smashed

You will never guess what happened to me yesterday.

I'm coming back from luch with a coworker in his car. He accidently runs a stop sign (a 18-wheeler was blocking the view) and we smash into a little red car hauling ass. The force of the red car knocked the car I was in to the right at least 90°. Nobody was hurt.
I called my OB and told her what happened. She told me to go to the ER and have them hook me up to monitors to make sure the baby was all right.
Long story short, the baby is fine, I got to hear the heartbeat for a few hours and I got another ultrasound. I found out the little booger's foot is already 7cm long!
My coworker still feels awful. I am unable to convince him that everything really is ok. Poor guy.

Red!! I'm so glad you're ok. Please keep us posted on how you and the baby are. I'm so glad you didn't get hurt.

red 12-14-2004 04:44 PM

everyone was freaked out except me. I knew the kid was okay. I had no bleeding, leakage or anything.

I feel really bad for my coworker.
He's really beating himself up over this.

Avalon 12-14-2004 04:46 PM

Just happy to hear you and the baby are fine :)

sparticle 12-14-2004 04:55 PM

Thank God you're all right. Wow.

And I bet your coworker DOES feel awful. I can't imagine.

So grateful you are all right.

lapietra 12-14-2004 06:29 PM

OMG. wow. It's amazing how quickly things happen...
Please be careful, e.

I'm glad I didn't find out when I opened this thread that a) you got injured in a car crash and b) you went crazy from the lack of margaritas in your life and went on a bender... :p

yikes!!!

Glad you and baby are OK Red.
I feel for you co-worker. Poor guy.

red 12-14-2004 08:49 PM

nobody is seeing my hoo-hah except medical personnel and my husband.

Being in the hospital hooked up to monitors made me realize it's not that far away. I'm kinda panicked at work trying to tie up all my projects. I may deliver early and that would suck.

bealeblues 12-14-2004 08:59 PM

if he's beating himself up over this now red, just wait until he sees the lawsuit i just filed against him on your behalf....

Zaftig 12-14-2004 09:02 PM

Red, you had my heart in my throat as I was reading your initial post. I am so relieved that everything is ok. You have a durable belly! *whew* I'm sure you're getting enough of this but take it easy! You may not go on to bigger and better things like the Monster Truck Demolition!

priceyfatprude 12-15-2004 03:14 AM

I'm glad to hear you are both ok. :) I, too, thought maybe you'd ordered a pitcher of mmmmmmmmargaritas.

Are you going to do any contests with us like guess the name or guess the due date like funky & surf did?

zenbabe 12-15-2004 03:18 AM

Glad you are ok red! The same thing happened to my old boss, she was at 7 months and had been trying to get pregnant for 3 years before she finally got knocked up! We were all so scared for her. I saw them putting her on a stretcher on the way to work one day. Everything was fine, babies are so resilient!!!

we are going to have to start a delivery date pool soon!!

My coworker still feels awful. I am unable to convince him that everything really is ok. Poor guy.

When I was about 6 or 7months along with Wee Witchie, I went to the ER with some disturbing symptoms. The docs suspected I had placenta previa (not a good thing, but not life-threatening, just tricky) Whole routine -- ER, monitors, etc. etc. Then the docs told me to go home and be on bedrest. AAAAAGH!

I was not happy. I was also nauseated from all the excitement, it was a hot day, etc. I went to bed as soon as we got home.

Mr. Spart asked if he could bring me anything. "Just maybe some broth, some crackers," I said.

I waited. I waited. I really didn't care about the food; I just wanted to give him something to do so he'd feel useful.

I heard the car start. Huh?

I heard the car return. I heard grocery bags rattling.

Another hour passed. I couldn't sleep, and I idly wondered what Mr. Spart was doing and if he had forgotten my crackers. It smelled like he was already making dinner for himself and my little boy. Fine, I thought, just so everyone's fed. I tried to sleep.

I heard footsteps on the stairs and -- dishes rattling?

In walked Mr. Spart with a huge party tray. Barbecued chicken. Broccoli with cheese sauce. Five kinds of crackers. A bowl of alphabet soup. Cake. Bread and butter. Salad.

Oh, my god. Even the thought of broth had been making me queasy.

And the coup de grace? An entire, uncut casaba melon, looking to weigh about seven pounds.

"Look at this! They were only five dollars at the store! I bought three!"

You never saw anyone recover so fast in your life. "Bed rest", my ass! I was up and around so fast next day you'd have thought there was Lourdes water in the alphabet soup.

And everything turned out fine. Except for Mr. Spart. He was frightened by a casaba melon shortly before childbirth and hasn't been the same since.

aish, scary. glad the baby's fine.
