spyware program

What is a good one?

trisherina 10-22-2004 04:15 PM

I assume you want to get rid of spyware, not spy.

Spybot and Ad-Aware by Lavasoft have free versions.

zenbabe 10-22-2004 04:16 PM

which one is better? Or should I get them both?

melissa 10-22-2004 04:16 PM

I have both of those on my laptop at home. They work really well. And they're free!!

Coffee 10-22-2004 04:19 PM

You should have both. I have Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad Aware, and Spyware Blaster all on my machine. They over lap in coverage, but some pick up things others don't.

trisherina 10-22-2004 04:20 PM

I have them both, use them both regularly. Keeps things from bogging down.

Zaftig 10-22-2004 05:10 PM

They are sneaky little bastards.

does anyone else get this message all the time "spybot wants you to know that you are about to download "active a' this is a know threat, do you want to block it?"

I get it all the time, when I click yes, I can't view the page, that sucks!

sparticle 12-17-2004 01:53 AM

Get Firefox, the Mozilla browser, and you won't even have to worry about spyware. It doesn't download ActiveX controls automatically.

Go here:

http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

It's free and it beats the pants off Internet Explorer. I've been using it since early November and I wouldn't go back to Explorer. Ever.

zenbabe 12-17-2004 01:55 AM

can I get rid of ad-aware and spybot if I get that?

sparticle 12-17-2004 02:18 AM

You probably won't need them if you get Foxfire.

Best to check out the specs and FAQ's on the Mozilla site, but likely not.
