Greetings
Readers will be pleased to know that I am now an inhabitant of the Central Time Zone. About as Central as it's possible to be, actually. Fulton, Missouri.
For lunch today I have roast-beef-on-rye and a Pepsi. And (wait for it) a girthy pickle. :D |
hi DC!!
when did you arrive? |
I'm waving to you!! I'm still in Indiana (until tomorrow) but only Illinois is between us!! Can you see me? Enjoy the Heartland of America - you'll have many interesting stories to bring home to share!!! :D :D
|
I got here on Sunday evening. It's HOT here. But I have a big American air-conditioned car so it's OK. And the car goes Brrrrrrmmmmm as it pulls away, which is kinda neat*
(*note how I'm already trying to adopt the local vernacular ;)) |
Dickie! :D
Welcome to the States! We're so happy to have you ; I truly hope you enjoy your stay. ![]() Glad you made it here safe and sound; I hear the heat in MO. is oppressive right now..heed the heat warnings, use the a/c, and have a blast! |
My cousin is a long haul truck driver. He says all the truckers call Missouri, "Misery".
Have you learned to say "y'all" yet? Eaten grits? Gone to a St. Louis Cardinals game? |
I watched the Cardinals beat the Padres on telly last night. It was 2-1 but I missed all the runs as they were in the first inning and I was cooking my dinner. So I watched what the commentators called a "pitchers' duel". Not the most exciting baseball game by any means, though the Padres almost scored in the 9th.
Apparently I ought really to support the KC Royals as the Cardinals are a fake franchise team who move cities in search of money, whilst the Royals are loyal stalwarts. Am I right? |
The heat is nice actually, coming from shivery old England. On Tuesday I was driven into Columbia, MO for dinner, and there's a Hooters there. (We didn't eat there of course). What's that all about? ;)

You call me when you're near the nation's capitol. You'll be sayin y'all before you know it.
|
Have you figured out that the natives call it "missouRAH?"

This morning I went to see if I could get a haircut. The men's barbers round the corner is run by an ex-Marine whose one style of haircut is Clean Marine with clippers. I sat in the waiting area thinking "I don't really want a crew cut, but the longer I wait here the more of a wuss I look when I leave without getting it cut." Eventually it was almost my turn and I RAN AWAY and went to the girls' hairdressers instead. There, of course, there was no-one in the place, but they were "too busy" today to cut my hair. I have to make an appointment and go back. I don't think I'm doing that well at assimilating into Missouri society yet. Still, must keep trying... |

I ask merely for information, I've got this friend who wants to know... |
... tell your friend - sure why not!! I hear the food is really good there!!
|
A visit to Branson may help with your assimilation. I recommend Silver Dollar City!
