Abalone.
the beating heart of a cobra. beluga caviar. |
aloo gobi, baba ghanoush, bagel and lox, baklava, beignets (as well as churros, elephant ears and funnel cake -- beignets are by far superior), borscht, calamari, carob chips, carp, catfish, caviar and blini (never again), cheese fondue, chicken tikka masala, chitterlings (in tripas form in menudo...and never again on that either), clam chowder in a sourdough bowl, cognac with(out) a fat cigar, crocodile (in sausage form), curried goat (no, but I have had cabrito), dirty gin martini (oh god yes), dulce de leche (the good stuff, homemade, not that Dreyer's dulce de leche ice cream crap), eggs benedict, flowers (nasturtiums), foie gras (in pate form), fresh wild berries (black-), fried plantain (con crema...have dreams about it sometimes), frogs' legs (yes, they do taste like chicken, poor little bastards), fruit wine made from something other than grapes (does dandelion count?), gazpacho, goat's milk (kinda tangy, prefer in cracked pepper chevre form), goulash, (filet/sassafrass) gumbo, heirloom tomatoes (a noteable exception to my no raw tomato rule), hostess fruit pie (apple), hot dog from a street cart (the casing was a little more than I had bargained for), huevos rancheros (every damned day if I could), jamaican blue mountain coffee (overblown), krispy kreme original glazed doughnut (HOT NOW), lobster thermidor, mcdonald's big mac meal (long ago in a galaxy far away), mole poblano (over fresh white rice, not to be missed), nettle tea (from my earth mother friend), oxtail (in soup form), oysters (fried, once), paneer, pb&j sandwich, pho (sizzling rice soup is better), pistachio ice cream, pocky (how could anyone resist?), polenta, prickly pear (tastes kinda like a watermelon, looks like a beet), raw scotch bonnet pepper (in fresh salsa form...ouch), rice and beans, root beer float, s'mores, salted lassi (? I've had mango lassi), sauerkraut (once), sea urchin (horrible stuff), single malt whisky, snail (never ever ever again...unless I can just order the garlic butter, hold the snails), soft shell crab, spaetzle, spam (involuntarily), steak tartare (mom got a wild hair once...ugh), steamed pork buns, tom yum (one of my favorite things), venison (poor little bambi was gamey), vodka jelly/jell-o shot, wasabi peas, whole insects (but not on purpose).
Tomatillos should totally be on here. Also chicken fried steak. And breakfast tacos, for cryin' out loud. I've also had javelina, but I don't recommend it. Far more gamey than bambi. |

haven't counted, but I believe I've consumed all of those at one time or another whole insects not on purpose - but whole (raw!) insects nonetheless I will not make the whole list. I draw the line at chitterlings and head cheese...and now my food allergies have put some items off limits and yes I HAVE eaten roadkill - my mother in law hit and killed a young fawn in her driveway a few years back and (practical woman raised during the Great Depression that she is) immediately took it back to her house, dressed it, and threw it in the deep freeze. it tasted AMAZING roasted with veggies and potatoes :) |
^ooh, tell about the absinthe!
And kaolin? As in clay?!? And the salted lassi? Is it fruit-based, but with salt added? I feel Jalapeno Cheetos should be on the list. They rock, and they give you one full day's serving of unholy orange. |
absinthe (unlouched) - a friend brought a bottle back from the Czech Republic in 2006 - I had some at Halloween that year - it made me drunk in the oddest way (though I was already quite drunk), and then I was woken up the following morning with tachycardia - very unpleasant. thujone does not agree with me - I may try absinthe again at some point, but a low- or no-thujone variety.
salt lassi - I'm assuming here it's the same as a plain lassi - just imagine the yogurt drink without the fruit and sugar, and with a dash of salt kaolin - my BFA is in metal and ceramic sculpture - I've certainly eaten a lot of clay by accident in my day, but the porcelain clay (pure kaolin) in particular looks so good you WANT to try a piece. it tastes like...clay :p |
23: venison, nettle tea, cheese fondue, carp, borscht, calamari, fruit wine made from something other than grapes, pistachio ice cream, fresh wild berries, foie gras, sauerkraut, goat’s milk, mcdonald’s big mac meal, spaetzle, beer above 8% abv, s’mores, frogs’ legs, lapsang souchong, hare, goulash (naturally), catfish, bagel and lox, polenta...
and mákostészta, sztrapacska, lapcsánka, rakott krumpli and many other delicacies unheard of! |
