dates, garganzola and bacon
ok, so do you fry the bacon up first? Or do you wrap it around and fry it all up together....and if so..how do you keep the cheese from falling out?
|
It is hard to wrap crisp bacon around a date.
Slit the date; fill with gorgonzola where pit was; wrap in pancetta, like a bandage that holds the wound closed and keeps the guts in the date. Cook as directed. (You fry 'em? I think I've only broiled or baked them.) |
I have never heard of this.
It sounds a lot like what we do with shrimp, jalapenos, jack cheese and bacon. butterfly the shrimp and open in up place a piece of jack cheese and piece of jalapeno in the opening close the shrimp back up and wrap it with bacon. grill 'till done. |
gaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh...
No fair posting this. I'm having a very nice crispy *salad* for lunch... *drooool* |
mmmm ... bacon!... it's nature's candy!
What's Jeffrey Steingarten's chapter called in The Man Who Ate Everything? Ah yes, "Salad, the Silent Killer." |
I made this same thing...but I used figs instead of dates.
And the tree is making Figs finally..whooo hoooo. |
mmmm .. figs! I just saw at my corner produce place that it's beginning to be fig season.
- Cut ripe black fig (which kind is that?) in half lengthwise. - brush with balsamic vinegar. - put a dollop of chevre on top. - sprinkle a dash of freshly ground pepper. - bake until warmed through and cheese is melty. mmmmm. OK, now I'm hungry. :( |

ROFL! I read the header and thought: "What the hell kind of a date involves Gorganzola and bacon??? I gotta get out more!" LOL
|
-cut cheese (teehee) into cubes.
-cut bacon into shorter strips, the width of the cheese cubes and the length to wrap them around twice. -wrap bacon around the cheese -put toothpick through -make mixture of flour and, black pepper -dab the each flat surface of the bacon-cheese wheel in the mixture -heat some olive oil in a pan, enough to lightly coat the pan -put flat side of bacon-cheese wheel in oil and let sit for a short time -flip -take out of oil -eat |
