Back to the point at hand
"When a place gets crowded enough to require ID's, social collapse is not far away. It is time to go elsewhere."
-Robert Heinlein Have any of you read "Crito" and "Apology" from Plato's Republic? Yeah, yeah, not since college and it was for a paper. Pick it up sometime. It is the reason why I'm out of the country. Socrates argued what Nekopunk just said so succinctly- if we are to live in a state, we must abide by the contract it sets forth. If we don't like it, we have the option to try to change it or leave. I left. I'm not egotistical enough to believe I'm the man (or woman) for the job. And I have not seen any one person or cause worth lining up behind wholeheartedly. I've seen protesters out on the street for a cause, becoming hoarse shouting their slogans. Meanwhile I'm inside talking with politicians, and making a hell of lot more leeway than they are just because I'm playing the politicians' game. And yet, the more I hear about the state of affairs there, I'm torn. Torn between looking away, never looking back and going back to knock some heads together, Three-Stooges style. And you know who would be first. By the way, MoN, New Zealand is beautiful. |
