A girl friend once had a clog in the kitchen sink; called the land lord who came and dumped god knows what down the drain and pronounced it fixed.

Next morning: raw sewage in her kitchen and a $6 thousand dollar repair bill for the landlord.
Oh, my friend also sued him and won over this as well.

I live in an old house in a historic neighborhood, I have tree root/pipe problems all the time.

Try flushing about a cup's worth of rock salt down the toilet every few weeks.

Keeps the roots at bay. Even though it's a landlord problem, you'll really regret it when it backs up into your bathroom like it does to me. :rolleyes:

Ughh. sorry to hear your still fighting that clog Lala. If is is roots, you're screwed till a real plumber can chew through them with a heavy duty snake. If you think there is a good chance it is just "your gunk" down there, a hardware store snake might do the trick.

If you get this type of snake...err...be carefull how tight you crank the handle bolt ;) I've used these several times and found that those types of snakes slip easilly inside the handle unless cranked down pretty hard, but the handle threads also strip easy *ahem* and the snake becomes pretty worthless then.

I'm trying to clear a stubborn kitchen sink clog. So far I've tried at least three bottles of professional-strength Liquid Plumber, dismantled the pipes, used a wire hanger to pull out a bunch of unmentionable horror from the farthest point I could reach... I just poured down about a cup of baking soda and vinegar down there, and I'm boiling some water.



I may have to go buy a snake ...


*BAD ADVICE*

Be sure to get the poisonous kind that will rear up and scare you when you forget and come to put things down the sink. It will save you a lot of money in the end, because the snake will keep people from using that sink and getting more clogged and you can just use your neighbor's sink.

uhhh.....buy a large plastic tub and go medieval on your washing and sink use.

this is the ....ohhh....10 kazillionth time your sink has clogged this year .... give up. Put the plastic tub in the sink --- do your dishes and what not --- then toss the water in the front lawn. Throw all food scraps and whatnot in the trash.

I'm thinking no more acid, no more plumbers. report it to the landlord, so you aren't "responsible" for damage it may cause. Then, under the circumstances, do what they suggest because they still need to protect their property and it can be your fault if it damages their property and you didn't report it.

Well - I think I'll take that advice after I try the snake... that's my last resort.
