numbers

4 has always seemed very cooperative to me.

9 is very powerful, arrogant.

5 is rather jubilant, always happy.

3 gets along, with its three huggy little arms.

4 is such a pointy little martinet.

6 holds you a little in awe and can only look at you in sideways glances.

9, look -- you know you're a little overweight. Well, you are!

My friend's sister has mild synesthesia and has always associated numbers with different religions:
  • 3 is Christian (no surprise there - Holy Trinity).
  • 12 is Hindu. I don't know why.
  • 8 is Jewish, I think.
  • and 32 is Buddhist, for some unknown reason.
I've always thought this is awesome. :D

I've always fancied myself to be a bit of a synaesthete. The first time I read about synaesthesia I thought, "Hey, I thought that was just me."
I associate numbers strongly with colours, but sometimes more than one colour. 2 and 7 are troublesome like this. I also see expressions in the shape of the numbers, which is useful because it makes numbers stand out from other shapes.

1 is clean and very bright. Its colour is always near white.

5 is warm and like a husky voice. It is a pink-red or orange-red. It is usually friendly but can be rough by accident.

4 is logical, precise and ordered. It is hard and medium green.

6 is friendly and loving, but 8 is a number that I admire. It has style. It can sometimes be cold.

132 is a bit wild, like a food that has too much sugar to be edible.

178 is mysterious like the drain you explored as a kid.

For an experiment, I just wrote down the numbers 1-9 on pieces of paper and lined them up from lightest to darkest. This is what I got.

It's sometimes said that there are 12 principal dieties in Hinduism although some of them are paired. There is also a festival, Kumbh Mela, which occurs every twelve years, and there are 12 months and 6 seasons in the Hindu calendar.

8 nights of Hannukha?

And Buddha was said to have had 32 distingushing physical marks.

even numbers seem nicer to me than odd numbers.

Very possible, all of them! I'll ask her the next time she's back from college.

Apparently, when I was four and learning to count, I never liked the number 15.

My parents have home videos of me counting "13...14...16...17...", and when asked why 15 is skipped, I reply "I hate fifteen."

I was a strange little kid...

Y'know, it seems like some of those are kind of improbable...

I mean, "eyelashes like those of an ox"? A "torso like that of a lion?" A "head shaped like a turban"?

I guess a modern Buddha would have to undergo plastic surgery for fit those requirements. :D
