What do I do exciting for my 50th?

Couple of us are turnin 50 in the year 2005....its comin up faster than we'd like, but don't laugh, its comin upon the rest of you as well, like that Polar Express (HEY, was that what the ghost charachter represented?)

We need some ideas to bounce around, as I, for one, am a blank. Call me spoiled, but there isn't anything that i can think of to float my boat as of yet...and as a person who's spent 50% of her birthdays in the presence of her parents, I would like to not be there for them this time. go figure.

carte blance, within reason, and no jumpin out of planes...and no sex with strangers, I ....oh nevermind.

Go to Cancun and have a big fiesta! Invite everyone you know and anyone who happens to be around that looks like fun.

Buy yourself a boat. Throw party on boat.

Get your studio totally remodeled and hold a reception for yourself. It doesn't have to be serious, but you could display all your favorite work throughout your career and invite people who have helped/admired/supported you along the way.

Get whatever outrageous item you have wanted for years and have been telling yourself you can't afford/shouldn't spend the money on/should make a low priority. You don't strike me as a selfish person in the least, so I'm sure there's at least one totally outrageous indulgence you haven't sprung for in favor of spending the money on someone else or higher priorities. Take lots of pictures and come back and tell us about it.

Set up a website and ask the significant people in your life to post pictures to it, like an online collage. You can intersperse it with images of your work. (Or you can animate everybody and incorporate them all into a big birthday party scene! ;) )

See if someplace really cool like the zoo, a park, etc., does birthday parties. Or scope out some really unusual location that appeals to you and see if they would be willing to consider letting you have your party there.

I will be fifty in five years and I want to see what you do so I can get ideas because I am a big fat copycat. :D

Is there something you've always wanted to do but haven't gotten round to? Learning how to bonsai? Fly a hot air balloon? Agility train Borzois? Go to space camp? Archery? Sign up for it and pay for it in advance. This will be the year to do it.

I second all of the above. How about a ticket on Space Ship One's next scheduled flight?

Today's 50 is yesterday's 30. So can we trust you?

Get together with some girl friends and go some where for a long weekend. Get movies, lots of food, booze if you want. Bring stuff to do pedicures or facials. It is just nice to get away with the girls and pamper ones self.

Of if you can afford it take a cruise.

My 49th was Tuesday. My friend celebrated her 50th by going to Thailand and touring with her friend who has lived and taught there for 30 years. I'm thinking of celebrating mine by making a 15,000 mile road trip through Canada and Alaska in an RV.
