sky and naming the "stars" that I saw.

That was fun. I miss those days. :(

Until my brother cooked my Barbie in it...

I forgot about this!!

I guess I had elements of girlyness after all...
But somebody gave me one of these:

and I cut all its hair off and tied it to the ceiling fan.

Bet these gave me brain damage. I still remember the fumes.

...more than meets the eye :)

^^My son is obsessed with those. Obsessed. I have scars on the bottoms of my feet from stepping on their sharp points in the dark. And I have to transform and/or repair them for him constantly, because they are a flipping bugger sometimes.

He also loves to play with my originals of these:

I love him so much I let him. :D

My childhood friend Akira used to have this hammer that would make the sound breaking glass whenever you whacked something with it.

I have no recollection of it, but apparently when we were three, Akira and I ran around his apartment, whacking things and laughing with glee. I grabbed the hammer, raised it above my head, and brought it down in an arc.

at that exact moment, the apartment complex's recycling dumpster, filled with several hundred pounds of glass and metal, was emptied into a nearby truck.

Our parents attest that they had never seen such expressions of awe and amazement on two kids before. :D
